Last November writer/director Kazuki Omori passed away from leukemia at the age of 70. The filmmaker had a lengthy career in film, encompassing a great deal more than the kaiju genre. Fans best know him as the writer and director for Godzilla vs. Biollante (1989) and Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991). He would also go on to write Godzilla vs. Mothra (1992) and the Heisei series finale Godzilla vs. Destoroyah (1995). His contributions to the franchise helped shape the Heisei Godzilla series.
At the 46th Japanese Academy Awards, Omori was one of six recipients to receive the Special Award from the Chairman. Honoring Omori's career, the Academy included his name as a highlight for notable works in Japanese cinema.
The 46th Japanese Academy Awards is where Shin Ultraman (2022) also took home four awards.
Congratulations to his surviving family that were able to see this honor.
