I don't think you can go off 1 movie as what the new meta for kaiju are. Personally I think Rodan would be a perfect fit as he as basically the same back story as godzilla. He would fit into this new realistic style better than most of Godzilla;s monsters. He's also a good contrast to godzilla who is is sea based and Rodan being an flying kaiju, he would be a good second movie monster seeing how godzilla would have defend against a speed and air based assault.
I'm against mothra though because a giant moth is both stupid and wouldn't go with the realistic approach

I have an epic name right here guys! Are you ready!?
"GODZILLA 2"
Epic huh? But seriously, it would be hard to give it an extra title, i like the omnious of Godzilla 2. I mean, maybe they could make up a very short title like "Godzilla 2: Deep Rising". Its short, and not TOO corny.

Uhh copy star wars titles of course
2nd: Godzilla Strikes Back
3rd: Return of Godzilla
then they could do prequels
phantom godzilla
attack of godzilla
revenge of godzilla
Can't go wrong with star wars titles

I don't see legendary trying to get rights for Gamera.
While the popularity of these monsters may be somewhat close in Japan(I'm sure Godzilla hold a big lead though) in the US it's a landslide. Godzilla's had theatrical releases in the past in the US, a star on the hollywood sidewalk, and many references in pop culture. I'm not sure if any Gamera movies were released theatrically in the US, and he would just seem like a poor man's godzilla to most people if they came out with the movie any time close to this 1. While it would be cool to finally see that fight most of us have been waiting for ever since we learned about both monsters it won't ever happen, especially by a US company.
The idea that godzilla is supposed to be realistic(I'm using this term loosely) would be even more ridiculous for Gamera who has either been a friend to children, or an atlantis guardian as a backstories in all the movies I'm aware of except the original and is basically a firebreathing, flying, giant turtle. That doesn't really sound like something you could bring into realism, or at least do it very well.
That and Godzilla would win the fight no matter what country the movie is made in because it will be based on popularity and I doubt Gamera's company would let that happen.

Or who PRim or Godzilla actually belong to in reality. My guess is probably Warner Bros.
ReplyBigbyGodzilla 2014 ForumPossible future of Kaiju moviesOct 10, 2013
Legendary's involvement with kaiju movies will be interestingly determined when it gets officially partnered up with Universal (they do a lot of monster and creature flicks so its a sure poss). However, its been Warner bros. co-financing and handling pacific rim and Godzilla with legendary and I'm not sure who is holding sway with Toho.

Which trailer are we talking here, the comic con trailer or the soon-to-be official trailer supposedly due in a few weeks? I already have the comic con trailer (I keep watching it) and I think quite a few people have it now.

I appreciate you guys wanting to see the leaked trailer, but I would ask that these kinds of exchanges take place in Personal Messaging. You posting your email addresses all over the forum, a publicly view-able one I might add, is not a wise thing to do. You're just asking to get spam mail from people reading these boards. We also suggest that you don't post sensitive info in the open for a variety of other concerns.
Just a heads up.

Well after watching every Godzilla and Godzilla Affiliated monster movie from 1954-2004 from Mid April up to midnight May 15th, if there is a midnight showing where I live, you can bet your behind that I will be there for the 3d version and then 3-4 more times the following day in 2d. I will make it obvious that I will be there just for Godzilla by wearing one of my 4 godzilla shirts, and maybe my godzilla slippers XD. Then I will purchase whatever Godzilla related merchandise I can that day before I go broke, and then put money aside to buy the DVD when it comes out. May 16th will truly be a day of Godzilla for me. I already requested May 15th and 16th off back in August. Not that I am prepping and waiting for this movie ;)

Since the director already hinted at a Destroy All Monsters like sequel
Hmmmmm how about
Godzilla: Wrath of the Monsters?
Godzilla: Wars ( named after the trendmasters toy line)
Godzilla: War of the Kaiju

If they base the destruction and aftermath off of the movies Gojira and Gojira 1984 (NOT the Raymond Burr versions) then that will be the best thing they could do for a Godzilla movie. Those 2 movies you really get a feel for the absolute devastation and the human toll.
ReplyGuyvanticGodzilla 2014 ForumHow would you feel about an R rated Godzilla?Oct 9, 2013
Where as I agree that there would be less restrictions with the movie being rated R, with the same fundimental rules as in Gojira and Gojira 1984: Godzilla being this unstoppable nuclear menace, and where ever he goes his victims will end up burned to death, crushed, devoured - possibly by enemy Kaiju, blown to bits or simply die from radiation poisoning we have to take into consideration that potential Godzilla fans will be going to the movie ie: Fathers or uncles taking sons, daughters, nieces, and nephews to see the movie. Too much realism my turn them away from Godzilla.
I would argue that yes the movie can be PG13 that would be good enough. PG13 movies now have the same material rated R movies had 20 almost 30 years ago.
That being said, I will argue we need scenes of the more human element to Kaiju movies which have been lacking from 1954 to 2013. I am talking about the emotional trauma of a monster ramapge or battle. Such as in the original Gojira where you see a mother clutching her 3 children with a fire raging on one side and Godzilla on the other saying they will soon be with their father or the little girl who saw her mother watched her mother die after Godzilla's rampage, to the emotional breakdowns and terror in
Cloverfield, to Mako's memory scene in Pacific Rim. Where you get the feeling that people regardless of who they are, how old they are, are dead or dying.
ReplyunicronicGodzilla 2014 ForumHow would you feel about an R rated Godzilla?Oct 9, 2013
No way should this be an R movie, certainly a PG-13 would give enough scope for some violence.
Certainly the devastation shouldn't be overlooked in the movie but plenty of recent movies with accessible ratings have not shied away from the concept of on screen death.

