Hey Daikaiju fans!

HOLY CRAP! THIS MOVIE IS SO BEAUTIFUL AND AWESOME AND EMOTIONAL AND AND AND-....

Ahem. Anyway... This Godzilla movie is just such a wonderful film and experience. Yeah, there are a FEW complaints I have, but otherwise it's a perfect Goji movie!

HOWEVER, there are people out there that complain about the stupidest things in the movie! I'm all fine with opinion, but this is just plain nitpicky, attention-grabbing complaints.

(These are legitimate problems Gfans have with this movie.)

-"There are too much white people!"

Dude, you're watching a GODZILLA MOVIE and you're whining that there are too much white people? And even so, THERE ARE TONS OF DIFFERENT RACES IN THIS FILM. You know, people point out things like this in movies all the time saying 'they're racist!' when really, it's kind of racist that you pointed that out. Jus' sayin.

Good God.

-"There isn't a strong role for women!

...Okay. I wanna play this game too...

I am offended that there aren't enough Christians in Godzilla 2014. The only one we see is the guy on the plane before he HALO jumps into the city when he was reading the Bible and praying to God.

I AM OFFENDED.

-"Godzilla is called 'The King of the Monsters' and 'savior'!"

You're seriously complaining about that? Would you rather him have people flipping the bird at him and calling him a "fat@$$ lizard" as he goes into the ocean? WHAT KIND OF GFAN ARE YOU?

*sigh* I just don't...

Exactly, exactly....what has this world come to? Hehe, I absolutely loved this film! Well said DAIKAIJU_DANIELLE, well said!

How far can we push nature before it pushes back?

Those sound like complaints from people who aren't really Godzilla fans. I personally loved this movie saw it Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. and the theater broke out in applause when it was over. My only complaint if any would be I wanted to see more of the monsters. I think that complaint is reasonable. I'm sure they could've squeezed abot 10-15 minutes more throughout the movie of Godzilla searching for the Mutos. They could of had a really big action set piece of him having a stand-off with the Air Force in the Pacific Ocean just before arriving in San Francisco. It would've really showed off just how unstoppable he and the Muto were. I really believe the Mutos E.M.P. attack was a clever directorial choice to not have to do really big set pieces throughout the film and save money. Like the reason why the battle I just described didn't happen was because the filmmakers could say "How could that take place with the mutos zapping the area with there EMP? Which has no effect on Godzilla himself so it's pretty useless in a fight. My 2 cents anyways.

i kind of agree with this. many people are too sensitive about things and need to chill. and godzilla wasnt exactly trying to be a hero he just wanted to defeat the mutos and go back home

Yeah....political correctness has gone way too far in this country. That potential marathon of a soap box aside.....

Almost none of those critiques are unique to Godzilla. I mean, I think I know which Youtube critic you're responding to, but yeah, it's always incredibly bugged me that ever since the first trailers were released, they have exclusively hopped on GODZILLA about this.

Yet, any of their other movie reviews or commentaries they don't mention it. Lack of strong female characters in movies happens ALL the time in Hollywood. Disproportiantely white cast happens ALL the time. Why they have singled out Godzilla so harshly as if Godzilla was specifically 'sexist' or 'racist' in a vacuum of Hollywood purity is complete B.S. to me.

Could Godzilla have given its female and Japanese cast more to do? Definitely.

Should Hollywood be as sexist or racist as it is? No, probably not.

But A: it's a system wide problem, not a problem with individual movies, and B: It's more the general audiences' fault for buying the tickets than anything else. Hollywood isn't sexist for the sake of being sexist. Hollywood produces films that make the most money. Turns out, movies that have sexist undertones make more money than movies which hammer gender equality. Hollywood follows the dollar...which comes from us....so really, it's the societies' (including the reviewer's) own damn fault if they are gonna blame anybody.

If it actually bothers them, it should be in every review, not just Godzilla's. And Godzilla for its part, is actually STRONGER in its gender roles and multi-culturalism than many other films, including the recent Spiderman and Captain America which received no such complaints from this same person.

But yeah, this one movie review 'Slactivism' that this reviewer does really irritates me.

Gender and Racial politics in movies aside.....I DO think there is a valid concern for the whole 'Godzilla the Savior' complaint.

I understand that in this movie, the monsters weren't specifically going after humans, they were rather in their own isolated conflict, and the humans are just collateral damage in the crossfire. I get that. I understand Godzilla is not 'out to get us' in this movie. But I still feel like people should be more afraid/critical of him than they were. He shouldn't be 'the hero' or 'the savior'. They should still be like, damn well, he killed a lot of people in that tsunami, at Golden Gate, etc.....how do we stop this guy? Or prevent him from taking more lives in the future? Coastal Wall program lulz? :-)

A better caption should have read something like 'destruction/nightmare over?' 'godzilla retreats...for how long?' 'next step to rebuild?' etc. Something that would encapsulate a more accurate human reaction than the 'thank you Godzilla' angle that they took with it. A powerful neutral anti-hero shouldn't be getting praise or scorn. Rather respect, and fear.

