I would have a Komodo Dragon/Gecko/Crocodile/Cobra/Bat/Electric Eel/Great White Shark cross. It would have the body of the Komodo Dragon, including the tail( the tail would prehensile ) and the arms and legs, the tail, back spikes (but much larger and longer), hands, armor plating, and overall head design of the Crocodile, the frill and fangs of the Cobra, the wings of the Bat. The electric and aquatic ability of the Electric Eel, the row design of the teeth of the Great White, and the tongue and climbing ability of the Gecko.It would be able to send out electric bolts and spit posoin and also inject you with it if it bites you and it's tongue could shoot out like Zedus's in Gamera: The Brave. It would genetic cross species made by scientists to fight Godzilla, but it would turn against the humans and fight both the humans and Godzilla.
i will do my best, but i haven't got much influence on twitter and facebook, the best i can do is get my family and relatives to watch it. i will probably watch it 5 times before i get bored and i am getting the (if there is one) special/collector edition of this movie on blu ray.
@ Madison: your first post is right on the money; the cheesiness/corniness of the old movies has to be expunged for this reboot to succeed...
I posted something similar to what you did awhile back, and had a Tokusatsu fan flame all over me for it...
@Akagi,
I don't agree that Godzilla vs. Hedorah was very serious, but I'll agree with fairly dark. But even then the wonky music, the enemy monster design, the way some things happen. I agree with the parodying with Godzilla's flight, but I think that's also evident in some other places: The fish heads, the cat surviving Hedorah's sludge, the cartoons...etc... I love the style of that film and I'm glad it was made, but I'm also happy we didn't get a whole slew of pretentious arthouse, hippy-zillas. That said I would've loved to have seen Banno's Godzilla vs. Hedorah 2 just for kicks-- though I feel most of that movie would've been stock footage.
I almost agree, but I feel all the main character's family should not make it instead, and the main character is the only one that lives. There needs to be a litle bit of hope, but that in itself is a dark tragic ending anyway. Kinda like how godzilla 2000 ended, godzilla just fucked shit up in the end.
That godzilla debris scene though, if it were an ending shot then your whole idea would pretty much work. Queue scene before that shot, it's all the main character's deaths at the hands of Godzilla, next shot is Godzilla destroying the rest of San Fran, then queue the debris scene (maybe oppenheimers quote? but not too sure it will fit film ise, it fit perfect trailer wise though) and end with black. It's a dark ending yet opened, but still it could work as a single film that way too, so best of both worlds
but again, id prefer where the main character is the only one left, but i liked your explanation OP
Alright, most of the movies I've helped market have given a 50% cut to theaters, even the higher profile ones, but I've not been a part of something as big as Godzilla or Transformers, etc... So I could be misinformed due to the various films I've been a part of.
Still, I imagine Godzilla will have to double its budget in order to be profitable for this round since three studios are involved.
Pacific Rim just barely made over double its budget. So the profit margin for that film was small from the $411 million worldwide draw. I don't think it would be out of line to believe Godzilla will do slightly better due to name recognition. If the budget really is $160 I'll be holding my breath for celebration once its made well over $320 million world wide. We'll see.
On a slightly differen't topic I do wonder if Japan will be a significant player in Godzilla's boxoffice. The country is pretty much done with tokustatsu and daikiaju. Pacific Rim was not a hit over there either, but it was able to pull $14.5 million into the pool. I'm actually hoping that this will be released in China more as they tend to make the biggest difference. Yet, I have not clue whether or not Godzilla is one of the North American movies selected to run in China this year.
you make a fair point and have convinced me slightly, sorry for being aggresive i thought you were saying that jpan is the big one in the international box office and other international audiences were small, and took offence because i am from the uk.
@HERO PREASE haha you made a funny.
I mean, I just respectfully disagree.
If you look at the Box Office results of most Godzilla films in the Millenium Series, they almost all took in $10-$20 million. And that's only looking at the films JUST released in Japan theatrically.
Having been on a 10 year hiatus, and being done with big budget American effects, that's where I'm guessing the Japanese $30 million number, which is a completely reasonable guess.
