MemberTitanosaurusApr-22-2020 4:19 PMMichael Dougherty released a CGI turnaround of the new MUTO seen at the end of Godzilla: King of the Monsters on his Instagram page (@instamikedougherty). He also officially confirmed her name: Queen MUTO (aka "Barb").
From his post: "I loved Gareth’s creatures from the 2014 film and wanted to keep the species alive, but also evolve certain elements to hint that this one is different and older than the MUTOs we saw before, hence the “crown” of dorsal ridges to express her royal status. Her body is also covered with scars from past battles...or mating rituals."
Also from Mr. Dougherty, official confirmation on why Queen MUTO didn't try to attack Goji at the end of the movie:
"Because Barb isn’t stupid."
Seems reasonable enough.
I know how, erm...divisive the value of in-universe factoids are around these parts, but I for one hope to see more info in the lead up to Legendary's KOTM watchalong. I'm especially keeping my fingers crossed for more turnarounds of the new Titans.
UPDATE: Dougherty has now confirmed that: "Barb was undiscovered so she was never contained or classified. She was in hibernation deep beneath a strip mall in Hoboken NJ."

MemberTitanosaurusApr-22-2020 5:23 PMInteresting. She is definitely my favorite Muto (though she had little screen time). So a different species huh? It makes sense. There are multiple species of the same kind of animal all over the planet. No one said all Muto had to follow the Muto Prime life-cycle/evolutionary chain. I want to know more about Barb and the other Titans (like Behemoth and Scylla)

MemberBaragonApr-22-2020 5:46 PMTHANK YOU. I've been saying this is a different species since day one. Exactly what KingKaijuGojira said, similar-looking species can have wildly differing lifestyles, happens all the time. Queen MUTO could simply parasitize another species of Titan, or not be a parasite at all.
More turnarounds would literally be the best thing, but I'd also take whatever was decided on as the final concept art for other Titans, especially the ones we didn't see in the movie.

MemberTitanosaurusApr-22-2020 6:30 PMKingKaijuGojira, Gomi: Ninja Monster I dunno', I'm not really convinced that this is supposed to represent a new species. I mean, it could, I suppose, but I think he was trying to say that this an older individual.
For now, I'm still holding to the theory that Queen MUTO is in a transitional stage between your average Femuto and MUTO Prime. A couple of people (myself included) have left questions along those lines, and if I see a response from the man himself, I'll be sure to let you know.

MemberTitanosaurusApr-22-2020 6:38 PMJurassicKaiju14, I also agree with that theory. That was my go to theory at first. Now the more I think about it, the more I would like to see another species type of monster. All I can be sure of is that the Queen Muto is something. Whether Barb is mid-Prime transformation or a new species of Muto is up to Michael Doughtery

MemberBaragonApr-23-2020 10:44 AMHmm, most interesting. That means there were 18 Titans shown or referenced in the movie/tie-ins.
I definitely feel like there's a reference I'm missing with her nickname now.

MemberTitanosaurusApr-23-2020 11:28 AMGomi: Ninja Monster Well, Serizawa did say that there were 17 known Titans. Looks like Queen MUTO wasn't among them.
