MemberMothra LarvaeDec-18-2013 11:31 PMhey all, I am from the blade runner forum but a few hours ago I had this question in my mind that I wanted to ask and so I decided to create a thread about a topic/question I have.
Since the recent Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug movie just got released, I was able to watch at least 10-15 minutes of Smaug footage who is that giant kick ass dragon BUT after watching the two godzilla trailers (even the comic con leaked trailer in beautiful quality, not blurry) several times, I started to think about the differences betwen Smaug and Godzilla
Now, who do YOU think is bigger? Smaug or Godzilla?
Also for fun and giggles, who do you think would win in a Smaug vs Godzilla battle?
Anyways, that's about it but I am hoping there is some diehard/expert Godzilla fans in this community that could give me and others some answers behind the Smaug and Godzilla size. I would love to read what you have to say about it, what yer theory is if thre is one or who would win in a fight or maybe you just only want to talk about the size differences between Smaug & Godzilla.
Whatever it is, I am interesting in reading what you have to type! I think it's kind of fun and interesting to think about this since we got two giant epic monsters that would be fun to watch if they were both to cross paths lol
So what do you think?
thank for reading! cheers!

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-19-2013 1:08 AMRead the book and saw the movie, Smaug is awesome but doesn't stand a chance. Godzilla wins.

GODZILLA HIMSELF
MemberMothra LarvaeDec-19-2013 1:54 AMhaha. that is a hilarious question. seriously though, even a black hole gun couldn't stop godzilla, smaug wouldn't stand a chance. think of it as a t.rex vs a komodo, the komod is pretty cool, and its tough, but its nothing to the t.rex. besides, smaug can't compare with king ghidorah.
smaug is pretty cool though.
if you had been asking about the big iguana from tristars godzilla i would route for smaug, i hate that lizard thing.

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-19-2013 2:35 AMAll put it to you this way Godzilla killed an alien that woke up after 60 million years & with all that advance technology & strategy it had to take Godzillas DNA & conquer the world, Godzilla destroyed Orga the very next day & not a scratch was left on him. And then he went about his buisness, to finish destroying Japan. (Just another day at the office for Godzilla) LOL!!!

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-19-2013 9:45 AMSorry to say that Godzilla would win, now if it was the 1998 Zilla then we might have a different battle. I have heard of, in a book who's story is well before "The Hobbit" of Ancalagon the Black; a mountain sized Dragon! However, I see Smaug as the better dragon for he was smart enough to lay on his hoard for centuries, forming a diamond coat to protect the vulnerable underbelly. However, Ancalagon would have bigger muscles and hotter fire power than Smaug. Now I haven't seen, nor care to, the Desolation of Smaug movie because they got his look all wrong. Here is Tolkien's original Smaug drawing when asked what he looked like
Here is a fan creation, can't remember who, of a baby Smaug I found...
...and here is a fan's (not mine) re-creation of Tolkien's depiction of Smaug (which is what I had hoped the movie version would have, and not a "weak wyvern")

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-19-2013 12:24 PMgodzilla but mostly because i assume he would throw smaug in the air like kaiser ghidorah and super heat ray him and boom. then he kills the goblin and orcs but then he go back to the ocean

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-19-2013 6:25 PMTolkien fans such as I have been calculating the exact measurements of Smaug since Part 1 released last year; trust me, if we're talking 2014 Godzilla, there'd be no contest. The only thing Smaug has that could help against Godzilla is his cunning and intelligence, but size alone makes it quick loss in his favor. Funny though, I posted about this question on Tumblr the other day and get the same responses, haha.

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-06-2014 5:39 AMThe comparison to sizes is a bit to far to be considered fair. Smaug would be a fly to Godzilla. I always thought it funny that they considered him a dinosaur in a lot of those old movies. He was way to big to ba a dinosaur. Even the big dinosaur in the third Jurassic Park would have been a bug to be squashed by Godzilla. All you can say about Godzilla is that he was a freak of nature created by radiation fall out, and nothing to do with fossils or dinosaurs or anything from the prehistoric age. Even the original King Kong was about a third of his size, although they made him bigger for that one movie, but if you see the original 1930's movie and the new one by Peter Jackson. He is about one third the size of Godzilla.

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-06-2014 11:34 AMI think you all are underestimating Smaug's size, or overestimating Godzilla's size. In the movie, he seems to be about 150 feet long, which is just about the same size as the original Godzilla and several Millenium incarnations. He'd still be curbstomped by Godzilla, but not because of size, like everyone's been saying, but because of their abilities:
Smaug's Abilities:
-Ordinary fire breath.
-Immunity to Medieval conventional weapons (e.g. swords and arrows).
-Flight.
Godzilla's Abilities:
-Thermonuclear fire breath.
-Immunity to modern conventional weapons (e.g. tanks and missiles) and alien/futuristic weapons (e.g. lasers and), and, in some incarnations, things like nukes, meteors, and even black holes.
-Wolverine-like regeneration.
