Variety confirmed international star Zhang Ziyi, best known for her role as Yu Jiaolong in Ang Lee's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000), has joined the impressive cast of Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Ziyi will reportedly have a prominent role as a Monarch representative.
As the news broke, director Michael Dougherty left a cryptic comment on Twitter, "Myth is our compass," and tagged Monarch Sciences--Seemingly confirming her 'key role' with the organization. The Hollywood Reporter claims Ziyi's deal is a multi-picture contract, suggesting she may appear in Godzilla vs. Kong as well.
Ziyi joins Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things), Kyle Chandler (Super 8, Friday Night Lights), Vera Farmiga (The Departed), O'Shea Jackson (Straight Outta Compton), Aisha Hinds (If I Stay), Anthony Ramos (Hamilton), Charles Dance (Game of Thrones), Randy Havens (Stranger Things), Sally Hawkins (Godzilla), Ken Watanabe, (Godzilla), Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley) and Bradley Whitford (Get Out, West Wing). The film will be directed by Michael Dougherty from his screenplay co-written by Zach Shields. Alex Garcia is producing.
