It's nothing too revealing, but Toho are gearing up for their return with Godzilla in 2016. The studio who owns the rights to Godzilla had remained fairly dormant since 2004, not releasing any new Godzilla movies in over 10 years. Instead they licensed the rights to Godzilla to Legendary Pictures. With the massive success Godzilla (2014) brought to the table, last month Toho announced that they would be releasing their own new Godzilla movie in 2016 - two years before Legendary's Godzilla 2014 sequel hits theaters.
Up until now, Toho has remained fairly quiet about its return to the fracnhise they created. But today we got our first look at a promotional banner the studio released to help hype up fans for Godzilla's next appearance:
Though the banner itself doesn't reveal any information about the 2016 film, it does show that the studio is quite enthusiastic to be making Godzilla movies again.
Fans have been busy speculating on the plot synopsis for Godzilla 2016 in the Godzilla movie forums. Join the discussion if you're looking forward to Toho's next Godzilla movie as well!
Would you like it if the 2016 Godzilla looked like this?
This film is not to be confused with Legendary's Godzilla sequel which will hit theaters in June of 2018. The titles will likely be completely unrelated from eachother. What we know about Legendary's next Godzilla film is that it will contain a Destroy All Monsters style plot, including three classic Kaiju from Toho's original series; Rodan, Mothra and Ghidorah. We also know Gareth Edwards will be returning to direct once he wraps up filming his Star Wars spin-off.