Assuming Godzilla pulls in $200-$300 million TOTAL from the International market (which is also reasonable to assume) the Japanese take of that is 10%-15% if Japan's take is $30 mil and you do basic math.
For it it to be around the percentage you're talking about, Godzilla 2014 would need to grab $400-$600 million from the International market alone.That's just niavely optimistic in my opinion. For the most part only the really popular slam dunk films like the Superhero sequels and stuff like the Hobbit pull in those numbers.
I mean, if I can't persuade you, I can't persuade you, but I think if you're looking at this objectively, I think all the numbers I mention here are ballpark accurate. Meaning Japan is a significant share of where this movie is going to make its money.
i would say 4-7%, japan has a high population but compared to the rest of asia (india especially), europe south america and the middle east, it is small and godzilla is known and popular there as well. just because godzilla is very popular in japan doesn't really mean they are going to be 10% of the international box office (10% out of all the countires in the world is too big).
You're right in that TOHO is only taking a cut from Japan.
But I do believe Japan is a SIGNIFICANT portion of the International Box Office.
The film is probably going to be more popular in Japan than in any other market in the world if you're looking at per capita viewership.I mean, there is no way to know for certain, but based on how much previous TOHO productions have made, even when not released in the U.S., I would say Japanese sales are going equal somewhere around the $30 million mark, which could wind up being 10%-15% of the total International take.
Always thought Godzilla fighting another of his species or one VERY similar. Like one that had mutated in a different way not like SpaceGodzilla but think of it as Hensei Godzilla as the original godzilla vs Godzilla 2000, same species different look and powers
I had this idea for an artic creature that resembles a mix between a polar bear and the abomidable swonman but mutated, that can freeze anything it gets close to and is pretty much the opposite of Godzilla. Since Godzilla is week to extreme colds this would be an interesting battleof fire vs ice!!!

@MADISON so toho is going to take the earning from europe, south america, africa and the rest of asia or do you not think they count as part of the international box office, toho is only going to get the cut of the money off the japanese release because that is the ONLY place they will distribute the movie, warner bros is distributing the movie to everywhere else including europe and the rest of asia , so no toho is not taking a significant cut off the international box office.
@GMan2887
I'll open by saying I don't work in the movie industry, and am definitely not an expert. I draw most of these conclusions and statistics from news articles and box office performance reports I've read. So basically, I do apologize if any of this info is wrong, although I am confident that it is correct.
That being said, my understanding is that the 1.5x vs 2x number varies from movie to movie. The 1.5x is much more relevant for big budget blockbuster style movies.
The 1.5x number comes from marketing costs, which are not included when talking about a movie's production budget. For most movies, the amount the studio spends on marketing is about 50% of the production budget. The marketing budget ratio is fairly consistent from film to film.
Theater costs however, vary widely from movie to movie. Big budget blockbusters can usually negotiate huge cuts, like 100%-75% of ticket sales for the first 2-4 weeks. It only goes down to 50% after the movie has made most of it's money. The Phantom Menace for example, negotiated a 100% for 8 weeks or something like that. So the theater cost for blockbusters is marginal. Even then, blockbusters usually have strong merchandise and DVD sales which usually make up for what little theater costs they did have.
As a side note: This is why Theaters charge so much for concessions. They have to make a buck somehow, and it actually isn't on the movies.
Smaller, low budget flicks, that don't have merchandise to sell, usually don't get to negotiate those huge theater cuts. They have take what they can get. So for a $20-$60 million movie, yeah it probably does have to 2x it's production budget to break even, and greater than that to warrant a sequel. While a movie like the Avengers definitely only needed the 1.5x number to break even.
Godzilla 2014 specifically, is likely caught somewhere between this 1.5x and 2x number, as per my analysis on my above post. It has merchandise, and a blockbuster budget. But Toho is taking a significant cut of the International Box Office, and Godzilla has a super competitive release date, so it's Theater Cost is going to be higher than if it released on a weaker weekend.
I hope that clarifies some of my analysis and information.
