This thread is mainly for discussion on HOW we are talking about the 2014 movie, rather than a discussion the movie itself.

I have read several threads recently, which bothered me with how deconstructive they have been, so I just wanted to make a push to make things more reasonable.

HOPEFULLY, this will be a civil discussion, but if it detoriates, or it is somehow deemed 'unnecessary' or offtopic, and needs to be closed. I'll accept that.

But I just wanted to say somethings first:

1. There is no need to be rude or disrespectful over a disagreement. I feel like this should be obvious, but sadly it's not. People are personally attacking each other over having different points of view. And if this were some important topic like religion, or politics, I could understand (I still wouldn't agree, but I would understand). But there NOTHING about Godzilla 2014 that warrants insulting another human being, regardless of who is right vs. wrong.

Please people, if somebody disagrees with you, keep in mind:

2. People need to put more THOUGHT into their posts.

Way too much of what gets posted here is just sheer gullibility, laziness, or some combination of the two. That's part of why aggressive responses have become the norm. I mean, I do think people should always RESPECTFULLY disagree if they happen to disagree. But even I have to admit, it's hard to RESPECTFULLY disagree to a post that doesn't look like it was made with any effort.

When people are creating entire threads just to ask silly/mundane questions that would take a trivial amount of effort to answer in a self-sufficient manner...it's frustrating. Or when people are being excessively gullible, and just regurgitating information at face value, while giving it no critical analysis.

This has been happening on every topic from time zones to trailer leaks and it needs to stop.

Who is RIGHT vs. WRONG is irrelevant here. I see so much chest thumping where both people in an argument go: "I'm gonna laugh so hard when I turn out to be right HAR HAR HAR"......like one of them is going to be right.....due to sheer luck, but neither person deserves a victory lap.

I am MUCH more willing to respect a post, which I think is WRONG, but it looks well thought out, and has good reasons behind it, than a post I AGREE with, but is nothing more than a link to a website or picture with the OP saying nothing more than tantamount to: "See, it has to be true because the website said so"......even if the website is correct......there still needs to be some evidence of a human thought process.

It's like the analogy they do with the Space Shuttle: Before a shuttle launch, there is a pre-launch checklist that pilots have to go through before they can take off. Realistically speaking, you can SKIP a large number of the things on the checklist, and the shuttle will still launch successfully. That doesn't mean skipping the steps was a good idea. In fact, it's a terrible idea, regardless of the end result.

Lot's of people on here (including the admins sometimes) HAVE NO CHECKLIST. They just....post....things...and give them weight, with no clear evidence or reason why. Accurate or not, this NOT OKAY.

I dunno....that's all I really got for now. Right or Wrong, I feel like if a larger number of posters did more critical thinking and just generally were more polite, I feel like it would make these forums a better place.

Anyways, that's all I got for now.

P.S. Shout out to GMAN2887 for being the most reasonable guy I've seen on these forums. If you guys want an example of how do it right, look to his posts. I don't always agree with him, in fact, some of his ideas come out of left field for me personally. But he has definitely put THOUGHT into almost every post I've seen so far. He's even brought up facts and perspectives in multiple threads which I hadn't known/considered before. And his posts are polite 90%-95% of the time, no matter what point of view he is taking. Whether you agree or disagree with is points...his CONDUCT is basically exactly what I'm talking about.

I'm not saying GMAN2887 is the ONLY person on the forums who acts like this. Please don't interpret this as he's the only one doing it right and everyone else is doing it wrong. That's not what I'm saying. He's just the first example that comes to mind.

Anyways, yeah, keep it real G-Fans and have a nice night :-)

I 100% agree with you Madison. but today, i saw a discussion i got overly excited on and lashed out on Akagi. I think it was partially a misunderstanding on how he was worded everything and the fact i was frustrated it wasn't something legit and said somethings that were a little harsh. but after seeing his reply, I immediatly apologized and told him why i had said what i did and hopefully he saw it before the topic was closed. i kinda feel like this right now: confessabear from spongebob

Thing is @AKAGI is too aggressive for example on that forum about the atomic roar toy, he talks saying that the Brazil promo face is the final design, I responded by saying it doesn't look like it, compare it to the empire cover it looks like it wasn't finished, what does he say 'it is the final design, deal with it' thats not the whole quote but it was a immature response despite the fact I used other evidence to back me up (I'll probably need to edit this as I am on my phone)

EDIT:forget what i said, it was early in the morning and i thought he was talking to me, he was talking to someone else who thought that toy was fake

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Any personal attacks I see I'll step in, I even screen cap it for evidence. The personal attacking isn't that bad, but regardless it shouldn't be happening and it won't be tolerated. This is a forum, so you can't prevent threads from being made, even if they lack thought. This site is starting to see more and more users each day. Any thread we see as pointless/off-topic/assaulting/ect  or a clear re-post will be closed. I do agree with you, people need to be more civil during the debates.

