This is super exciting however like Gman, I'm not super thrilled about shelling out more money for another streaming service I probably won't ever use besides for this series. Online streaming used to be convenient but it's slowly turning into prime time cable with clusters of annoying subscription services, each increasing rates year after year. Between Netflix, Amazon Prime, Crave and Disney Plus, I'll have to add Paramount Plus (for the Halo series) and now Apple TV Plus for Monsterverse series? RIP to my bank account. I was hoping Legendary would strike a deal with a larger streaming provider like Amazon or Crave.
Also, I've updated the footer text to reflect the new direction! I will also be working on updates across the site to highlight and focus news and updates on this new series. Keep an eye out for that soon!

Yeah, that would be really cool. It could connect all of the movies while offering new stuff as well.

An anthology series could be pretty interesting.

King of the Monsters started with them stating that Godzilla had been "missing" for the past 5 years, however it was later revealed that Monarch had been monitoring Godzilla the whole time. So Monarch was still keeping information hidden from the public at that point, it's possible that smaller incidents with Godzilla and some other monsters happened without the public knowing about them.

Now that's a good point. This first season could cover incidents involving Godzilla that were covered up following his resurgence in SF.

The incident involving MUTO Prime happed shortly after the events of 2014 but was covered up by Monarch, so it's possible that other incidents involving other monsters were covered up as well.

I mean, the retcons could also give excuses for more film and TV installments to clear this up I guess. Also, this seems to be making our MONARCH show ideas come to light. Also, I think an anthology trilogy would be a great format for this show. It could focus on one crop of characters in the aftermath of '14, KOTM, and GVK. That's for each season. They could also have existing characters that are tied to Godzilla in supporting roles for every season.

Actually in the prequel novel Godzilla Dominion He locked up the other titans.
So if they plan to have other titans show up, I wonder how they’ll do it.

sonictiger,
There's nothing that says other monsters weren't awakened here and there between 2014 and King of the Monsters. Plenty of franchises do retcons these days, I can believe they would do it here. Especially if it's a cost-saving measure. (Less Titans, less effects work, etc.)
SasquaDashGodzilla Minus Zero NewsBREAKING: Legendary announce NEW live action Godzilla Monsterverse TV series!Jan 20, 2022Reply
I like that they're putting some focus on the aftermath of 2014, it's my second favorite movie in the MonsterVerse and it's one of my top 10 favorite Godzilla movies. It will be interesting to see what they do with the story.
Also I think we can officially change this.

sonictigerGodzilla Minus Zero NewsBREAKING: Legendary announce NEW live action Godzilla Monsterverse TV series!Jan 20, 2022Reply
Basically what I'm saying is that most of the Titans were awakened during King of The Monsters, so it could serve as a massive continuity issue unless every Titan featured in the show (Godzilla excluded, since he was active) is completely new.
sonictigerGodzilla Minus Zero NewsBREAKING: Legendary announce NEW live action Godzilla Monsterverse TV series!Jan 20, 2022Reply
Well, I wouldn't be too surprised if the show's first season (if it becomes a longer show) is the only one to serve as a midquel to G14 and KOTM. I can imagine Legendary would want to incorporate some of it's human characters who have gotten better reception than most. Also, it did mention that Titans were showing up besides Godzilla. And they weren't really "awakened" until KOTM so while it would make sense, the midquel idea seems unlikely.

What seems complicated about them running together is the fact that they’re both shows, but MV and the anime trilogy happened together

sonictiger,
HinikunaGoji is correct. The current synopsis seems to point toward the story taking place in between Godzilla '14 and King of the Monsters. This is the official synopsis provided by by Apple TV, via SciFi Japan:
"Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking new reality that monsters are real, the series explores one family's journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organization known as Monarch."
The press release only mentions the other movies being a part of the series.

HinikunaGoji, press releases have stated that the show is following up on the events on Godzilla '14, King of The Monsters, and Godzilla Vs. Kong. I'll admit Madison or Mark appearing is a stretch, but they'll at least get a small mention or reference to their current activity.
G.H. (Gman), WB handling the films doesn't seem promising as their incompetence may hurt the MonsterVerse even more if this new show ends up winning over the masses. Also, Skull Island is still happening at Netflix. But I would expect it to come out in 2023 or 2024 while Godzilla: Singular Point season 2 is in development to space out the kaiju projects.
G. H. (Gman)Godzilla Minus Zero NewsBREAKING: Legendary announce NEW live action Godzilla Monsterverse TV series!Jan 20, 2022Reply
The pattern seems to indicate Legendary Pictures' deal with WB only goes as far as films. Legendary Television, on the other hand, seems to operate with different distributors. This new Agents of SHIELD: Monarch Edition and the (supposed) Skull Island anime are both without WB's help.
I suppose this makes sense as Legendary's television output has, so far, aired across four different channels and three different streaming services--None of which are HBOMax.
This doesn't really point to Legendary's partnership with WB expiring. But it does seem to insinuate that their television branch is not part of the same WB deal.
That said, I'm not planning on footing the bill for yet another streaming service.

The fact that it’s reported to be more connected to 14’ makes me doubt the Russell’s will be in it.
I’m interested to see what Tohos side of the contract is. Singular Point Season 2 has already been announced, and because it was successful in Japan.
The fact that it goes to apple now worries me, because Apple+ isn’t like the biggest streaming service, but maybe I don’t know.
I don’t want it to be a situation where a company buys something and it fizzles out.
Is “Son of Kong” cancelled then?

Hopefully without WB, since they have proven to be incompetent at every turn.

Yeah, this seems to hint that Legendary isn't letting HBO Max anywhere near their MonsterVerse streaming projects. WB will still most likely distribute the movies though. Anyways I'm really hyped.
...and Madison Russell (Millie Bobby Brown) better have a supporting role in all of this.

Yeah, that's one of the many problems that I have with the Reiwa series, they pretty much took away Godzilla's character and personality and instead made him feel like nothing more glorified set piece that occasionally moves and shoots his atomic breath. As much as I enjoy Shin Godzilla, at no point does he ever really feel like a living creature, he mostly just feels like a lifeless mass that (to quote the actual film) just moves forward without any real motivation. The closest we get to him feeling alive is when the military drop the bombs on him and he kind of reacts like he's in pain. I get that it's supposed to make him feel like a "force of nature", but it kind of takes away the point of him being a living creature, at that point you might as well replace him with an earthquake or a hurricane. Personally I feel Godzilla is way more interesting when he's an actual character that has a lot of personality as opposed to being a big dumb brute that mindlessly destroys things.

Yeah, I like Shin Godzilla, but his origin and portrayal always felt kind of off to me. He does feels more like Destoroyah or Hedorah, than classic Godzilla, with him "evolving" throughout the film and being able to divide into smaller forms. The fact that he had little to no personality or real motivation also kind of bugs me, although that complaint kind of applies to the rest of the Reiwa series as well.
