TheGMan123Godzilla 2014 Forumwhat would you want in an end credits scene?

@Godawsome2 I wouldn't tell them to shut up at all. I'd just stick the money right in their faces and run away and watch the movie. Or strap it to a tasty nuke for Godzilla and friends.

Well, the resemblance to that original concept is still there with the current designs seen in the Mutos so far, just modified a bit to bear a little less resemblance to weird spider-looking things. I think it's a natural progression, really. However, when we first saw the Muto in the leaked Wondercon footage, it seemed to be a lot smaller overall in comparison to its latest appearance in the Asia Trailer. Or maybe I'm just not good with perspective. I don't know.

I think there just wasn't anyone of particular artistic skill in that audience and that was the best they could come up with.

well no offense to you super hero fans out there but, i am hoping that godzilla will not only dominate the box office but send these same old super hero's in total retreat.

The spider man series should have came to an end when toby mcguire quit, but this is only how i feel about super hero movies, they just seem the same really.

Psst. Great topic, but we already have a comparison of these two movies going on in this thread here:

^True. The Cold War conspiring is still there. Arguably he was trying to stop the launch to not only prevent a nuclear holocaust, but an international relations disaster for Russia as well. Regardless, the act of trying to stop the launch registered as a more believable reaction and less stereotypical.

DaimajinGodzilla 2014 ForumWHen are the critics reviewing G-man?

I work in the film industry (3D animation) & I have attended quite a few screenings & several premiers.

I have found The strategy varies-it all depends on the director & the marketing department

if a film is terrible, they will often wait till almost the release date & even not have pre-screenings for critics.

If a film is good, but not really big, they will often let people/reporters to see the screenings early to accomoate thier schedules- they will release reviews early.

On some big films they think are really big, they often have embargo's till after the premeir- my guess is to have a "big Splash"

if you don't start getting reviews slightlly before the opening week or the monday of the opening, then start to worry. Otherwise I would there is nothing to reallt conclude.

AND- most importantly- a lot of reviewers like their swag they get from the studios. So, they tend to do "favors" for the studios that are friendly to them & studios know that. They will invite in studio friendly reviewers to see the screeners first- I suspect this is happening with Spiderman.

I think a lot of revievewers will go in to Godzilla with a negative opinion first with the 98 still leaving a bad taste & it is not "high art" a lot of the reviewers like- so WB's job is to convince them- which is why they are probably waiting till the premier- critics have big egos & are lemmings- they want to fit in & look "cool" & have what they think is the "right opinion" Good leaked wor of mouth will help with this

So far I have seen 2 reviews- both said it is amazing (slash & a screener's). I think they are legit

I never felt bothered by the addition of the intentional launch of the Russian missle. I don't doubt that it was changed to reflect American opinions of the Soviet Union, but regardless of which version you watch, ultimately the Russians look like bad guys for violating UN space agreements with a satelitte mounted nuclear weapon and pointing it at Tokyo in the first place. And furthermore, they look inept for having a system that can be triggered by a ship getting slammed into the docks violently.

Those are all awsome ideas! Even though there probably won't be a credits scene I'll still check and I'll wait for a few days after the movie stops showing in theaters. And another thing, when I saw the teaser I screamed: "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY EDWARDS!" this movie is gonna be awsome, and if it isn't, ill cry my head off.(it being bad is an unlikely posibility though)

Well the asian trailer certainly makes it seem like he could possibly have been woken up on purpose. Seeing how the us tried to take him out once, they might know where he was sleeping. No matter what Godzilla is gonna rock this shiz!

G. H. (Gman)Godzilla ForumReturn of Godzilla vs. Godzilla 1985

Overall, I prefer the original version, but there are things I really do like about the Americanized version.

I think the pacing of Godzilla 1985 is better, which is the main thing I take away from the American version. There are some very minor cuts that make the story feel like it moves along at a brisker pace. There's even moments of tension that are more effective and make for a greater emotional impact.

Some of the music re-arranging works better as well. Not a whole lot was added, which was the case for Godzilla 2000, but the way it was re-edited in the movie felt stronger.

Ultimately, though, that's about the nicest stuff I can say for Godzilla 1985. The movie practically cuts out 1/3 of the original picture and the mangling/scene shuffling makes it look like the editor of the original movie was schizophrenic.

The pentagon additions added literally nothing to the film's story. Raymond Burr has nothing to do but brood about his experience with Godzilla and act like he knows more than everyone else. It was a good idea to bring him back, but unlike the 1956 Americanization he's not in the center of the action, making his arc rather boring.

I also don't approve of the scene shuffling with the crowd...etc... Whether they were supposed to be evacuated or authorities had yet to get everyone out is a question I'm willing to risk in favor of better editing. The shots just didn't fit: Suddenly Godzilla's hovering above crumbled building's when the previous shot had him at the docks?

And I for one enjoyed how the Godzilla vs. Super X, missile crisis and helicopter rescue all came at once. It gives the film a sense of heightened urgency in the middle of a seemingly hopless disaster. Everything happening altogether raised the stakes and kept everything on the edge, despite the haphazardness to it.

The most blatent offense is, of course, the missile launching: In the Japanese version the Russians try to stop it, but, naturally, the Russians purposfully launch it in the American version. If that doesn't scream typical, 1980s, cold-war propaganda then I don't know what does. It goes against everything Godzilla movies have been about since their inception. The missile launch being an accident in the Japanese cut adds credence to the Godzilla series' idea that nuclear proliferation will yield negative results no matter what. Launching the missile just makes the Russians look like stereotypical baddies.

I don't dislike Godzilla 1985, but I see it as an inept Americanization in comparison to 1956's Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Then again, Godzilla (1954) was a better movie than Godzilla (1984), so perhaps less just needed cutting. Regardless, I wish I could have the Japanese version with the American cut's pacing. That would probably be the best possible cut of the film to date.

I love Mothra. The original film is one of the very best of Toho's fantasy films and really set the lighthearted tone for the 1960s era of the genre. Her crossover with Godzilla worked much better than King Kong's and her appearances since then have typically been a delight.

Still... The 1990s Mothra Trilogy is like watching a cannibal eat your family alive: A truly horrible experience all the way through.

@Mecha G; I think what you're trying to say is that there are sample panels available for the comic 'Godzilla: Awakening', and it shows a Muto attacking a ship? If so, I'd love a link for that.

@KingKaijuGojira; OST means 'Original Sound Track'

MONSTERMOVIEGUY,

But how will Godzilla return to the sea? If the fight is in a city, he can cause a lot of destruction. Plus if there was another reason, he would have taken care of it before the final fight.

Also what does OST mean?
