Well let's put it this way; Legendary spent from pre-production to mid-summer on the design of Godzilla himself to get to the design we see in the latest trailer, and after the abomination that was Zilla I reckon they wanna get the titular Kaiju right before even considering tampering with any other fan favorites. If any other classic Toho beasties were to make an appearance at all it wouldn't be 'til a sequel when they see how this movie does.

master_of_magnetism1993Godzilla 2014 ForumHow would you like to see the new "Godzilla" series play out?

I don't think it's necessary to create a slew of new monsters in this reboot series, although it'd be nice to see at least one new really good one. Most of the monsters from the past can be easily adapted to be more realistic, especially if they all fall in line with the supposed "living fossil" theory that supposedly Godzilla is. All I ask is that they keep aliens out of it. Now, don't get me wrong, I LOVE extraterrestials. Half of my fan-stories I've thought up involve them somehow. But aliens in Godzilla just never felt right to me. It broke the consistency of the monster's origins. I mean, I guess you can explain it, but is it really necessary. It would just make the plot more convoluted than it may already be and could break the pacing entirely. It's like in "X-Men" how they reduced ALL of the super-powered beings origins to mutation. No goddesses or magic gems. It kept it all consistent and helped keep the plot moving. That's not to say that I don't enjoy those things in the comics. But in a movie, you've got two, maybe three hours to tell your story, and only a handful of movies. So, you've got to make some sacrifices for it to be as effective as possible.

You can't blame people for their desire to see some classic characters from the Toho universe in the new Legendary series. It's like when we go to the theater to see any superhero film and it's become common for teasers to show up in the end credits. It gets fans excited and talking about the next film. If you're a fan of Spider-Man for instance, you watch for clues that point to who the next villain will be. Just like Spider-Man has his gallery of supporting characters and villains, Godzilla has his. I'm not saying that I agree or disagree with whether other Toho monsters should be in the new series, but I can understand why many fans have a desire to see it happen. And something tells me that if Godzilla 2014 does really well financially and critically, Toho will consider giving permission for the use of other Toho monsters.

Ok. And I don't wanna just see these monsters destroying major cities to create an apocalyptic tone. As the series goes on, show how they irradiate the wasteland and essentially poison the Earth unintentionally. Show how people get sick and die from the radiation they leave behind and how lands become infertile even long after they have left it. And as the series goes on, more and more monsters just keep appearing, like an endless cycle. Make it out to be like a reverse-Darwinism message. These monsters eventually wipe out humanity, but since they are unnatural mutations, they will eventually die out themselves since there is no way the planet can sustain them. Just make the audience lose all hope. It's sad to say that the only film that ever effectively conveyed a tone of "no hope" was the ending to "Terminator 3". It's time we get a true apocalypse film (series) to do that. And get some awesome kaiju action out of it.

I highly, highly doubt there is any truth to the rating on that website... And what? This is like the 20th thread about this movie's rating? This couldn't have gone in one of those?

godzilla3580Godzilla 2014 ForumHow would you like to see the new "Godzilla" series play out?

I have always thought this is exactly how a movie series like this should end. These giant monster movies shouldn't be about "humanity can find a way" but that humanity has no hope. We should see all the sadness and think, how can this ever end? We shouldn't be sitting in the theater knowing that everything is going to be okay. This should give you an apocalypse feeling. Genius Ideas! This is the Godzilla movie I have been waiting for my whole life.

And no, I don't think this conversation has been done as long as i've been on this site haha.

If it is R, then that concerns me. I don't think Godzilla movies should have an R rating. I don't know what could be in it that would make it R. If there's lots of blood and gore then that just seems off for a Godzilla movie.

Can they just use Ligeti's score? Like all of it? And not alter it like that hack Kubrick did? Lux Aeterna and Atmospheres' terrifyingly surreal sound would be wonderfully fitting to the film, I think.

STOP. This is NOT the place for spoilers. This is a thread about upcoming action figures for the movie, not a place for you to dump leaked information from the movie's call sheet.

I've heard that the info has been floating out there for a while, but some of us have been actively avoiding it.

If y'all want to make a new thread about the call sheet and the spoilers within, then please feel free to do so. Such talk should NOT ninja their way into off topics, however.

I would love to see some of the old Toho monters, but I honestly don't think it is going to happen. It would probably cost them a ton more money to use them, which, like DURATOK said, would be more expenive than it's worth. The only way I think they would use another Toho monster would be to put one in the very last movie (for the fans of course), and make absolutely sure it would work in the universe.

