Deadite KaijuGodzilla 2014 ForumThe Suitmation or CGI

I personally prefer suits but only for its time. I don't mind CGI and I am happy that the new movie is a CGI Godzilla as long as it looks good and realistic. If TOHO decides to make more movies I think they should do CGI Godzilla movies because suits are so outdated. But then again TOHO isn't very good at CGI so maybe they should stick to wearing suits but like you said, maybe if they don't rush the damn movie in post production and get the help from some good VFX artists, they could make some pretty sweet CGI effects for a Godzilla film. I only like CGI when it's done well. If it is done crappy, then practical effects are they way to go.

I really believe this is the most underrated Godzilla movies of all time. Since it was the sequel to the original it's often left in it's shadow, but I like it much better than most of the other entries.

The monster fight in the best monster fight in the whole series. There's no beams, no karate, no comical shots, its a serious deathmatch that every director should have had to watch before directing any fight scene in the sequels. The characters are decent, the Godzilla suit doesn't look as good as the first one but it still looks ok, not the worst suit by far. The build up for the attacks was really good. Seeing the city getting evacuated and them succceeding to lure Godzilla away just so he would come back due to a decent car chase worked very well for me.

Unfortunately the dub is the worst Godzilla movie dubbing of all time, and the reason I think this movie is so underrated. When I just saw the dub I disliked this movie quite a lot, due to him never being referenced as Godzilla, messing up the roar, making the voice of yogi bear completely take away any seriousness a character had. I really think if more people saw the sub, rather than the dub the movie would be looked at differently, but unfortunately a lot of people would rather see an inferior movie rather than read though a better 1.

It wouldn't be the first poorly photoshopped material for this movie that's official. This is official and it's also badly photoshopped:

Those do look pretty funny, though the second plate offers a new angle of Godzilla - showing off a more scaley chest. I won't say these are the real deal just yet, but I would never expect party plates to present something amazing, they're disposable plates after all. So they could actually be a real product. The first one looks pretty photoshopped though, I will admit that, haha.

Those two clips of Godzilla walking were fake and I don't think the trailer will come out tomorrow. There is too much bullshit and misleading information floating around on the internet that it is starting to make me sick. Apparently the trailer will be 'completed' on the 14th of this month but not actually 'released'. I think the trailer will come out in March.

mickingGodzilla ForumHulk and Godzilla: More similar than you think?

Here is what I think of that idea:

A Meeting of Monsters
By Michael L. King

Godzilla would probably have never noticed the relatively tiny, green creature.  It was sleeping in the foliage of this small, nameless, otherwise uninhabited, offshore island. Godzilla inadvertently stepped on it.

Godzilla certainly couldn’t comprehend that they both had come here to take a rest from the ceaseless, hounding pursuit and attacks by the fearful masses with their guns, missiles, tanks, planes and bombs!

Had Godzilla stepped just a few feet to one side or the other, they would be blissfully unaware of one another.  Now, because of how events played out, they now would never forget each other!

Godzilla had just come ashore out of the tepid ocean water and had intended to take a soothing nap under the warm tropical sun.  Unbeknownst to Godzilla, the tiny green creature had exactly the same idea and was already resting on the soft beach sand under the fronds of a swaying palm tree.

Tons of pressure came down upon the small, green creature.  Godzilla’s foot pressed him deeply into the packed beach sand.  Any other creature would simply have been crushed to death.  Not this one. He just woke up angry! VERY ANGRY!
Godzilla didn’t give the little creature even half a thought as it burst out of the compacted sand in Godzilla’s footprint and proceeded to roar, rage and curse at the passing leviathan.
Godzilla didn’t really notice him at all until suddenly…PAIN!  The little green creature had actually managed to shatter one of Godzilla’s toenails!
Ordinarily, that would never have been a problem since Godzilla’s healing factor, Replicator G-1, should have healed it near instantly.  Godzilla didn’t know that the presence of  high levels of hard radiation ,such as gamma rays,  would inhibit his healing.
This little green creature was painfully annoying!  Godzilla tried to reach down, grab him and toss him away, but He was much too agile and persisted in avoiding Godzilla’s grasp.

