MemberMothra LarvaeDec-20-2013 10:32 AMI'm not sure if this has been pointed out or not but anyway...
There has been recent discovery of a "damaged" Godzilla from one of the toy preorder pages and I had a thought.
In the trailer there is a clip where a bomb is being lowered down by a group of soldiers, perhaps this is going to be used against Godzilla and sinse he is the tallest Godzilla yet, he should be hard to budge and may even survive the blast, probably leaving a pretty devastating look for Godzilla. So maybe thats why there is a damaged Godzilla. But then again it could just be the rival monsters giving a good beating.
Do you think this could be possible?

King Godzilla24.7
MemberMothra LarvaeDec-20-2013 12:45 PMMaybe, but Godzilla never really get's hurt to that extent. He has regenerator G-1 in his DNA wich make him heal at a remarkable rate, making him indistructible.

Duratok
MemberMothra LarvaeDec-20-2013 12:49 PMYou guys need to keep in mind that this isn't the old Godzilla universe. The director said that he wanted this Godzilla to be believable. That might include it not being indestructible.

Daikaiju Danielle
MemberMothra LarvaeDec-20-2013 1:11 PMI agree with Duratok; this is a reboot. So this Goji is going to be different, yet similar to the past Godzilla's. He may not have Regenerator G1, but he is going to be very strong, and tough!

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-20-2013 1:13 PMit would be a bit dumb to try and make godzilla belivable, it just doesn't work. whats smarter, and what i thinck they are doing, would be to make the human reaction and response realistic.

Community ExecutiveMemberMothra LarvaeDec-20-2013 2:21 PMMaybe Godzilla needs more time to regenerate in this movie but also that could make it stronger; so is a curious and good question.
@Dr.Schrodinger; I would to know more about that ¨damaged¨ godzilla toys please.
The world will spin well past our last breath, but I will always care about you

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-20-2013 2:30 PM@RR44 I've been a Godzilla addict since tiem began! But you do have a good theory but even though you said weapons in a well placed spot would be able to kill Godzilla realistically speaking, we just dont know if it would. Because think about it, he's been mutated by radiation to an extreme extent, his body and inner workings having never ever been seen before ever. So his body might have mutated into such a way where it actually created his body tougher then anything of this earth, perhaps even making his hide and inner organs out of a material so tough and strong that it may be even a new element. So we just wouldn't know if conventional weaponary could infact kill Godzilla at all, because it's never been seen before.

TheGMan123
MemberTitanosaurusDec-20-2013 3:11 PM@GODZILLASYLUM I agree. In order for such a creature of that immense size to be able to exist with its given proportions, without any need of conventional sustenance, and being able to produce exotic effects such as the atomic breath, the normal components that build up a normal biological organism must be replaced and restructured from thousands or even millions of years of nuclear radiation post-death of the original creature. This process would also produce a near perfect energy conversion for the new radioactively-spawned "living fossil", allowing it to utilize a near 100% efficient nuclear energy system, replacing the reliance on food, water, or even air. Afterwards, an immense elemental replacement and density increase at a molecular level of the underlying physical structures like muscles, bones, organs, and skin will create a strengthened structure that has almost no natural limits to physical growth and size of the organism due to the core mutation of the cells themselves to support a nearly unlimited mass with near limitless potential. This is how Godzilla, or really any Kaiju, can exist.

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-20-2013 3:32 PM@**AL** The damaged Godzilla is just a named type of figure included in one of the toy pack-things (I didnt know what to call it) sadly no pictures or any other sort of description. I just thought it was a little odd how they wanted to specifically have a damaged version of Godzilla, making me wonder if the bomb was significant. But it might just be battle damage, like how the company who made the Pacific Rim figures had a normal Gypsy Danger and a battle damaged version.
These points are all really good! I agree with @RR44 , there should definately be a sequel. Definately.