Gojira SenpaiGodzilla 2014 ForumGodzilla vs Smaug

Tolkien fans such as I have been calculating the exact measurements of Smaug since Part 1 released last year; trust me, if we're talking 2014 Godzilla, there'd be no contest. The only thing Smaug has that could help against Godzilla is his cunning and intelligence, but size alone makes it quick loss in his favor. Funny though, I posted about this question on Tumblr the other day and get the same responses, haha.

I definitely agree that the more 'realistic' Toho kaiju like Anguirus and Rodan would fit well into the new Godzilla universe, but securing the rights to such characters would be more expensive than it's worth. Most people don't know or care about Godzilla's pals. Paying the royalties to get them in the film just wouldn't be financially a wise decision.

I don't think that specific sheet mentioned anything that happened after, people don't even know when it takes place in the film. Heck, it could be towards the beginning, they could use it thinking it'll stop him, but they pull a Kingdom of Monsters and it further mutates him, giving him atomic breath. Who knows?

G. H. (Gman)Godzilla 2014 ForumAm I really the only one?

I think it depends on what monsters are used. Mutations that echo the "real creature" scenerio in the 1950s Toho movies might work: Rodan, Varan, Anguirus... But Mecha-Godzilla? Gigan? I don't think so. Even King Ghidorah, as much as I'd love to see him, probably wouldn't mesh well...

@Kyero

Oh, no, I completely agree. The notion that something that's hit with a nuclear bomb becomes one is absent minded, but so is the idea that anything that gets exposed by a nuclear bomb becomes a freak accident.

With that said, his logic makes just as much sense as anything else in the Godzilla series. It doesn't, however, seem to jive with what's being presented in the new movie.

KaijuKritic, you also make an excellent point outside of the literal stance. The original film and GMK, in particular, made some artistic choices to metaphorically link Godzilla to the bomb. (Wide shots of Tokyo in flames/ashes in Godzilla, the mushroom cloud in GMK.) It's part of what makes those two movies so wonderful. The idea that Godzilla is a nuclear bomb in slow motion was an original intent. While I'm ok with them touching on that in the new movie, I also want them to tackle some other things that have been ignored or untouched throughout the series.

@Kyero  I think you're missing the point of Valkorin's post.

Scientifically, you're right.  Being exposed to a nuclear blast does not turn anything into a nuke.  That is ridiculous.  But Godzilla is not science, it's a story.  Godzilla actually is a nuke.

I know, he looks nothing like a nuclear warhead.  But that's not the point.  Godzilla has always symbolized the pure destructive force nuclear weapons have.  His atomic breath isn't some random power the writers decided to give him, it's a physical representation of this relationship.  Toho stresses this all the time, like in GMK.  The first time we see him use his atomic breath, he creates a mushroom cloud.  I hate that scene, but it shows Godzilla's direct connection to Nuclear weapons.

You can't look at Godzilla scientifically.  His existance makes no logical sense.  It's all about the story and the meaning behind it.  Godzilla is a direct representation of the destruction a nuke can cause.  He actually is a nuclear weapon, both figuratively and literally.  Don't call people out on making those connections.  You're missing the point if you do.

His point isn't that Godzilla's atomic breath is going to be exactly as powerful as a nuclear weapon in one, single, shot.  That is again ridiculous.  But he is suggesting that if they plan on more realistically mirroring a nuke's power, then Godzilla's atomic breath will be that much stronger.  Not on par with a nuke in one blow, but certainly with similar destruction.

esnkdGodzilla Fan Works ForumWhat do you think the new MechaGodzilla will look like

wwo that was insightful, i love it, we cant destroy him but maybe we can make something that can push him back into the ocean, now finally someone has put that thought into a way that can be accepted by everybody, as for mechagodzilla being in a movie, why not. make a giant robot just like in the original more or less and just make him look for realistic without taking away from the orginal concept to much. take from campy and make it better that is all, dont remove or destroy our or the fans idea of what would be cool or not. I am really curious on how they will rework the Flying creatures, like Ghidora and Rhodan.

It's because Godzilla fans like to hold their favorite monsters close to them, and I understand, I would LOVE to see some classic Toho monsters in this movie, but its not going to happen. Fans like to imagine how the movie would be with Toho monsters in it. It would be a nice treat.
