I think if Kong were to win, he would only technically win. I think it would go like this:
*Kong and Godzilla fight, and Kong manages to knock out his opponent, either by punching him to the head to many times and whacking him over the head with a building/tree.
*Godzilla passes out, and Kong lets out a victorious roar before passing out himself due to his injuries.
*Later, the morning after the fight, Kong rises up from the rubble, looks upon Godzilla's wounded body, and then walks away.
*But Godzilla awakens and arises from the destruction. He and Kong stare at each other for a moment.
*They then seem to make the decision to end their fighting, and they go their separate ways. Kong beats his chest and roars, and Godzilla does the same.
I think the movie will either do this or it will have the two of them team up against a common-enemy, such as Ghidorah or Destoroyah or something.
To be honest, I loved Godzilla 2014, but I think almost everyone can admit that Skull Island was a FAR better movie.
@KingKaijuGojira It certainly appears that Legendary learned their lesson. I still have doubts as to whether Kong will beat Godzilla domestically, but this is great news for the Monsterverse!!
Always good to see the MUTOs get a little love. They were some formidable opponents with that deadly tag team going for them.
I agree with much of this list, but I would have also added Kiryu 2003 to the mix. That drill looked like it was a finisher to Godzilla. Had Kiryu not gone rogue again, I'm fairly certain G man would have perished.
Give a big thanks to China everybody X)
Domestically, Godzilla 2014 still has about $50 million more.
However, foreign revenue puts Kong on top.
Remember how Legendary was bought out by Tencent Pictures?
*gestures hands*
Tada.
I'm guessing still no word on the American Blue-Ray/DVD release of Shin Godzilla?
Well what'd you expect when Kong has more screen time in the the first 20 minutes than Godzilla had in the entire movie?
Also, I really like the font and color scheme for the Blu-ray set. The red and black, in that font, are reminiscent of theatrical posters for sci-fi films I saw while growing up. For something that is so topical and 'modern,' Shin Godzilla is refreshingly old. This is mirrored in the VFX/SFX. A preponderant use of CG, but it's looks practical.
Turns out Kong: Skull Island didn't hit $534 million this past weekend. It hit $535 million instead! ;)
To put this in perspective: It took Godzilla (2014) 15 weeks to make $529 million. Kong: Skull Island made $535 million in less than 5 weeks.
Can someone tell me what the 4-disc Toho Shin Godzilla set includes? What's in addition to the 3-disc set?
Thanks.
I hope not. I would love to see what else Legendary could do with King Kong
I belive he will, but I think that either G will end up winning or they'll have some super monster they have to fight.
Wow I'm an idiot XD, but that being said I do agree with you Gman. I would hope to see more from legendary, I'm hopeful that if they continue that they'll bring in Anguirus.
I really hope Godzilla VS Kong isn't the end, because there is still so much they can do. Why end it after only 4 movies?
Godzilla 2014 Himself,
You've been taken for a ride. Chris played one of the better April Fools articles I've seen and, clearly, some people still believe it. ;)
But... to answer your initial question, had Skull Island flopped I would have said Godzilla vs. Kong will absolutely be the last movie in the Monsterverse--Assuming it gets made at all.
But now that Kong: Skull Island has surpassed Godzilla at the worldwide box office and continues to make money--There's a chance we'll get more after Godzilla vs. Kong. Unless both Godzilla 2 and Godzilla vs. Kong tank bad for some reason.
@Godzilla 2014 himself,
Chris has in fact played a very cold hearted April fools joke on this website with that article you speak of. Damn near had me fooled to be honest.
........you're kidding me right? If not then I have been played SOOO hard
It was an April Fools Day joke
I would like to see Gigan (as a MUTO), Gamera, Destoroyah and Anguirus. In terms of Kaiju at least. But, as I stated in another topic, if Ghidorah turns out to be an alien, then that changes a lot and makes things very unpredictable. If space invaders do get involved in this series, then we could see Mecha-Godzilla or something. We don't know just yet.
I don't think the fact that he flies could be that outlandish as long as the Monsterverse continues to evolve in the direction Skull Island has set for it. If the Marvel Cinematic Universe can go from the grounded Iron Man in 2008 to the insanity of having a talking Racoon years later in Guardians of the Galaxy, then the Monsterverse can thrive off of Gamera as well.
However, I do think Gamera's ancient civilization origins would have to be implemented in order to buy how artificial the idea of a flying turtle is. Gamera: Guardian of the Universe grounded that fairly beautifully.