I dunno, it's minor gripe, in an otherwise massively entertaining movie. Maybe I'm overthinking it. But yeah the 'Savior' news tag bothered me a little bit too. Not enough to ruin the film of course, but I can see where the critique is coming from there.

The rest of those critiques though...yeah...damn....complete and utter BS.

I haven't heard any of these complaints for this movie.

@DURATOK

Just check out the youtube channel 'Beyond the Trailer' and look at their Godzilla content (there isn't much of it, but it's there)

The part that makes it frustrating is that isn't just some pissant channel whose some incoherent troll, with 23 subscribers, 7 of which are his own duplicate accounts to inflate his own ego.

This is like a legitimate channel, with a huge audience. And SOME of their content is actually good.

But for Godzilla, they really want to tear down the movie. And not like in a 'I'm not a Godzilla fan, and find these parts over the top and cheesy' tear it down......because that would be reasonable, everyone is allowed to have their own personal taste yada yada.....

but rather the angle they take is more like....'this reboot is morally reprehensible from a political standpoint' tear it down......which is.....i mean the stupid is beyond words.

Oh really? Huh, that's kind of surprising. Well maybe those facebook people watch 'Beyond the Trailer'

In any case, the complaints are silly.

Most of this criticsm is coming from trolls, not actual regular moviegoers.

Grace Randolph of Beyond the Trailer is who Madison is talking about. I watched her review for Godzilla and to my surprise she actually liked it. I fully expected her to dump on it given the way she tore apart the trailers. She felt like Gareth was the strength and weakness of the movie. She basically said that he copies Spielberg's visual style of storytelling without actually telling a story that is compelling enough. I actually feel this is pretty accurate but I also feel as though Gareth is getting too much blame for the film's shortcomings. The screenplay is weak at best. I feel as though Gareth's overall direction saved the film.

I like how the rational people of the Godzilla Fan-base(which is mostly all of us) Is more happy about how the movie delivers the suspense actions in even servings then just an all out Kaiju fight. The last fight was amazing by any kaiju movie standards, the best so far in my opinion...

I get the feeling that the critics and the movie-goers who are not die hard fans are just brushing this movie off like Pacific Rim, but claiming less action.

This movie was well made, and banking hard in box offices. Gareth KNOWS he's getting a sequel, and it's there he'll let loose on the kaiju action.

When i walked out of my first viewing, i was smiling to mysef when little kids behind were just chatting away about how awesome Godzilla was; so i know that this new series is gonna go far...

Just saw the movie.  (SPOILERS!!)  There was not enough explanation (and when things were explained they were done so by a person with a Japanese accent.  I couldn't always understand him).  There was not enough realism. There was not enough awe. There was not enough destruction.  We saw the aftermath of the MUTOs, but we didn't see them do anything.  Also, people weren't amazed enough.  Where were all the newspeople.  Where did Godzilla come from?  Why couldn't they use laser guided, bunker-busting missiles right into the mouths of the Mutos.  Where was the  news conference?  Godzilla had no personality.  It almost appeared as if he was impersonating Godzila rather than BEing Godzilla.

Gareth Edwards was over his head.  The direction was lacking.  And the score was intrusive.  I now see why they waited so long to allow reviews.  I bet the studios were surprised at the number of positives reviews.

But I'm going to give it one more chance.  I'm going backing on Wednesday.  Maybe the second time will be the charm. 4/10

@ RatedRex: Not sure if trolling, or just being overly pessimistic

1. Explanation: There were some things that weren't as well explained as they could have been, but I feel this movie did a BETTER job of explanation than most super hero/sci-fi/fantasy movies. If this is an actual complaint, I'm not sure how you became a Godzilla fan in the first place given the total lack of plausible explanations provided in previous films.

2. Japanese Accent: I have trouble with accents too sometimes. I dunno, I felt Ken was pretty clear, but then again I've seen a lot of his previous movies, so maybe I'm just used to it. I can see where you're coming from here though.

3. Realism: Same as #1. Way more realism than other blockbusters this year and more realism than past Godzillas. Obviously the movie had some unrealistic elements, but not such a distracting amount as to call it a 'drawback' unless you just don't like genre in the first place. Which if you don't like the genre...fine, to each their own...but then again I don't understand your original liking for Godzilla in the first place.

4. Awe: Eh, you kinda have a point here. Too many people in the movie are proceeding in a 'business as usual' sort of way given the impact and drastic nature of the events. But that was a minor concern for me than a huge one.

