MemberMothra LarvaeJan-27-2014 4:10 PMStory: had good potential and bulid up with hiding full design of the creatures design till ~42 minutes into the movie, but after the design reveal the movie starts to go down hill with stuipid incompitant military statagey, an asexual reproducing godzilla (WTF) and the most boring love story which has no link to the main plot.
Special Effects: for a late 90's movie, the cgi is good, altough jurrasic parks's was by far the most superior that is because of it's blend of pratical and cgi effects, the cgi of the monster is very good compared to some cgi dependant movies today.
Music: there is hardly any music, and music is an important element in a godzilla movie is the music, the music is either not there , is typical music or is so quiet you can barley hear. (one thing that most people never really compalined about)
Creature/s design: The godzilla creature is an embarrasment to the franchise due to having the name 'Godzilla' while it may seem like a godzilla like creature to a typical movie goer it just isn't a godzilla, it deserves to be called zilla. however as a monster he/she or it has a very sleek and quite unique design, it is way too fast as a giant monster. the babies were unnessory, their role was to get this movie into sequels (evident in the ending of the movie)
Overall: if it wasn't godzilla it would probably been liked a 'slightly' more, however it is called godzilla, but if you take off the godzilla goggles off and see this a a typical mosnter then it looks very different to the 50's style giant monster movies alo this movie is what introduced me to the godzilla franchise and honestly i quite liked it as a kid, note that this movie got more exposure than the toho godzilla with the exception of a limited amont of VHS godzilla movies by channel 4.
Effect on New Movie: one bad movie has been done, it saves the production team the worry from having to 'learn from your mistakes' the production must have known what the movie got wrong and either corrected and improved what 1998 got wrong and so far it seem that is exactly what has happened, this must show that even if this movie is either a failure (quite unlikly) or not liked by critiques it will still be better than what tri-star did with godzilla. In essence tri-star has saved legendary the trouble of a terrible godzilla movie.

I agree about the babies being a terrible addition to the movie, and in my opinion, what runis it as a movie. I don't go to a kaiju movie to watch little monsters run around!
Anyway, that's what I hope this new movie learns, little monsters (in my opinion) have no place in a kaiju movie. If you can't make the monsters seem threatening without making them people sized, you have failed at making the movie. Cloverfield had little monsters, and they ruined it (terrible camera work, acting, and characters aside). I guess whay I'm saying is, if MUTO's are only people sized, or even just a little bigger (car sized), i'm going to be upset. It just shows that the writers/directors did not have what it takes to make a larger, building sized, monster menacing to the characters. To me it means that they failed. All I can think of when little monsters are introduced is "Jurrasic Park wannabe."

True American Godzilla
MemberMothra LarvaeJan-27-2014 6:13 PMThe 1998 Godzilla film, just looking at it as a generic Monster Movie, was fairly good. The main problem is indeed the stupid American Military and that the monster was called Godzilla despite not being one. Its look was cool and I think it could have worked had the monster the same Gojira abilities in addition to its other traits.
As for the impact on the upcoming American Godzilla, it did show what to do and not do for American-fying Godzilla. The TriStar folks went the wrong direction with a more realistic desgin. Legendary Pictures, like what I would do, took the classic Gojira and pondered on how to make it more realistic yet dangerous/powerful. While Zilla was cool looking it had 0 Gojira designs traits. The American Godzilla keeps the basic Gojira traits yet make the overall design better.
Basically the American Zilla and its film was a proto-type or experiment, from that the American Godzilla will sure to be victorious, both in combat and by being loved by the fans.
I believe in Jesus Christ, who's my Lord and Savior.

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-28-2014 12:58 PMalso there is nothing wrong with little monsters, it's just that the baby godzilla's were a rip off aliens, also godzilla's son has always been adopted, godzilla has never had a biological son, the fact that godzilla even reproduces is the main point of conceren with this movie.
