August Ragone has just reported on his website that Shin-Gojira, or as we've recently adopted, Shin-Godzilla, now has an English title for overseas release: Godzilla Resurgence. This will no doubt please fans who have been confused by the Shin in the Japanese title (which is still Shin-Gojira) and believe that the literal translation subverts the 2014 film. (Shin can be roughly translated as "new", "true" and "god")
Mr. Ragone explains that the information comes from the American Film Market where a Godzilla Resurgence promo was screened for potential overseas distributors. You can read more information about AFM and current details regarding the promo on The Good, the Bad and the Godzilla.
Below is an image of the AFM booklet featuring information about the promo. The image comes from Mr. Ragone's website:
Fans are likely to note that Toho is billing this as the 29th film, not the 31st . While ignoring the 1998 movie likely won't hurt many feelings, I'm sure some fans are slightly miffed at 2014 supposedly not being included. Yet it's worth noting that the full promo reads, “The 29th Godzilla Film Godzilla Resurgence presented by Toho”. The “presented by Toho” portion clarifies where they're coming from as neither the 1998 or 2014 films were Toho productions.
Special thanks to HugeBen for the heads up.
