MemberMothra LarvaeMay-17-2014 8:01 AMHey guys! If you don't want spoilers, please do not continue reading this thread. You have been warned.
But there is a scene in the movie I've seen fans critiquing at the end of the movie, where Godzilla defeats the last MUTO with his atomic breath, and then inexplicably falls unconscious, and then arbitrarily gets up later in the film to return to the sea after the nuke goes off.
To be fair to the criticism, if a movie does a good job with story telling, it shouldn't require its audience to WORK to explain the movie. It doesn't have to be explicitly spelled out, but the framework should be laid down for the audience to come to a natural conclusion. In this particular case, that framework is not laid, and I'm going to have to do some speculative WORK to tie this scene into a bow.
That being said: I'm a huge fan of my speculative idea, and like how it tidies up :-)
So many of us have already speculated before the movie came out, that using the Atomich Breath must have a draw back, in order to answer the whole "well why didn't he just lead with that" question. The movie deosn't say anything at all about the breath having a draw back. But the drain of the atomic breath could very easily explain why Godzilla waited so long to use it AND why he passed out after defeating the MUTO.
So then he's passed out, and the nuke goes off. And in the movie they already explain that all the creatures of this time feed on radiation. They also talk about letting the MUTO feed on a melted down nuclear reactor, because the MUTO is sapping the radiation, STOPPING it from affecting the population.
This could explain how Godzilla gets the strength to get back up again and walk away. His fins could work as radioactive 'solar panels'. When that nuke goes off, his fins could have absorbed the fallout. This not only restores his strength, but also allows the people to survive severe radiation poisoning without logic problems like 'The Dark Knight Rises' runs into.
So yeah, long story short, yeah, just thought I'd share some of my ideas, which might make swallowing some of the issues with the movie a little easier.
Sorry if these are repeat ideas/discussions, but I didn't see anything covering this scene yet, so I thought I'd chip in.
Have a nice day!

MemberBaragonMay-17-2014 8:02 AMi saw that and was blown away from it, that is the first time godzilla has ever layed down after a fight. All previous 28 toho films he always walked away and not even tired after such fights. Gareth did this movie right and for that i am thankful. :)

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-17-2014 8:07 AMYa, that could be it actually, well thought out MADISON. It could just from the sheer toll of it all, fighting the mutos, utilising his atomic breath, chasing the mutos across the pacific, I mean he's drowsy, he's been asleep for hundreds of millions of years!

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-17-2014 8:23 AMi love the idea of godzillas fins working as solar panels. very nice theory madison

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-17-2014 8:41 AMI just think he was exhausted by fighting two monsters at once and just needed to rest. XD

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-17-2014 9:19 AMI honestly thought he was taking a nice nap.
But that's an interesting way to put it.

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-17-2014 9:20 AMMy thought was after the fight and the use of his atomic breath it took alot out of him and his body needed to recoup a bit. It could be also that while fighting the mutos who absorb radiation maybe the absorbed some of his and weakened him during the fight.

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-17-2014 9:54 AMHave to agree with DAIKAIJU_DANEILLE on this godzilla got into a two on one fight, brutally got his ass kicked and then had a buliding collapse on him so yeah I think godzilla would take a nap after all of that.

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-17-2014 8:36 PMThat's a good possible theory but I think he was just tired by chasing mutos for a few days without pause, getting hit with a swarm of missles by military after just rising from ocean, fighting them both at the same time when one is as big as him and the other can fly, getting stabbed, getting crushed by a building.......

MemberMothra LarvaeJun-08-2014 12:54 PMI thought it was pretty obvious that he fainted due to the injuries he sustained from the MUTOs' brutal beatdown on him, and he woke up due to regenerating the wounds, perhaps aided by absorbing radiation from the dead MUTOs and the nuke.
