Hey I get it. Hollywood has got the big guns. they make the most profitable movies of all time and in the world. no one here can disagree with some of what your saying about Hollywood and other studios.

But I think you might just not get what the director of Shin Gojira was going for. He wanted to re-used some themes from the classic Gojira(1954) and re-purposed them for his movie. Honestly no other director of any of the Godzilla movies did that. The reason the sound fx sounded old was because it was old. Like 1954 old. Godzilla's roar, the tank firing, and some of the score where all taken from the original Gojira movie. Japan really hated what Hollywood did to their icon. So toho saw an oppurtuinty to make another great Godzilla film.

Its cool you don't like it, I'm just trying to possibly explain what you hated about the movie and put some kind of context to it. I didn't do it justice.

I love the way Toho Godzilla movies look. One thing I think that we all love about the way the classics are is that the monsters look like we can truly touch these things. they are in terms of perspective "real". In these movies there is a Godzilla suit that exists out there and we can touch it. That idea possibly makes these movies feel real to us especially as children. The new Monsterverse is great, I love it, it brought back the genre, its giving Godzilla a new stage to explore. But the old sfx gave Godzilla a flare that only Godzilla can give. G14 didn't have that flare. I feel like that theme was lost in that movie. Michael Dougherty I think might bring that flare to G:KOTM. I hope.

riggzamortis86Godzilla ForumWhat I noticed when I looked closely at Rodan's cave painting.

that would be interesting. they could just add the meganulons or some other MUTO insects to give it some ground. add some old tribe drama and BOOM, new Rodan movie. They can adopt all the old things about the original Rodan movie. They can pass this off as a sci-fi horror movie very easily.

I personally love the original Rodan film more than the original Mothra movie. There was so many attributes of the movie. There was of course the suspence, mystery, horror, action and sci-fi elements! Out of all the other Toho kaiju universe movies Rodan is on my top 5!

just watched it last night for the first time with English overdub dialogue. I missed a lot of key plot points watching it once in theaters. the characters talked so fast the subtitles kept flowing pass like crazy. I couldn't keep up. but now that I watched it again I realized how crazy powerful Shin Gojira really is!

I'm gonna have to disagree with the previous comments about wishing for more Toho movies after 2020. Shin Godzilla had some of the worst sound effects of all time and not to mention the scenes where missiles litterally just bounce off him. Really? I thought the special effects were terrible minus the night scene. Should have filmed the whole movies at night. I know a lot of G fans love shinGodzilla but not me. In fact, I walked out of the theatre the very moment a missile bounced off of Godzilla and it made a noise like a spoon hitting the floor. It was just too unrealistic for me. Now I know any monster movie is unrealistic being there's a giant monster in it, but Shin just struck me the wrong way. It felt like Toho was re using sound effects from a Mickey Mouse cartoon or something it was that bad.

Forgive me, I have been spoiled by Hollywoods top of the line special effects and sound effects. I feel as long as the Monsterverse can make it all the way to Destroy all Monsters I will be completely satisfied as a G fan, though I'd watch a million more if they are willing to make them.

As long as actual Godzilla fans are directing these American versions they will stand far above any Toho incarnation(imo) I just don't believe Toho can compete with Hollywood on any scale of movie making. I do have a bad feeling Toho is going to want Godzilla back after 2020. But why would they if these American movies have made far more than any of theirs ever have? It makes sense to me to keep making Monsterverse movies post 2020.

So they threw out his script and made the version we all saw? not all that promising. if they went with what was shown, how bad was his version?

but im sure after 20 years he knows what to do for now.

I hope they change his feet for one thing. Give the monster some scary toes. The dorsal fins must be bigger! and the fire breath must get bigger bang out of that! and make him look thinner. just because he is in the USA doesn't mean he has to look like he has been eating here too!