Ghidorah as a wyvern is an interesting concept. We'll have to see how he is played out in the movie.
Man, I just want a teaser or something just so we can have an idea of what to expect.
I mean, if Ghidorah is an alien and extra-terrestrials get involved in the MonsterVerse, then that opens up a whole new window. Suddenly monsters like Mecha Godzilla and Gigan could be feasible. But for now we have no idea what direction Legendary is going to go. It all kind of depends on Ghidorah.
Either way, love the artwork.
Yeah, I see what you guys mean. He would have to have quite some changes if he were in. I'd still like to see him, but you're right about his lack of popularity here in the states and all that.
The issue is what fundamental changes you'd have to change to Gamera. He's a giant turtle that breathes fire. Okay, that's easy enough to swallow in the Monsterverse.
He also flies using jets and can retract all limbs and fly like a flying saucer. Okay...... less easy to swallow.
Because of the kind of background that the Monsterverse has built itself on, it's hard to implement the more outlandish elements. Heck, King Ghidorah will be a hard enough sell as it is.
I resolved this issue in my own creative writing by making the setting outlandish already. The Monsterverse doesn't quite have this luxury. Hell, he'd actually probably fit in more with the Pacific Rim universe than the Monsterverse.
KAIJU-MAN257 - Welcome to SCIFIED! It is always quite nice to see new faces! With regards to your topic: I believe Gamera, if treated properly, could potentially be incorporated into the Monsterverse. However, as GMAN2887 and DRAGON KING ULTRAZERO80 have pointed out, it might not be a viable option at this point in time. Regardless, I would adore seeing Gamera in the Monsterverse! Once again, welcome to SCIFIED! :)
I'm not sure if Gamera could fit in the Monsterverse.
Welcome to the forums.
Although I don't know how plausible it is for Gamera to join the Monsterverse, it is something I'd love to see. Though, due to his popularity, (or lack there of) I don't think a solo Gamera movie would be viable.
That doesn't mean he couldn't be introduced in a different type of movie--Say a Kong or Godzilla movie where his origin is revealed, but he's not exactly the focal character/opponent--Ala, Black Panther and Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War.
Before I even saw it, the vast majority of reviews I read were positive, and even the negative had good things to say. I was just hoping it would catch on with general audiences, which it obviously has. I loved it, but I've loved other movies I thought should have crushed the B.O. (Pacific Rim, among others) and didn't, domestically anyway, so I just wasn't going to make any predictions on it.
I'm happy because it bodes well for the future of this monster verse.
It's mind blowing. It's really amazing to see the film do this well and be this successful, both domestically and abroad.
Domestically it's hit $156 million, which is nothing to sniff at right now and may be within the $170 million range before its all over. The movie has legs, which means it's liked. Legendary needs to pump out another one like this in 2019.
^Yup, you came around. Good to see.
Did I call it in my last couple of posts in this thread or what? Kong: Skull Island just surpassed Godzilla's worldwide gross of $529 million with $534 million! It will likely surpass Peter Jackson's Kong soon.
My theory on Kong growing big enough in the first place to take on Godzilla is that he'll discover a rich radiation deposit that'll allow him to grow exponentially larger.
Godzilla finds this, and now sees Kong as a threat to the balance where he wasn't before. Godzilla goes to Skull Island to nip this in the bud, but ends up accidentally killing some of the Iwi in the process. This, combined with the natural territorial nature of animals, would lead Kong into conflict with Godzilla.
Just my thoughts, though.
We really don't know what Monarch's official position is on Godzilla. They seem to be just a small "X-Files" organization. Not some grand scale conglomerate with military power like S.H.I.E.L.D. It was really just Serizawa's opinion that Godzilla was a form of natural balance.
As for the theory, I'm not sure Kong will be anthropomorphized to such an extreme. I still believe he and Godzilla will team up against another threat, but I don't think their clash will be influenced largely by man.
My top three are Rulers of Earth, Half-Century War and Legends. I wasn't a fan of either Kingdom of Monsters and the ongoing sequel.
Also, as I understand it, IDW hasn't exactly lost the rights, but due to some disputes have decided to put their Godzilla line on hiatus indefinitely. They'll probably just end letting their rights lapse as a result.
The problem with this is that Monarch sees Godzilla as a force of nature that maintains a balance, so I don't see why they want Kong to believe that the King of Monsters is bringing chaos and destruction
I have yet to read "Rage Across Time" yet, but I really want to.
