@Linkzilla: Thanks! No apology necessary, you're stating your opinion, as we all are...

I still maintain that people would definitely know that oxygen removed from water =/= disintegration; it's very basic...H2O...remove O....

On the other hand, the basic origin story should remain intact. I mean, why change something that works?

LinkzillaGodzilla 2014 ForumWhat can kill Godzilla? Honest question.

@GMAN2887 "...or some people just take the heart thing too literally and have no concept of thematic symbolism. But hey, I guess everyone feels like they need an explaination for everything."

Okay, so if showing his still beating heart didn't mean he's going to come back, what does it mean? And if he can't regenerate, how did he come back from being supposedly dissolved by the Oxygen Destroyer if he didn't grow back from a few surviving cells? I'm pretty sure GMK Godzilla just has very slow regeneration, so that he can be defeated for a while, but he will always come back.

I also recall Showa Godzilla recovering from some pretty nasty wounds, including having his hand skeletonized, in just a few minutes.

I am still voting for El Gusano Gigante because I want Zilla's ass to get his butt kick by Godzilla TWICE in a row during the MUTO wars.

GoGoGodzilla65Godzilla ForumWhat Made You a Godzilla Fan?

I was a kid about 5 or 6, I was playing outside when my dad called me in the house, I thought I was in trouble or something.  He directed me to the TV and said "there's a movie on for you!"  On the TV was a little boy playing with a gadget, using his imagination, dialing in to some place called "monster land" and suddenly the boy was there.  Giant insects, bully monsters, baby Godzilla (as I came to call him), and of course, the star of them all, Big G himself. From that point on, I was hooked.  Over the years, I came to dismiss Godzilla's Revenge as a series "filler" with all the stock footage and such and as I said in another post, I dont much care for the cuddly kid friendly Godzilla in this flick.  But I was a small kid then and I related to the boy in the film.  At that age it was magic.

Thank you for once again proving Kyero wrong, Master! Kyeriro acts like he is the only one who has read Gareth Edwards interview. By saying "just a bit" taller than any other Godzilla he was obviously being vague. Kyero is apparently so dead set on Godzilla being short that he can't see the proof in front of his face. And no, Kyero, Godzilla is close to the top of the 555 building and he is almost as tall as it. These so called "camera angles" you keep talking about only prove you wrong. Unless the studio puts out an actual size out that says he is around 120-140 meters, then you are wrong! So shut up and quit wishing for Godzilla to be short!

@ZODGILLA I apologize, I thought that by "more sophisticated," you meant more intelligent, not more knowledgeable, which they definitely are. However, I still say that the average moviegoer wouldn't know what would happen if you removed oxygen from water- being mutated by radiation may be out, but I think they'd still be willing to accept that. Speaking of which I wonder if they're going to keep the same origin story for Godzilla?

Also, am I the only one who's noticed the link posted by Sontzu claiming to be Godzilla 2014 on torrent? I'm assuming it's either a virus or a shock site, so why hasn't it been removed by now?

Guys, being part of a mood piece teaser does not make its appearance in the movie impossible. They can always alter it slightly. In fact, all of the evidence seems to line up perfectly pointing to this thing as the 8-legged muto.

i think both sides of this argument are making good points and a lot what you are saying is true but neither of you are right. audiences are more sophisticated today than they were in 54, but that doesnt mean its common knowledge to know what would happen if you remove oxygen from water. that being said, i really doubt the oxygen destroyer will be in this film. why cause so much more death to kill off godzilla when you can just keep him alive and hope a sequel in greenlit.

@Linkzilla and Dinoboy22: I gotta disagree with you guys on the audience mentality thing. You don't have to be a science fan to know that removing oxygen from water won't destroy anything; that's grade-school science...

Yes, moviegoers ARE alot more knowledgable now than in the 1950s. Take a look at some of the criticisms of modern scifi movies compared to what filmmakers could get past audiences in the 50s...