Godzilla decided to end this folly with a well placed tail smash, but the force of the tail was diverted and whipped around and smacked Godzilla’s chest and face.

    This was HUMILIATING!

Godzilla raised a foot with the intent of a fight ending stomp,  but the little green creature jumped up to Godzilla’s other leg and WHAM!

Godzilla’s kneecap was shattered!  600,000 tons fell and struck the island with seismic fury! Godzilla was face forward, flat on his belly and unable to rise until his healing factor could resume.

The little green man actually approached Godzilla’s fallen face while continuing to rage and curse.  He walked up to Godzilla’s mouth, reared back, and SMASH!  Dislodged one of Godzilla’s teeth!

As blood poured into Godzilla’s mouth, Godzilla decided that it had had enough!  It’s spine began to glow, It took a deep breath and WHOOSH!…and then, Godzilla passed out.

Godzilla woke up later and the little green creature was gone.  It’s healing factor had done it’s job now that the source of gamma radiation was gone.

Godzilla never even realized that it’s breath was similar to the event that created the little green man.  They were, in a way, brothers of a radioactive age!

It did realize however that it never wanted to step on THE HULK ever again!

Hope you enjoyed it.

@Godzilla3580

You're right when you mentioned that the movie was very character driven. In fact it was so much so that it took away from it. Still, there several things that I enjoy about Godzilla Raids Again including the first monster vs. monster action in the series, the serious tone of the film which was enhanced by the soundtrack and also the fact that it was in black and white. The film also had a documentary style to it including those scenes where a discussion is being held on the possible origin of the two monsters. Overall, it is a good entry in the series. It just could've benefitted from a better balance between the monster action and storytelling.

There's things that I adore about that movie but largely it's a miss. The first voyeuristic fight between the rocks was awesome and I loved how the monsters fought. The way they dispatched Godzilla was original but handled poorly. The tension of the fire truck explosion and Godzilla noticing was great too. Best scene is a chilling moment where a woman looks out her window and can see the devastation far away.

For the absolutely awful stuff, nearly every explosion is super imposed onto Godzilla and it looks God awful. The stock footage of the 54 attack goes on forever. If you watch the dub the narration and b movie opening are useless , not too mention the dub borderline offense with over the top stereotype Japanese accents, and for some reason they swapped Anguirus and Godzilla's roars.

For me though, the absolute biggest offense is the pacing. There's barely any build up to Godzilla's arrival and afterwards the film comes to a complete halt for a solid 14 minutes I think I counted. We follow the characters normal, every day lives with no tension at all for nearly 15 minutes, it is by far the most boring segment in the entire Godzilla series and killed what up to that point was a fairly decent film. I think it's the shortest Godzilla movie which is sad when I can say they should have severely trimmed it even more.

@ LOGAN'S DISPLAYNAME - "The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug" was NOT the drop date for the first trailer, so that's a horrible way to reference what might happen.

The first trailer dropped on the 10th, two days before the Desolation of Smaug came out in theaters.

If this trailer comes out anytime soon within this month, there's no telling when it happens. We need to be patient and wait for Legendary to throw us a bone like last time when they actually announced that it would drop on the 10th.

So don't be one of those guys who tries to be the next prophet and tell us when the trailer drops. You don't get anything for it, and it's not worth your effort. Sit tight and wait for the next trailer to hit, and give it some respectful time to do so. Legendary is one of the biggest names in the movie industry for a reason. They won't let us down.

@Petedj06

I highly recommend you watch the original Japanese version. While it still has issues, it's a much more cohesive film that echoes much of the haunting pieces of the first film.

It's the last third or so where the film falls apart, but it's a much more enjoyable experience than the Gigantis version.

KyeroGodzilla 2014 ForumGodzilla sequels and monsters?

TEVIN is right in that you're a bit vague on whether or not you want opinions or official details, as there are no official details on sequels. However, if you want opinion, I can give you that.