A giant Snake, like D-War ones
but more realistic...
kyero has right about why they changed, that does seem the best reason, advances in special effects have led to godzilla with a better breath, from a vapour to a beam, to a super beam that could reach above the earths atmoshere
I would like a giant octopus, that looks really drak and scary, something like the thing from Lord of the rings.
And a giant centipede would be cool, too.
I would like an open ending. A bad ending would be okay, too, I hope there will be no happe end.
By the way, the fanart with the light effects is really, really good and creepy. Never saw this before.
A Mantis just done differently than Kamacarus. Mantids are pretty good insects and would be quite a challenge but people are probably turned off by the idea due to Son of Godzilla. A Scorpion would be pretty cool too. And obviously they would be mutated just resemble them in some way.
@Kyero
You're taking things WAY too seriously.
You realize this is Science Fiction, right?
A giant, prehistoric Dunkleosteus, awakened by Godzilla's rampage! With it's enormous maw and quick movements, it will sure give Godzilla a tough fight! :)
@Akagi & Kyero
Can't we just have fun with an idea? We aren't saying there will be a Toho Kaiju in the film.
Calm down.
Godzilla 1985 and vs Destoroyah
I wouldnt want a bad ending.
We cant win, nor can Godzilla.
Godzilla is a lesson displayed as a monstrous catastrophe, but you cant teach a lesson to a dead person. Its about learning. If our main characters die, that would mean there is no hope, and without hope we might as well all just vanish.
At the end of every catastrophe, there is the light of hope and familly. Thats the important thing. Yes, many people will lose each other, but the important isnt what you lost, its what you still have.
No one who have been through such a tragedy will be so careless again. And thats coming from someone who lost a father during a house fire. And while a house fire is no where as bad, all castrophes are just a bigger and widespread version of it.
But is it fair to Godzilla? Absolutely not. Godzilla is a victim yes, but he is a victim without a happy ending. He will NEVER have a happy ending, and thats the point. Doomed to forever be angry and destruction, a pawn of nature.
And that why him returning to the ocean is wonderfull. Its a lesson learned, but he would return to teach us it again if necessary. Its not only about the characters learning, but about the audience learning.
i want a giant vampire bat that feeds off nuclear energy
how about a hybrid, like a reptile-mammal hybrid or maybe a genetic enginnered mammal, we need more mammal monsters.
Some type of mammal. The reptiles, insects, and mechas are getting old. There's a huge array of mammals that could be mutated but the closest thing we've seen in King Caesar who's made of rock.
2. Gipsy Danger
3. Yes, probably Minya...
4. Hulk; Mothra Larvae are too weak
5. Draw
6. Gamera
7. Godzilla 2014; way larger
8. ZILLA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *Sarcasm*
I agree with Kaijujira, we need bold new monsters for Godzilla. That way even veteran fans of Godzilla won't know how the kaiju battle(s) will end.
That remote control Godzilla does look cool, one could make their own little movie with it. However, $1,000--$2,000 is a bit much.
Godzilla vs Space Godzilla, I thought, was also a serious toned film.
Wow, now that's big. The only problem with it is, where would you put it if you owned it? Just the 6" tall NECA Godzilla sounds impressive to own, let alone this one.
Even though Legendary is making the movie this time, Godzilla is still Toho's property, so this new film legitimatly counts as another Toho Godzilla film. Where I'm going with this is that, because, in a way, this is a Toho production film (even though, again, Legendary is making it), wouldn't that technically make the MUTOs officially new Toho kaijus?
let me start off by saying that I would love a dark hopeless ending to this movie. However, I have a feeling it wont happen. It's just too hard to please the general audience with an unhappy ending, and that is where the bulk of the money is going to come from. So, while it would be sweet, I don't know if a studio is going to shell out 150 million dollars on a movie and have a sad ending. That's why most movies with a dark/nihilistic tone tend to be small budget or independant.
I literally made this same post a month back. I think the ending should be the last clip from the trailer except when the secondary echoy roar starts, instead of the Godzilla logo, it's just a black screen until the roar fades out and then "Directed by Gareth Edwards" with no music for the first 5-10 seconds.
