Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is currently playing in theaters and had a record-breaking Thursday night preview for the Monsterverse, beating Gareth Edwards' preview night record for Godzilla (2014)! The film continues to track upward, GxK is currently at a projected $67 Million weekend take, keeping pace behind Godzilla (2014)'s 3-day opening weekend take of $91 Million. The film is generating Warner Brothers and Legendary a healthy return on their investment - which also was the lowest budget so far for a Monsterverse movie!
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire cost WB and Legendary a total of $135 Million to produce (nearly 10 times the budget of Toho's Godzilla Minus One). But while it cost a substantially higher amount to produce than Godzilla Minus One, it cost a significantly less amount compared to previous Monsterverse installments.
For comparison, the other Monsterverse movies cost:
- Godzilla - $160 million
- Kong: Skull Island - $185 million
- Godzilla: KOTM - $170-$200 million
- Godzilla vs. Kong - $155 million
Godzilla x Kong is on track to be a financial success for the studios if momentum keeps up, which is potentially good news for Adam Wingard, who already has plans for a Godzilla x Kong sequel if given the opportunity.