At the very least, one sequel. Why? Because the concept of a 'trilogy' has been done to death and the last thing this franchise needs is for something so boring as the idea of a trilogy to weigh it down. So at the least we need one sequel if the movie does well enough to warrant one, but I will never say that exactly two sequels will ever be warranted. If this movie doesn't do well enough for a sequel, then too bad. If it does, hallelujah, but if that second one bombs, it stops there. Legendary should not force a third sequel just to make it a cute little trilogy.

Now, if it goes to four or above films, it really all depends on what kind of stories are told along the way.

So far, we know that this first one is an origin story so Godzilla and the furture of the franchise both have room to grow. If the movie does well enough and isn't open ended, then the second movie could easily be a case of something along the lines of Godzilla's reemergence, and the creation/discovery of new enemies.

However, I will never say that creating Mechagodzilla is a good idea. It's not. I said it before and I'll say it again, there's no point in creating a robot in the shape of Godzilla. It looks cool, but that's all the practicality there is to the idea so it should not be done.

Anyway, back on track, perhaps the discovery of a new enemy. Another creature like Godzilla which grew to tremendous size either due to radiation or some other cause emerges and begins wreaking havoc. Godzilla's nemesis doesn't need more than that reason to bring about a good movie. If they want to make it more convoluted, then can, but that's all it will take to get a decent jump off point.

The problem with Godzilla is that every movie is basically going to be a continuation of the first one in that it's going to involve the concept of a new monster or some kind of new force to go against him. It's old fashioned, but it's really the only thing that works. The human race can't hold their own against him, we know that. However, again, Mechagodzilla won't work because there's no point in making a robot shaped like Godzilla. There's nothing that a mechanical Godzilla can do that a human shaped robot like the Jaegers in Pacific Rim cannot. In fact, there's less that it can do because of the limits posed by its anatomical differences.

So whatever Legendary decides to do with future sequels will have to involve more monsters because they're the only thing that will present a challenge for Godzilla. I don't personally like the Pacific Rim crossover even though I liked that movie, so if they do that I'll be more than a little disappointed in them.

My two cents.

Totally dig Desplat. Zero Dark Thirty and The Ides of March are my favorites of his. I'm excited to hear the combination of an electric violin with Japanese drums. Should be a pretty powerful score.

Here's some other pieces to help expectations:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SryP7CQqP4s

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3T66Sdo_U2A

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fU5RLrl0xY

I can imagine the first two being a vague representation for Godzilla and parts of the third underscoring the military. Not that I expect it to sound exactly like those pieces at all, but it's probably the closest of his current material.

@DANNYBLAZOR then it wouldnt be a childrens toy anymore, it would be a collectors item. take a look at the SH Monster arts line, they are veeerrry detailed highly articulatred toys of the monsters. and what do they say on the box? "warning choking hazard, for children 15 and up" they are not childrens toys. what you are saying is basically hand a three year old an SH monster arts figure. and trust me, parents dont exactly pay attention to the age range on toys.

Danzilla93Godzilla 2014 ForumGodzilla 2014 Soundtrack- What we can expect

Alexandre is pretty awesome, and an icredible composer.  I'm a pretty big soundtrack nerd myself, and I am very familier with Alexandre's work through his Harry Potter scores.  Very few of those film's soundtracks truly impressed me after John Williams depated the series following the third movie, but this guy's did.  It is very moving and powerful, and works well with character driven moments.  That will be pivotal in this film.  His score for The King's Speech was pretty amazing as well, and that film is driven purely by the charactors' journey through the events of the film.  Alexandre's music is very versatile and, most importantly, classically influenced.  I fell like his score for Godzilla will be something special, combining epic grandure with emotional power, all with an old school (yet still modernized) classical backbone.  I cannot wait to see what he has in store for us with the soundtrack for thi film. :)

Guys as bad as this might look, I think these are legitimate.  Think about it, if you are trying to market to kids for their birthday parties or other events that might need a Godzilla theme, these would be in a midground between scary and appealing to smaller kids.  Everyone said that the Amazon Godzilla store banner was fake, yet here's that same image on plates and showing different parts of the character.  You guys may laugh at it, but I think that it's real.
