Something Supernatural?

Something Real

Hello there. Over the past few weeks of going over the various articles, threads, and previews, I've begun to formulate a question I believe merits some attention. Is it possible that the Godzilla within Edwards' upcoming film will have something supernatual about him? I'm not talking about ghosts or magic, or anything glaringly overt or silly; I'm talking about the subtle tinge of the unknown. Perhaps Godzilla truly is linked to the Earth (Mother Nature) in some fundamental way that makes him a physical manifestation of our world's rage. Perhaps that's how he can draw forth massive tidal waves and create such immense and lasting destruction despite his singular nature. Of course, this girl doesn't expect to see this answered in the film. Quite the contraray - I hope it isn't. That being said, do you think this is at all possible? As always, your thoughts and conjecture on this topic are most appreciated, even if you choose to keep them to yourself. :)

I agree that a subtle supernatural twist would be....interesting. Nothing blatantly obvious like GMK but something like an eerie undertone.

To be honest I would prefer no supernatural elements to be in this film.

GOJIFAN - I agree with your assessment; something slightly eerie would be quite compelling. DEADIT KAIJU - I understand your standpoint whole-heartedly. A dash of something supernatural could very well ruin the film if it isn't treated with the utmost care. Thus, it may be better if such a premise isn't brought into the film at all. Thank you for your conecture. :)

I'd say that rather than Godzilla himself being presented in such a light, the aftermath he leaves in his wake should incite such beliefs in people. Humans tend to wanna explain the unexplainable in any way they can, for comfort, security, sanity, whatever. Thus, believing that Godzilla's wrath has some sort of supernatural/divine intervention sort of deal going on will help ease people's minds at the thought of this being simple rage by an animal whom wishes it upon us for encroaching on HIS territory. They wanna believe that it isn't their own fault for these events, or that it's a very specific type of people's fault.

SOMETHING REAL - I like the idea and for the most part agree with what THEGMAN123 says. I forgot where I read that when the Godzilla species roamed the earth the radiation levels were 10% more then modern times. It's possible the use of his atomic breath or even his presence could effect the balance of nature in some way. In the end I do hope that the "lesson" he teaches huminaty will change our relationship with nature.

Well yeah, OP. Wasn't there always this undertone about Godzilla representing nature in some way, as you said. Not necessarily in-your-face supernatural stuff, but more a representation of nature's wrath. Instead of an earthquake, hurricane or volcanic eruption, you get a more animalistic manifestation.

As for supernatural stuff, the Mothra series had more overt magical quality to it as did some of the Gamera entries. If we add wizards, spells and and stuff like that, we'll be moving into Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter territory. And kaijus would become merely dragons (i.e. Smaug) to be slayed.

I'm not personally against some supernatural touches to the Godzilla series (after all, that has existed in one form or another in a number of the Toho entries), With the right direction, some supernatural element in the film could work. But I prefer they tread lightly on it and not overdo it too much.

Actually I think this is kinda out of place for the actual elements of the movie. What you are mentioning reminds me more Daimajin series

At the start, I thought it would have been a bit interesting if Godzilla brought some religious themes to the table like the comic con teaser where there was mention of Vishnu and such. It would be cool if, at the very least it was hinted that Godzilla was a manifestation of some God of destruction, appearing that way to a variety of different religions as whatever fit in their lore. Symbolic of course, not something that would be flat out revealed. I guess it's all about interpretations in the end. People will see what they want to see in this.

KAGE432 - That's an interesting bit of information you've brought! I've seen a few things mentioning what you've just stated - I find it most compelling! :)

SOMETHING REAL - Compelling Indeed. We'll have to wait and see what happens. Supernatural or not, Godzilla will be a monster far beyond what the characters understand, and from what I can tell of the new synopsis on the official Godzilla site, he has a larger role to play in the grand scheme of things than some mere mutated creature set lose on the world. Returning balance to the world would imply Godzilla to be nature's protector or perhaps something more akin to a reset button on us humans lol.