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-20-2013 3:35 PMWell Godzilla is not going too die in the movie just because he,s damged like all the Godzilla,s don,t die in the movies so this One will not i Dont care if it doesn,t have Generator G1 he still Godzilla still strong imprevous too weapons even nukes and also can finish the monster so the second monster should give Godzilla hard time too fight the Mutos would be much more easy duh too there small size and also Godzilla will never die EVER! well maybe that one time he died in destroyah but still G FANS THE KING WILL NEVER DIE!!! GODZILLA HIMSELF
MemberMothra LarvaeDec-20-2013 3:46 PM1. godzilla never stays down
2. in g vs megagirus even a black hole didn't kill him
3. mankind can never rid themselves of godzilla, he can be slowed down and you can get in his way, but in the end, godzilla will outlast whatever hes up against
king of the monsters

GODZILLA HIMSELF
MemberMothra LarvaeDec-20-2013 3:49 PM4. the only way godzilla even could exist is by defying the science altogether
5. godzilla never really stops getting stronger so depending on wich version you refer too(showa heisi and mellenium are all abit different as far as this goes) he has pretty much unlimited potential
6. the only thing that truly holds godzilla back is his intelligence or lack thereof

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-20-2013 4:27 PMIf you watch carefully one the original Godzilla, he clearly seems either annoyed or actually gets some damage from the jet fighter scene were he retreats back into the ocean, now this just could be he was going back anyway or the jets forced him too. Also in Mothra Vs Godzilla the high tension wire scene were they dropped nets on Godzilla and used the towers to electricute him he clearly was getting weaker and they could have killed him but the power drain was to high and over heated the power system. Also he was damaged during his fight with Kiru in Godzilla X Mechagodzilla While this is a reboot he may suffer some kind of damage.

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-20-2013 4:49 PM@KING GODZILLA24.7 - This is a reboot, and Regenerator G-1, as well as all other previously understood Godzilla traits save for his atomic breath are being completely redone and in some cases likely even done away with completely. In a reboot, all previous content and continuity is ignored to create something new. We cannot assume that Regenerator G-1 is going to be in this story. At least not the way we remember it.
@STARHUNTERNEBULAM - There is no evidence or proof that Godzilla was in any way weakened in Mothra vs. Godzilla when the tension wires were dropped on him. There is no evidence or proof that he could have been killed at that time either nor that there was any kind of "power drain" going on at all. i don't know where you got that idea, but your information is horribly inaccurate and based solely on opinion and misobservation.
But in regards to a damaged Godzilla, it's entirely possible that either a well placed weapon shot or one of the other MUTO monsters could damage him. Godzilla may be highly resilient, but he's always still been a mortal creature capable of dying.

The-True-Batman
MemberMothra LarvaeDec-20-2013 7:14 PMGodzilla can take damage, but I can also say without a doubt that this Godzilla will be just as invincible as the Toho Godzilla. Gareth himself said that Godzilla is supposed to be an indestructible force of nature. Can you kill a hurricane? Nope. Godzilla could be blown to bits (GMK) and he would still survive. If this is staying true to Godzilla's character, then we won't be able to rid ourselves of Godzilla unless we have an oxygen destroyer, and if you look at the size of this Godzilla... that's not going to kill him, and even if it did, you would vaporize the whole ocean by doing so.
@Whoever was above me. In most reboots, yes, but the particular director of this movie cares a lot about the source material. Either way, we won't know until the movie comes out.

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-20-2013 7:31 PMListen, I know that most of us are going to want a sequel, but we should wait to see how the movie turns out! I mean, what if Godzilla 2014 turns out to be just like 1998!
FOR SCIENCE OF COURSE!

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-20-2013 8:19 PMwhy do they try to make godzilla realistic ? is there a giant radioactive dino running around in real life ?

MRImage69
MemberMothra LarvaeDec-20-2013 11:13 PMI think he can be wounded but not killed outright. A force of nature is what they are looking for here from what I have read before, so a force of nature not unlike hurricaines that happen over and over again every year, tornados, etc. This force of nature (Godzilla) may be a reactionary one of sorts in that it comes around every once in awhile and bitchslaps us for our arrogance, or has to be a counter balance to something else (another monster) which is just the way nature works......Man, I'm a geek but I can't help it. Talking about this stuff is great.

