Alien Franchise Creature Artist Joins Godzilla 2

Confirmed by director Michael Dougherty's Twitter handle, Academy Award Winning* creature effects artist Tom Woodruff Jr. will be designing monsters for 2019's Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Since 1986's Aliens, Woodruff has been known for bringing the xenomorphs to life in the Alien franchise. (Sans Alien: Covenant.) He's since become the go-to man for creature effects and designs, working on beasts from Tremors (1990), Mortal Kombat (1995), Jumanji (1995), Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters (2013) and many others.

Although details surrounding what he will design remain unconfirmed, it is known that Rodan, Mothra and King Ghidorah will appear in the sequel. From there, it doesn't take much to connect the dots--Unless of course Godzilla's look is also getting a tune-up.

What do you think of Mr. Woodruff being a part of Godzilla: King of the Monsters? Are you impressed with his prior work? Do you think he'll do Toho's most popular kaiju justice?

I would say.. that Godzilla.. needs no tune up.. but perhaps design tune ups on the 3 other kaiju would be in order.. and perhaps on another kaiju that we do not know about.

In skull island.. they created a new monsters.. as opposed to the traditional dinosaur... and the spider was new.. as well as the weird birds and the walking stick.. and the massive ox..but they left the squid in there as part of the original Toho take on Kong.. which was cool.

I would like nothing more than to see a new Kaiju introduced into the monsterverse. Why should Pacific Rim get all the glory for it's variety of monsters. I think there is plenty of room for a new one in Godzilla KOM... and perhaps even in the G vs K flick too. In my opinion.

As for Woodruff.. definetly a good pick in my book.. He does awesome work.

Not sure if he's still working with his partner Alec Gillis, but his/their resume is quite impressive. These guys are monster lovers and fans and do unbelievable work. This is great news.

I'm still cautiously optimistic about this, because of the first, but I'm getting more excited for it the more news I hear.

Never heard of this guy before, but from the sounds of it, he seems very good at his job.

I actually hope G gets a new look, it would make it to where all of the monsters designs are fresh.

As long as there's more definition added & all the Kaiju have a more sinister/grisly look to them I'm all in!

My only quarrel with the Godzilla 2014 design is that I think his eyes and teeth are too small. You can barely see them.

The ADI guys are awesome! They deliver great work. Godzilla himself doesn't need more work, but if they (or just Woodruff, don't know if they're both involved) do the designs for Rodan, Mothra and Ghidorah it will turn out cool for sure!

perhaps not a retooling of Godzilla's design.. but mabey.. another Godzilla (species). Since the reveal of two cave drawings (skull island) that show a Godzilla form.. but not necessarily the same G. that would be cool. just a theory though.
