Anime News Network has reported the explosive news that Toho will be planning a new Godzilla film for 2016. Hot off the heels of the 2014 film's success, Toho will be combining a team that will start production summer of next year.
August Ragone's The Good, The Bad and The Godzilla confirms this report comes from reputable Japanese sources, Nikkei and Eiga.com. Ragone translated some information himself:
"The screenplay is currently in development and we plan to start shooting next summer. We cannot announce cast or staff selections at this time. And we’re still deliberating whether to bring Godzilla to life via CGI or man-in-suit,” said Taiji Ueda who will serve as project leader.

The film will not be in continuity with Gareth Edwards' Godzilla, but rather a stand alone movie not unlike the Millennium Godzilla films. (Although it's too early to say if it will have sequels in direct continuity.) This will mark the first instance of two Godzilla series, started by two different countries, thriving at the same time.
One has to wonder if Toho will do things differently than they did in the 90s and 00s. The studio has gone through several changes since 2004 and surely understand they gain nothing by treading on the same production schedule that helped torpedo the last few films. ...Right?
Paint me excited at the moment. The wait for Gareth Edwards' Godzilla 2 won't be quite as rough with Toho stepping in to keep Godzilla's popularity in the spotlight. It will be wonderful to see Godzilla come home again. I eagerly await the next Japanese era of Godzilla's career.
The next Godzilla film is slated for 2016. Gareth Edwards' Godzilla 2 will be released in 2018.