Personally didn't see a problem but I don't use the 2014 section that much. Maybe people are just more civil in the classics section

Well, I for one am glad most people don't pay much regard to what I've posted before, even if I did put a lot of thought into some of them. Better to be ignored than scolded at, I guess. Either way, it'll be a VERY long two more months of waiting for the upcoming movie. My nostrils, my mouth, my gills, my dorsal spikes, my tail, my eyes, my ultra-hard skin, my enormous stature and proportions that don't falter under their own weight, and my atomic heart are all just itching to see what happens next.

P.S. I'm not saying I'm Godzilla in that little blurb in the end. I;m just that weird of a person.

I'd settle for just a lack of condescension on the part of some members. This is about a movie, not snobbery...

Thanks Madison, but it's probably closer to 80-85% of the time. ;)

As far as the forum goes, even if some posters are aggressive, (I can be aggressive as well) I can typically look past it as long as they're trying to make some sort of external point. If some people make posts that are only used to be insulting, and have nothing to do with the movies, that's something else entirely.

My main issue about the forum is the number of repeat topics and solo topics that could've been brought up in other threads. I think InstinctiveGigan did a pretty good job of nailing down duplicate topics for a few hours after the new trailer was released, but he can't be everywhere at once.

All these topics I've listed are about details people noticed in the new trailer that could have easily been put in one, single topic:

1)"Guys! I Noticed Another Brief Glimpse of the Flying Monster,"

2)"Main Godzilla Trailer Observations,"

3) "13 Million,"

4) "15 Years Ago,"

5) "I'm Really Surprised at the Popularity of Godzilla Since the Main Traler's Release,"

6) "Godzilla Trailer Breakdown with Gareth Edwards,"

7) "Godzilla 2014 Analysis: Flying Muto is of Pterandodon Species?"

8) "Flying Muto Powers,"

9) "Godzilla Haters are no Match for Us,"

10) "Godzilla Fan Freaks Out with Main Trailer,"

11) "Something That Serizawa Said,"

12) "Were We Going to Get a 90 Sec Trailer Cut,"

13) "Muto Looks Like Rodan in the New Trailer,"

14) "Godzilla Red Glow?"

15) "So Who or What Woke Up Godzilla?"

16) "The Shobijin in the New Trailer?"

17) "What did you Think of the CG in the New Trailer?"

18) "The Water Scene, I Have Seen it Before,"

19)"Better Look at Muto Monster (?)"

20) "Things I Noticed in the New Trailer,"

21) "Some Point I Have to Make + New Trailer Discoveries,"

22) "Statue of Liberty?"

23) "4M Views in Less Than 24 Hours,"

24) "Odd Shot from the New Trailer,"

25) "So What Are Your Thoughts on the Part in the Trailer Where You See that Bomb Wrapped Up in Slime?"

26) "How Every Godzilla Fan Should Feel After that Trailer,"

27) "Monster Paths and Scene Speculation,"

28) "Godzilla 2014 Trailer 2 Muto Claw,"

29) "My Godzilla Trailer Experience,"

30)"Possible Nod to Edward's First Film,"

I'm not even including the closed topics. The point is all the comments in the first posts of the threads I listed were directly inspired by the second trailer and barely held a conversation of their own. The proof is that most of these topics barely got past 5 replies and were quickly forgotten. Everything mentioned in every single one of those threads is relevant to the trailer and could've inspired conversation in a single, specific "Godzilla Trailer 2" thread. There's no reason to create sub-categories of every little thing on here.

Another example is we don't need specific topics about Godzilla's gills, or chest, or feet, or spines, or tail or...etc... There's nothing wrong with simply talking about all of those features in one, single, "Godzilla's New Design" thread.

I'm also a member at Monster Zero. They have a thread where they talk about all of this stuff in a single topic. It's called "Godzilla 2014 Part 3" (parts one and two got closed for going too long and eventually getting out of hand). "Godzilla 2014 Part 3" has 7230 replies. The conversation has been solidified into that one thread and it has been very fruitful! It's still going strong.

Now I don't expect this forum to do the same exact thing. There's a lot of youngsters on here and they like to have their voice heard. But there's no reason to have so many topics based and inspired by the exact same thing. "Godzilla Red Glow" and "Shobijin in the New Trailer" are details that were noticed in the recent trailer. They could have been mentioned in an official trailer 2 thread and added to that conversation. There was no reason for them to have their own threads that only inspired a handful of replies.

This kind of thing clutters the forum to such a degree that I tend to not want to post for awhile. When I saw so many duplicate topics and ideas, I decided I'd just come back when the hype after the trailer died a little bit. It wasn't worth swimming through 30 sub-topics that didn't go anywhere. (Even though I just did to prove a point...)

But that's me...

I think I'm on board with some of what you said @GMAN2887 To start, I think I'm going to make a thread and sticky it "Godzilla Main Trailer Discussion"

Best of luck Jordan. I think one of the problems is that the number of duplicates tend to outnumber the mods. It's noone's fault really, we all have lives outside this forum. It's simply that a mop-up crew for this forum has their work cut out for them.