I may be picky but in G14 he looked and moved pretty great, but the feet! fix that asap

riggzamortis86Godzilla Minus Zero NewsGodzilla 2 Monsters: King Ghidorah origins teased in latest MONARCH viral video!

as with King Ghidorah's origins, I think the outer space monster would really open up the possibility of a expanded MonsterVerse for Godzilla's future. This same concept of a movie back with Toho (Ghidorah, The Three Headed Monster) gave Toho a direction for Godzilla to head in. (yes one can argue after the 70's that direction may have not been the best direction according to producer Tomoyuki Tananka), but after 60 years it still paid off. so giving Ghidorah a space origin would not hurt its context or the audience. The audience already can associate the monster already with aliens. Aside with the Showa series, with all the video games and comic books Ghidorah always seems to be a space monster. im sure this is going to be fun and fair to all viewers.

I loved Michael Dougherty's writing and directing. Krampus and Trick 'R Treat are some of my favorite movies featuring the way he use practical effects in them. so when I heard he is directing a Godzilla film I know this is going to be the amercian Godzilla film we all need. He Delivers In His Movies!

^I was thinking the same thing. When the news struck that she is on a popular show on AMC my first thought was "oh she is going to die real quick". It would finally squish the sexist card. seems like all the men die, not the women in these movies.

Oh! I take it back already, G14 Cranston's Brody's wife dies in the first 10 mins of the film. But we barely got to know her and care about her to make it an impact on the audience. when Cranston and Goodman both died I felt like damn! I wanted to see those characters carry out there mission in these movies.

This reminds me a lot of Biollante and SpaceGodzilla. This is a great new way of featuring Godzilla and other life forms. very cool. since 2014 we have had a new Godzilla movie almost every 18 months. and from now on until 2020 that seems to be the trend for Godzilla. and other giant monster movies.

+TherizinoRex I agree. It'll probably be three hours. Godzilla 2014 was about 2 hours long or so... and there was only two monsters. Imagine how long it would take for 4 monsters! By the way, I'm new here and I'm absolutely OBSESSED with everything Godzilla!

Yah that would be a good idea to have a Monsterverse film to focus on a paleolithic tribe trying to survive the rampage of some Kaiju.

^I agree. Rodan should be at least 275-300ft tall. make him look really scary! if hes anything below 200ft. he will look like a puss next to the other 3. I know mothra should be huge! like her wing-span be huge! The cave paintings suggest King Ghidorah might be 500ft or so tall! so Rodan should look pretty big with the rest.

riggzamortis86Godzilla Minus Zero NewsGodzilla vs. Kong Director Talks Kong's Size & Creative Process

I think they made it a good point in the original KKvG. Kong is probably a lot smarter than Godzilla. He can use tools, he's very agile and strong.

Godzilla survived a freaking A-Bomb in 1954 and again with an even bigger bomb that made him take a power nap. Kong was thwarted by napalm, and they hurt him with some heavey machine gun. Godzilla was shot point blank by tanks! Plus not to mention his atomic breath.if they make kong around 300 to 320 feet and if they give Kong a freaking sword then maybe he would have a chance. haha

so I doubt they will do the sword idea so Godzilla as of right now seems to be the bigger contender. unless in 2020 they make it a plot point that Kong can communicate with humans somewhat then maybe a Godzilla might be introuble.

I cant wait to own it tomorrow! its been over 10 months since my wife and I saw it in theaters here in the states. I read that even though it was only a limited release it still made top 20 on the charts that week!

when we saw the movie I actually felt like somewhat scared! the first time we actually see Godzilla isn't what I imagined this movie to start out with. my wife whispered over to me "WTF IS THAT!?", and my response was..."I have no F-ing idea". this movie showed Godzilla act almost completely different but I still felt like I knew this Godzilla. I loved the tanks sound just like the classic 1954 movie along with the score and Godzilla's roar.  cant wait to own it!

To comment on his new powers, they are great and fresh! I don't know why people are complaining about them as much as they are. Godzilla freaking flew around in Godzilla vs Hedorah! People got over that. He slid on his tail in Godzilla vs Megalon. then the next year later he developed a magnetizing ability to combat Mecha-g. Don't get me started in the Heisei series. but now 30 to 40 some odd years later we accepted that Godzilla changes all the time. even his appearance changes. we always just went for the ride knowing we are going to have fun!

So you can always complain now about it but 20 years from now new fans will look back on this film with a breath of fresh air and say the same things we are saying when Godzilla reaches his 50th flim and they probably give him wings or something like that. haha