5. Destruction vs. Aftermath: This really comes down to personal taste. I was happy w/ the amount of destruction. I know some people really like the Man of Steel/Pacific Rim thing. Others don't. Not really a way to persuade people to change taste.

6. News People: Ehhhyeaahh....maybe??? They can't focus on EVERY element of the human response to these things. Every disaster movie will leave SOME departments out of it even if they were there/essential/active/present. Gareth chose to give more emphasis to firefighters and emergency response crews than news....and there WERE some news bulletins and some stuff so it's not like he left the news side completely out of it. This seems incredibly petty and not sure what it would have added to movie, considering they would have had to taken away from other elements of the human response to give screen time to an overly excited news anchor or press conference of some government official.

7. Bunker Busting Missiles: Only work on stationary targets, relies on stationarly laser or some other type of fixed targeting. Hard to do that against moving MUTO. Not too mention EMP takes that completely off the table. AND Muto/Godzilla both easily handled heavy machine gun, tank, artillery, and destroyer missile fire. Even if they could have hit them with one, or several, it wouldn't have done significant damage.

8. Personality: Ummm if you don't think Godzilla had enough personality, that's fine, your perception I guess. I disagree, but your allowed your perception. To say Godzilla had NO personality though is just plain inaccurate. He definitely showed elements of anger, pride, cunning, sadness, and exasperation and other anthropomorphic emotions (most of which entirely expressed through his facial expressions which was cool) in addition to all of his animal like behavior. Maybe it wasn't as pronounced as some people would have liked, but it was definitely THERE.

9. The Score: I also disliked the score too. But for the complete opposite reason. It wasn't intrusive or overbearing....it was entirely background noise. It was utterly 'sufficient' but there were no concrete themes, there was nothing that stood out or was memorable about it. Many times I didn't even realize they were playing music at all, even when they were because it took such a backseat to what was going on on the screen. You're right a score shouldn't stand out too much. But it should stand out a little. I mean the score wasn't bad in that mismatched the tone or was annoying....but it was totally forgettable which is unfortunate.

10. Gareth Edwards: DID an AWESOME JOB imo. The way the shots were set up, the location, the camera angles, the effects......I mean, I really don't see how you could think he did poor work here. The weakest parts of the movie (primarily the script) Edwards had little to no control over. I'm actually looking forward to his next film, with Godzilla shaping into a financial hit, Edwards will surely have more latitude over his next movie, and I'm very excited to see what he does with more of his hands on the reigns considering the exemplary job he did with the parts he did have control over in this movie.

TLDR: You don't have to like the movie. It had legitimate problems. But the problems you've selected seem minor or completely unwarranted....OR they are problems that aren't unique to this Godzilla movie, problems that this movie does BETTER work on than almost any other Godzilla movie or summer blockbuster so far this year.........so yeah....either you're trolling, being overly negative, or just don't actually like Godzilla movies if these are the actual gripes you have.

Godzilla is, more or less, indestructible, but trust me, today's bunker busting bombs are A LOT more powerful than you think...

These complaints from people seem completely fictitious. I have scanned over numerous reviews, youtube videos, Facebooks posts, Tweets, etc... and have not seen any of these made even once.

Anyway, I hope my complaints are more satisfactory explanations for why Godzilla was a disappointing movie.

1. The movie was not about Godzilla. It was about Brody(Johnson) first, then the two MUTOs second. Godzilla was just a plot device there to kill the MUTOs.

2.Bryan Cranston was purely there for the star power. The marketing for the movie seemed to focus on him as much as it did Godzilla. It took about 30 minutes before Cranston died. Even worse, he died due to falling debris. He did have a major impact on the story I suppose, but it was obvious that the role could have been pretty much anybody, as it wasn't exactly a big part.

3. The giant monster fight scenes were much too short. The majority of the fight scenes were shown only partially before cutting away, never to show exactly what happened.

4. The movie was pretty cheesy in many areas, and not in the way that the Japanese movies were.

5. The movie never really gives the impression that there are giant monsters unless the giant monsters are actually on screen. Sure they talk about the giant monsters and such, but it never really feels like they're talking about giant monsters that could level entire cities just by walking through them. It seems more like they're talking about casual warfare.

6.Cliches. Cliches, everywhere.

7. Godzilla was far too friendly to humans. It was to the point where it made no sense whatsoever. He would avoid hurting humans, even when they were firing missiles straight at him. Absolutely ridiculous.

@Madison:

How are you going to review my review.  My review is MY OPINION.  You don't have to agree.  I've been a Godzilla fan since 1961, long before you were born.  And I've been a movie fan all my life.  I watch them all: blockbusters, Indie, foreign language...all of them.  You name it, I've probably seen it.  So if I don't like a movie, that's it, I don't like it.

They needed a better script, a bigger budget and a more seasoned director.
