MemberMothra LarvaeApr-21-2014 8:46 PMSo I remember in a Godzilla interview way back when where Gareth mentioned a possible sequel done DAM style. If this holds to be true someday what will become Monster island? A fictional landmass or something more akin to the zones in Gareth's Monsters film. I apologize in advance if this thread is treading all too familiar ground. I poked around a bit but I didn't see anyone's threads address this topic.

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-21-2014 9:02 PMIf there's a sequel using a Monster Island concept I highly doubt they'll go with it, since for a serious themed setting that just sounds silly. My guess is that (If they really want to use all those TOHO monsters) they would just kick the story up with all the kaijus attacking worldwide cities and have a plot about Godzilla awakening to face them and wreck stuff up once more.
However even this is overblown, you can't cram too many eggs in one basket, it's loud, messy and too confusing. I doubt Gareth will take this concept far, it's likely he just answered out of personal hype.

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-21-2014 9:10 PM@THE WEAVER - Good point. And as for overstuffed films, well, audiences worldwide are no strangers to that concept, how its executed is all that matters in the end. Besides, if Gareth can get a proper script for it and it gets green-lit its a rap. Seeing how Pacific Rim performed in the box office sporting a similar concept to DAM with world wide mayhem and numerous monsters and mechs I can pretty much assume that there is an auidence out there craving that sort of film. I guess it comes down to this movie's performance and what fans want next. If you're right though I'll be dissapointed in Gareth.

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-21-2014 9:45 PMI think that Edwards say that, just to avoid any deep question about the movie and to divert the attention from its hidden details.
Final Wars approached that stile and the result was a long 2 hrs movie with less than 40 minutes of Godzilla on screen. It is like to say that “The Dark Knight 4” will present, in less than 2 hours, the full game of Arkham asylum.

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-21-2014 9:55 PM@GUATEGOJIRA - Well I suppose its time to cram everything we possiby can into the next Godzilla film Man of Steel 2 style ;] But seriously, if it happens, you're right, everythings gonna be stuffed in worse than 12 sardines in a Starbucks coffee straw and probably with a run time less than 2 hours for budget restrictions that may resort from shoehorning in the entire G universe with all that grade-A cgi Gareth has access to now.

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-22-2014 12:10 AMI think it would be interesting if the governments of the world cordoned off a section of islands, (maybe the phillipines), and put monsters there. That could create an interesting scenario where people are forced out of their land and they might even fight back. I would say several islands would be needed because these creatures are huge.

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-22-2014 5:34 AMIf this concept were to come to fruitation, I am very confident it will be done in a Monsters-esque way.
Taking place a few years after the initial attacks, the kaiju will have been quarantined, and aggression levels are high. Very. High.

MemberTitanosaurusApr-22-2014 6:51 AMI hope they have a Godzilla sequel with Monster Island. It's a great way to introduce a lot of Kaiju, old and new. Some likely residents may include Anguirus and Rodan. Maybe even Kamacuras and Kumonga (the only spider I like). The idea of a sequel with Monster Island will surely be a good one. Perhaps in the sequel (if there is one, we need to see how well this one does), Monster Island would be created in the end with just a few Monsters. Then in the 3rd movie (if there is one, again, we need to see how well this one does), Monster Island will be full of Monsters. We can only hope.

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-22-2014 9:06 AMGood talk everyone! I was starting to think there were only a few of us that had faith that a monster island could work in the sequel.@SOMETHING REAL - Implying Monster island won't be sealed off by a wall of Godzilla's ;)
@DC67 - Dude! Gabera's design was too boss! Didn't he have some lightning based melee going on? I don't remember. Even so, Godzilla still applied that sweet beatdown to the poor newb.

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-22-2014 10:04 AM@Something Real and Kage432, yes for both! Underrated monster that would be served well w/ a remake and updates.

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-22-2014 12:36 PMI think if they do go this way with the monster island idea then I would say there should be six monsters, besides godzilla i would say the second and thrid should be old monsters, the fourth and fifth should be new monsters, and the sixth could go either way, then build on that idea.