GODZILLA HIMSELF
MemberMothra LarvaeDec-21-2013 2:11 AMTRUE BATMAN, my thoughts exactly. and even with the oxygen destroyer, some versions of godzilla were fine. gmk godzilla regenerated, g vs megaguirus goji was fine, and depending on wether you watch the japanese or american version of g-1985 the oxygen destroyer does nothing altogether(steve martin says they never found a body). godzilla should be something that never really goes away, and he should only get deadlier every time he comes back.

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-21-2013 2:44 AMGareth Edwards also used the term "the wrath of GOD" when describing what Godzilla represents. That's all i need to here. You pack up your loved ones, leave the area, and simply pray that he passes.

Zodgilla
MemberMothra LarvaeDec-21-2013 8:23 AMI really wish that more people understood this is a REBOOT, not a continuation of previously established things in the Toho movies. No Regenerator G-1, no oxygen destroyer, and certainly no references to anything that happened in the Toho movies...
I don't think Godzilla will be killed (Edwards did say this is the beginning of a new franchise, and there couldn't be one without the Big G), but it's very possible that he can be hurt...

Colonel Carbine
MemberMothra LarvaeDec-22-2013 1:20 PM@ zodgilla, while this is a reboot of the franchise. your assumption of there being no oxygen destroyer is proved wrong by the fact that the character, Dr. Serizawa is in the new film. It was him that invented the Oxygen Destroyer. So there is a possibilty that in this film, or any of the ones that will be followed, the Oxygen Destroyer will physically be in the film, or at least hinted at.

Zodgilla
MemberMothra LarvaeDec-23-2013 3:37 PM@ Colonel Carbine: I'm fairly sure there will be no oxygen destroyer in this film, because audiences in 2014 are much more sohisticated than in the 1950s. Think about it: how would removing oxygen from seawater make anything disintegrate? In fact, removing oxygen from water would just leave you with a crapload of hydrogen gas, which wouldn't harm Godzilla at all. Not to mention you'd be killing all sea life in the area also, by removing oxygen...
I know the character of Serizawa is in this new movie, but it doesn't mean that everything connected to the original will be...

Linkzilla
MemberMothra LarvaeDec-23-2013 4:30 PM@ZODGILLA I think you severely overestimate modern audiences when you say that they are "more sophisticated than in the 1950s." And even if they were, I doubt most of them would know what would happen if you removed oxygen from seawater, and they'd probably be perfectly willing to suspend their disbelief for that bit of pseudo-science.

dinoboy22
MemberMothra LarvaeDec-23-2013 4:56 PMi think linkzilla is right. i dont really think they would care all that much about scientific fact. many on the forum would care including myself but the average movie goer wouldnt

Zodgilla
MemberMothra LarvaeDec-24-2013 11:43 AM@Linkzilla and Dinoboy22: I gotta disagree with you guys on the audience mentality thing. You don't have to be a science fan to know that removing oxygen from water won't destroy anything; that's grade-school science...
Yes, moviegoers ARE alot more knowledgable now than in the 1950s. Take a look at some of the criticisms of modern scifi movies compared to what filmmakers could get past audiences in the 50s...
If there is an oxygen destroyer in this movie, it would asphyxiate Godzilla, as opposed to disintegrating him, which would be alot more plausible...
We now live in a much more tech-savvy society. In a day and age when kids can do computer programming and people walk around with a phone that's actually a mini PC in their pockets, the general public isn't nearly as 'sci-gullible' as in the past. Even the idea that radioactivity can mutate a living organism into something monstrous is laughed at nowadays, whereas in past decades, people bought into it easily...
Just my .02

mattman559
MemberMothra LarvaeDec-24-2013 12:19 PMi think both sides of this argument are making good points and a lot what you are saying is true but neither of you are right. audiences are more sophisticated today than they were in 54, but that doesnt mean its common knowledge to know what would happen if you remove oxygen from water. that being said, i really doubt the oxygen destroyer will be in this film. why cause so much more death to kill off godzilla when you can just keep him alive and hope a sequel in greenlit.