If there is an oxygen destroyer in this movie, it would asphyxiate Godzilla, as opposed to disintegrating him, which would be alot more plausible...

We now live in a much more tech-savvy society. In a day and age when kids can do computer programming and people walk around with a phone that's actually a mini PC in their pockets, the general public isn't nearly as 'sci-gullible' as in the past. Even the idea that radioactivity can mutate a living organism into something monstrous is laughed at nowadays, whereas in past decades, people bought into it easily...

That sounds amazing! But why would the government want to create ANOTHER MONSTER. I know it would be for fighting G, but the monster will obviously backfire. It already happened in Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla, when MechaGodzilla went beserk! This is my take on governments in Godzilla movies: "HURR WE MAKE MORE MONSTERS DURR". But, I really love your idea!

No. Different series. Then it might as well be the cloverfield monster.

Legendary wants for people to forget the other shitty movie and its shitty follow up cartoon. Its an unused monster, probably a MUTO prototype.

master_of_magnetism1993Godzilla 2014 Forum2014 Godzilla's height? Again?

And don't ask, "Then why can't we see him in the wide-shot of the skyline?". It's as simple as there being a very real difference between an unfinished visual effect and completely re-designing one. And I know that Godzilla's size has always been exaggerated. But that was always in the posters; the artwork. But here, it's the trailer with, what most certainly seems to be footage from the actual film that they worked hard on. So, until there's a definitive size, for now, I believe he is no smaller than 600 feet. There's simply no proof I've seen so far that points towards him being any smaller.

And I KNOW what Gareth Edwards said. I've been following this project like a hawk ever since it's announcement 3 years ago. But you must keep in mind that Edwards wants to both respect the Japanese films while still creating something terrifying, a world-ending calamity. And I can only imagine that Godzilla will be virtually impervious to traditional military weaponry and in order to do that realistically, I think he'd need to be significantly bigger than any other rendition we've seen in the past. That or they explain that the radiation concentration on him is so powerful it destroys any projectiles coming near him (is that even possible?). In which case the soldiers would be wearing heavy-duty hazmat suits ANYWHERE Godzilla has been. That or Godzilla is 400 tall and the military is portrayed as a clog of incompetent, jingoistic morons who just shoot without thinking. Either way, both scenarios would break the illusion of realism and harm the film substantially from being great. Or the military CAN defeat Godzilla on their own with traditional weapons, in which case Edwards completely disregards one of the defining traits of the monster.

And perhaps Edwards wasn't thinking of the military or conventional means of defense when coming up with his size. Maybe he was considering what other kinds of monsters he would be fighting in terms of "what you can do". Since Dr. Serizawa is in this film, we can assume he has developed some kind of weapon that can kill Godzilla, regardless of his size.

And, to be blunt, I also simply don't think that height between 600-800 feet is that ridiculous. It's certainly more sensible than practically every Godzilla film ever made after the first one.

master_of_magnetism1993Godzilla 2014 Forum2014 Godzilla's height? Again?

So are you suggesting that Godzilla's height was amped up just for the trailer? We may not have an exact camera angle or distance as to how far away he is from the 555 building, but if you look at the last frame of that scene in the trailer, it looks pretty damn close to me. If he was within the 400 foot range, the soldier would've lost his line of sight on him long before getting near the roof of the building. And if you say it's because he's a couple blocks away, than that would only suggest that he is LARGER than the building at the end of that scene. So, unless you're suggesting his size was over-exaggerated for the trailer alone, needlessly copying and bring back memories of the the 1998 remake they want us to forget so much, he most certainly larger than 500 feet. You don't need to be an expert at geometry to see that.

no,

1. this has nothing to do with zilla, it is a GODZILLA reboot.

2. it is clearly reptilian, it has hands and claws and a reptilian tail, i realy don,t get why everyone says its like a centipede

3. that monster was only part of a proof of concept teaser, nothing more. it will not be in the movie anyway.

4. if they are going to base any new monsters off of old ones at all, its going to be toho monsters like destroyah, rodan,  battra, etc.
