Godzilla legacy actor Akira Takarada has passed away at age 87.

It is with heavy hearts that today we must report the unfortunate passing of the legendary actor Akira Takarada...

Takarada was a prominent Japanese actor who played in a number of Godzilla films over the years, from the 1954 original to Godzilla: Final Wars and even a (deleted) scene in Gareth Edwards' Godzilla (2014). He passed away today at age 87.

Rest in peace Akira, you will be missed.

Absolutely a monumental loss to the world. Takarada was the face of the franchise. His joy for the series, its fans and his co-filmmakers will be forever missed.

I hate this so much--For his family, his fans and the franchise, which will never shine quite as bright without his enthusiasm.
