Simply put, with the sequel we may expect to see different origins for these monsters.

With that being said, and somewhat going off of the thread Noah_S made...

http://www.godzilla-movies.com/community/forums/topic/38202

What will the motives of these monsters be in the new movie?

For the first movie, obviously the motivation behind the MUTOS was reproduction, that is why they destroyed the power plant and were going after radioactive materials throughout their travels, destruction was just a bi-product.

However, with these 3 monsters, there is going to be no reproducing going on (as far as we know aha), so what will the motives for these monsters be in the movie?

Will they all actually have motives for destruction and death, or will they simply be guided by natural/animal instincts in the movie like Godzilla was showcased to have been doing?

I personally believe that Rodan and Ghidorah will both be following a certain animal instinct like Godzilla, and will just be going at it to see who is top dog, while I believe Mothra will have different motives.

I don't believe mothra will be like a saviour of the world sort of creature she was in the older movies, but I do believe that her and her little offsprings will be in the movie (in their egg), and that she will be trying to protect them from these 3 guys.  Possibly Rodan or King Ghidorah ate these eggs as a food source, and that could be the part where they go by their animal insticts.

What do you guys think??? Let me know

I think Ghidorah will be given actual evil motives to set him apart from the M.U.T.O.s. They were just villains if circumstance, Ghidorah is just pure chaotic evil. Rodan may be either territorial or in search of food, which could at first bring him into conflict with Godzilla. Mothra I see as being a benevolent creature, possibly defending her young or even a group of humans that worship her. I don't think she'll be an actual goddess, but rather a mysterious creature that is seen as divine by some. I think regardless of motivations, Godzilla, Mothra, and Rodan will be forced to put aside their differences and join against Ghidorah to assure their own survivals.

Well, the only time we saw King Ghidorah in the Millenium series, it was an under-developed gaurdian spirit protecting the land, so we never know what its motives might be.

Ghidorah has been legitimately evil before without being under control in Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster and in Rebirth of Mothra 3. The only reason he was good in GMK was because his role was written for Varan. Ghidorah has traditionally always been evil.

MNJARO - Hmm, what a very interesting set of ideas you've brought to us! I'd have to say that giving Ghidorah and Rodan slightly more malevolent personalities that allow them to stand out as individuals is a fine way to go - though vesting them with an instinctual lean all the while so as to keep them in line with Godzilla. As for Mothra, I like the idea of her being a mother attempting to keep her offsrping safe. That strikes me as a believable premise that would give Mothra a sympathetic lean and allow for the audience to route for her triumph! Thank you ever so much for sharing this with us! :)

@Something real ....you honestly give the best responses on this site aha thank you.

To go with the evil motives, idk if that would pass in the legendary series, as far as i know, there arent animals out there that performs acts or do things for the simple fact of doing it other than humans, every other animal does something based off of instinct, whether it be attacking another animal or trying to gain territory for survival.

I agree that he has always been a source of pure evil, but if edwards wants this to be grounded and realistic, i don't see him taking that route for king ghidorah, it will be interesting to see what they do though

I think the fact that most animals do not act according to good or evil is exactly the point. King Ghidorah is an anomaly. Godzilla and Rodan will probably act according to some kind of instinct, while Ghidorah could actually be driven by destructive evil desires. Mothra on the other hand could have an actual element of good nature and work to protect both her young and the people who rely on her for protection. This would make the characters of King Ghidorah all the more interesting.