Spacegodzilla or Gigan.
Spacegodzilla was the only heisei monster godzilla needed help to fight(rodan doesn't count in GvsMGII since he got beaten before godzilla got there)
And Gigan was just a badass being the first monster to make Godzilla bleed and just being ruthless
ReplyDurp004Godzilla ForumWhat is your Fantasy Showdown using the the Godzilla monsters?Oct 9, 2013
Showa Godzilla vs showa rodan. They did this a little in ghidorah the 3 headed monster, and it seemed pretty even.
I'd also like Spacegodzilla vs mechagodzilla. Spacegodzilla would prob win but it'd be a good fight
ReplyInstinctiveGiganGodzilla 2014 ForumGodzilla vs. Cloverfield MonsterOct 9, 2013
The creature died, they called a nuke strike and they killed it. You can hear the creature dying in the background, in addition the missile strike at the end did hurt it since you can clearly see the creature being hurt while the missiles are firing at him. Godzilla's atomic breath would destroy it definitely if a nuke can. Also I doubt the creature can take hits from the behemoth that is Godzilla, I mean remember he has super strength even for a monster his size. He's thrown kaiju 3x his size into the sky for pete's sake. Clover would get Godzilla pissed at best, which in itself is unwise.
ReplyDurp004Godzilla 2014 ForumHow would you feel about an R rated Godzilla?Oct 9, 2013
No. If you really look at how graphic PG- 13 movies can get there wouldn't be any need to make it R without going over the top. PG 13 movies can get pretty graphic in terms of blood. Kaiju blood and monster blood isn't viewed on exactly the same terms of humans and real animal's blood so the monsters could really pretty much rip eachother apart and it could still get a PG13 rating.
The human aspect is basically just the ones the survive the destruction and hollywood has no problem messing up people pretty bad off screen and just showing the aftermath in a PG13; it's when they show them getting killed or cut up that they boost the rating to R usually.

About the Monster Island movie, I actually believe it to be impractical and kinda silly. 1. Godzilla is HUGE in this new movie, an the other kaiju aren't gonna be too small either. So where the heck are they gonna find an island big enough, they would need a continent to make sense haha. 2. It sounds like dead or alive but with kaiju, i get the cool coliseum-esque carnage of kaiju's all on this island fighting but come on. 3. How would the humans fit into it? We need humans for a narrative otherwise it will be nat geo and ufc with kaiju haha
ReplyBCrockett94Godzilla 2014 ForumDeath toll?Oct 9, 2013
The cities he's destroying have huge amounts of people. Realistically, I'd say that Godzilla and the other kaiju will leave hundreds of thousands dead or dying.
ReplyBCrockett94Godzilla 2014 ForumHow would you feel about an R rated Godzilla?Oct 9, 2013
Oh, god no, I'd like a realistic amount of blood and gore, not a Tarentino film. xD
ReplyBigbyGodzilla 2014 ForumDeath toll?Oct 9, 2013
I can actually see the other Kaiju killing us off more than Godzilla, even though I'm sure he'll dish out his own fair share of a death tally chart. Yeh, several thousand at least, either way it will be catastrophic.
ReplyBCrockett94Godzilla 2014 ForumWhat would you name the Godzilla 2014 sequal?Oct 9, 2013
I really don't like the monster island idea he's got. I know that some fans will agree, and probably most will disagree. But it all depends on content of the movie.
Godzilla2
Plain and simple title, can't go wrong with that. xD
Godzilla: Island of Monsters
Godzilla: Land of Beasts
Those are what I'd probably call the movies of Monster Island
Godzilla x Deathla or Godzilla: Deathla or Deathla
Now this one is a bit self explanatory. I feel that Legendary owes Banno for bringing them Godzilla. As such, a Deathla movie is in order. Hell, I'd work with just it being titled Deathla, and include Godzilla.
Godzilla: The Second Event
This one's a bit vague, I like it. The second of event of the kaiju catastrophe. It leaves with the possibility of keeping the horror, but adding a bit more science fiction as well.
Godzilla: Son of Godzilla
LMAO JUST KIDDING, DAMN!

I wouldn't have a clue what to call it to be honest, would have to see the first one to gauge the direction of a sequel to get the jist of a title.
ReplyBigbyGodzilla 2014 ForumHow would you feel about an R rated Godzilla?Oct 9, 2013
The question is does it need to show people all bloody and losing limbs (although that might still be shown to a lesser extent)? Same goes for Godzilla and the Kaiju, while I would really like to see some darn vicious (Edwards said go realistic) so I want the fights to be pretty nasty, and while blood may be shown, i don't expect horror movie gushes. I dunno, in scare terms I can imagine it could be pretty jumpy and harrowing as an R rated film, but I think it might have that in it, just not to such a R rating extent. To be fair I actually thought a film like Prometheus was pretty tame on scares and gore considering the rating, and I could see a Godzilla movie being far nastier. But in my own opinion, I don't think it needs the rating bump up, I think it will be a dark, destructive film without the need of extra scariness or blood. All I would want from a mature sense is the tone and attitude of the film and maybe some brutal kaiju fights (I'm talking body parts getting lopped off) but still a pg-13
ReplyBCrockett94Godzilla 2014 ForumNumber of Kaiju in G-2014Oct 9, 2013
Honestly, I think there's going to be two "main" ones. One of them is going to be a queen of some insect creatures, and those insect creatures sort of help us give a damn about the human characters.