Just a question. I'm not saying your acusing me or anything but but have I been one of those bad people you have a problem with. Please be honest so if I am I can attempt to tone my behavior down a bit. It can't be toned down completely but at least a tiny bit.  :)

Also there are some things in your post I object. Respectfully sir I think we as G fans have the right to express anger, share are disagreements, and the thing about people having to give reasons why they said something in their post everytime they post is ridiculas. With all do respect sir I think we all think before we post and I don't think you have the right to tell us check our grammer before we post. A post is a post and you shouldn't tell us what to put in our post and how to post it. I hope you can understand knowing that i'm not trying to start anything here, I say this with respect and peace. :)

@Gojira 2014

It's fine to be outraged if you don't like something or praise something else. Passion is a good thing, but it's the way people are complaining and praising that's stirring up trouble. People don't need to take it so personally.

Posts also need to be regulated, which is a bigger problem. If you're posting a topic that could easily be added to another existing topic or just creating a duplicate, there's no point in that.

Gman2887@ Hmmm good thinking.

I don't take things too personally. But remember there are some members on this site who devote their lives too godzilla. Godzilla collecters and fans are the most common. Godzilla does mean a lot to me so I take him like half and half personally. Alsi I'm starting a campaign to be nicer to people because my temper isues have become an illnes now and my parents are starting to realize that its making me unhealthy so i'm putting effort to be less agresive. I said this to BigBadBen already but I have this thing were my emotions trigger by how fast my heart beat is and yesterday I was in SUCH a bad moood that I actually had to go to the hospital from passing out from stress while I was doing homework. So yeah I now understand that I have a limit on how mad I can get. My docter said that I should try holding my breath or breathing really hard if my heart rate goes up. Sorry for that pointless fact but alot of members have been asking me what my deal is. Even though I shouldn't be sharing that with people I just thought it was time for some G fans to finally learn why i'm always so stubborn :D

Sorry to butt in on that Gojira2014, but as a nursing student I don't understand the logic behind holding your breath when your heartrate increases. The heartrate is pumping blood which carries oxygen to centers, mainly your brain in this instance, so to hold your breath when your blood is pumping faster through your body, perplexes me as it's known that holding your breath to begin with increases heartrate so to hold it when it's already higher than average just doesn't make sense to me. Granted he is a doctor and has much much more schooling than I could ever want to take, and I don't know the whole story but still.

Anyway sorry to get off topic from the issue

@Godzillafan1995

Way to name-drop. I get it, you don't like the fact that I'm right. I'm not here to make enemies, if I come off as paumpus, its only because I disagree with you. I've seen people be way meaner to me and Gman and you never attacked them for being aggressive, usually because they agreed with you. Its all good until someone says something that you disagree with, then they're a jerk I guess.

Regardless, the Brazil photo is completely relevant, it is the final design, and its part of the advertising campaign. it represents the final design. You saw one magazine cover from a different angle and lighting and decided that the design you didn't like is no longer relevant. Do you see how that paumpus attitude can fuel a paumpus reply from me?

What you're seeing with this Godzilla, the brazil and the magazine, is what I like to call the 'selfie effect'. Take a picture of yourself from an down angle, in the bathroom, with good lighting. Then have someone take a picture of you from a down angle, in a dark room, with ambient lighting. You'll look completely different.

I get a bit annoyed that you're assuming that the design you don't like-- that is like plastered on... I dunno, half a dozen boxes now, probably going to be on hundreds of things when the film finally comes out-- is falsehood because you saw one magazine cover from a different angle with different lighting.

The Godzilla i've seen in the trailers, magazine, and brazil photo all look the same to me, but from different angles, perspectives, and lighting. When I've explained this to you, I dunno, a hundred times in the past, you continue to come back with your argument which is based completely on one. magazine. cover.

A magazine render which is obviously a cgi render vs a toy box illustration. They are not going to produce hundreds of boxes with a design on it that does not represent the final product. Just because you've seen Godzilla from like 3 different angles and he doesn't look as sweet or kind as he did in the brazil photo-- it doesn't equate to you being right or me being wrong. They aren't going to use that design all over the boxes if it wasn't the final design.

I'm sorry you don't like it, and I'm sorry me correcting you comes off as brash and rude, I can't help that. No way to say what someone doesn't wanna hear without upsetting them.

Now that i've gone out of my way to explain myself, I'm officially closing this discussion with you Godzillafan1995. If you wanna be passive aggressive about it and namedrop, please do it somewhere I'm not going to see it.

As for everyone else in this thread, I agree completely-- but I doubt the offenders are going to even read everyone's massive walls of text (Mine included) and find nothing more than reasons to be angry at you and challenged by your intelligence. Mostly what we are fighting here is common sense and perspective vs wishful thinking and over-excitedness. I don't think we are going to win. Expect lots of "OMG EBIRAH IS IN THE MOVIE" or "Godzilla is eight hundred feet tall" kind of posts in the future, regardless of whether or not these people have been proven wrong a thousand times in the past.

He is 350ft Tall people, those things on his neck ARE gills, and the Brazil photo is part of the final advertising design-- Deal with it.
