A couple of days ago it was revealed that Godzilla: Tokyo SOS (2003), the 28th overall film in the franchise (27th Toho movie), would be making its US theatrical debut this March. Cinemark's listing for the film features the "added value" of Godzilla vs. Gigan Rex included in the screening.
The Gemstone/Toho production for the CG short, Godzilla vs. Gigan Rex, is an officially backed sequel to the 2019 fan film, G vs. G. Directed by Takuya Uenishi, the short was created in honor of Gigan's 50th anniversary and debuted at Godzilla Festival 2022 this past November.
This seems to be consistent with Toho's US screening strategy. The Godzilla vs. Hedorah short, from 2021's Godzilla Fest, and an accompanying behind-the-scenes feature played before Godzilla x MechaGodzilla's (2002) US screening last November.
You can watch the full Godzilla vs. Gigan Rex short below. But be sure to catch it on the big screen with Masaaki Tezuka's tour de force, Godzilla: Tokyo SOS.
Reportedly, Godzilla: Tokyo SOS is scheduled for March 22nd and March 25th, 2023. You can look out for showtimes on AMC's website here. And also be sure to keep an eye out for Fathom Events' official announcement.
