so from the angles we see of Godzilla, does he evolve from having eyes or is that just me? It looks like he evolved from having eyes, like his body is one with the planet and he see's and feels all that goes on there so his eyes just went out? since there are beings there that are 97% Godzilla maybe that's the next step? just making conversation here.
OOOOO.... I got one. Biollante=Poison Ivy. For physical and characteristic reasons. Both plant based villains. Both female counter parts of there enemy. Both have toxic tendencies in attack and character. I think Poison Ivy was a scientist? Right? or still is one?so both villains were scientists. biollante has the human spirit from Erika Shiragami. that's why I say that.
Will Netflix give us a dubbed version or a subbed version? Im guessing a subtitled version which I don't mind, but my 2 year old might be asking me questions a lot about what the hell is going on. haha cant wait! when does it come out on Netflix in November?
damn, sounds like Rodan will dominate in Mexico!
Yes, I wonder what liberates will Godzilla 2 take with Ghidorah's design?
I felt it was coming back once I saw the tweet. You just don't tease that in the Godzilla fandom.
This is a game changer.
Sci-fi Humanity + alien allies VS. one of the most unrestricted and powerful Godzilla iterations to grace us yet!
CANNOT WAIT! COME TO NETFLIX ALREADY! D:<
I guess its good to get everyone talking about a film. Throws out a dialogue.
Holy Crap it's back. The infamous weapon that killed the original and spawned his ultimate enemy is back. This just got serious.
So Freaking Awesome!
I had my doubts on the design of Godzilla for this movie after those few images made the way the tail connected to the rest of the body look really wonky, but that poster and the trailer really renewed my confidence.
It's coming out on Netflix.
Oh boy. Can't wait to see what it will be used for.
This is beautiful. Looking forward to getting this as soon as possible, God willing.
How is this to be distributed here?
This does look pretty darn good.
This. Looks. AWESOME!!!
I think the OD could be just an easter egg in the film, just like how the infinity gauntlet is an easter egg in the first Thor movie, but I could be wrong.
If they can get the Oxygen Destroyer what are the chances of the mazer cannons coming into play?
If Michael Dougherty does mention the OD at all it is probably going to be Dr. Serizawa's back story. Maybe that's the real reason Monarch wanted Dr. Serizawa on their team. Not just because his father told him secrets of the organization, and Godzilla along with other MUTO's, but because maybe Monarch learned of Dr. Serizawa's "Oxygen Destroyer", but because he knew the power of his invention was more destructive than Godzilla he kept it hidden out of Monarch's reach. Maybe that's why they ask his son to come join the team.
Still very impressive, some of these monsters have been around since the first years of cinema(with sound). For a monster to be racking in that kind of dough still is impressive. same goes for Godzilla, featuring in 30 movies and still bringing in new audiences for over 60 years is freaking impressive.
Well at that age I didn't have the internet to use to my disposal. So that book was my bible, the only thing I had to knowledge about Godzilla and other Toho movies. So to my understanding Godzilla was over. 22 movies was a lot back then!
When I think of it now its like, s#!t! No other franchise can compare to the number of Godzilla movies and time frame of those said movies! If combine all the Star Wars movies(about 9) and the Harry Potter movies(8) and all the Lord of the ring movies(6) and top it off with the Fast and the Furious Franchise(I think 8? Not a fan so I have no idea, don't feel like looking that up) you still cant touch how many Godzilla movies there are and counting! He has more movies than James Bond! So of course when Godzilla hit 22 films I thought it was a respectable time to retire the King of the Monsters. But I guess I was great-fully wrong. You cant stop a God!
Toho never really was going to end the series with Godzilla vs. Destoroyah. Their plan was to reboot the series in 2005. But after the 1998 flick was received so poorly there was a demand for the real Godzilla. So Toho accelerated their initial plan, while claiming they "always" intended for a Japanese and American Godzilla series to run at the same time. Uh-huh...
riggzamortis68,
No, that's not true. He said the first two MonsterVerse movies made more money than the first two MCU movies. Iron Man made $585 million and The Incredible Hulk made $263 million--Both world wide grosses in 2008. So the MCU's total gross after two films was $848 million. Whereas the MonsterVerse's gross after two movies is $1.1 billion. (Godzilla $529 million, Skull Island $566 million.)
Of course we're not factoring inflation and the budgets for the MonsterVerse movies were larger, so there was an expectation for them to make more money--Especially in today's cinema climate. But as it stands, the first two MonsterVerse movies have made more money than the first two MCU movies. Not the MCU as a whole.
I don't know how much that really says today. Successful franchises are always "suppose" to beat around the $1 billion mark to be called truly successful, but I've always considered that an unrealistic expectation for most blockbusters.
Well I have not seen the original version of G:2000. Still saw my first Japanese Godzilla movie tho. Pretty sweet at age 13! I read the "Official Compendium" by that age and I thought Godzilla movies where done, finished.
Godzilla vs Destroyah was definitely a movie that I thought would end that franchise. Then Godzilla (1998) came out, super stoked! Saw that at 11 and thought this is huge! Then I realized after G:2000 that it wasn't over! And now age 30 I can still see new and amazing Godzilla movies with my daughter! very awesome time to be a G fan.
But why would he just simply tease that? He knows what the OD means to G fans. Its not like he teased a stupid sword or gun, he teased that. that has a lot of depth to that.
This is a cool idea, unfortunately I don't follow the DC world as close as some others. Im a fan, just not a dedicated fan. So I cannot really add much to this conversation.
But I like where you are going with this thinking. It gives me an idea of my own.
I like the fan theory, I don't think it will go down like that at all. I see the Oxygen Destroyer being used as a way that gives Serizawa a unique back story. Maybe trying to use it releases King Ghidorah from the icy tomb.
also I would love to see Hedorah come into play. The more monsters the better!
^Is that true? Monsterverse made more money than the Marvel Universe movies? That's impressive! We are only 2 movies in.
Daisuke Ono in a Godzilla movie? Love it!
Sounds bad ass and I'd love to see the oxygen destroyer make a return. Hopefully it is somehow teased as one of Serizawas projects in GKOTM. I think it'd be cool to see him invent some new type of weapons and the government steal them to use on the monsters.
I don't wanna see Godzilla die until we get about 4-5 more movies though.
After all, the Monsterverse has made more money than the first 2 Marvel Cinematic Universe movies did if that says anything.
G:KOTM - This was exceedingly neat and very compelling! I very much enjoyed your comparisons within this presentation. Thank you ever so much for sharing this with us! :)
And the fact that the late Yoshimitsu Banno was an executive producer for Godzilla '14 and posthumous producer on Godzilla 2 doesn't hurt. I'm not in any way convinced Hedorah will show up, but it doesn't hurt its chances.
New chapter. Another new country and a three-way Mechagodzilla battle.
^
idk, I think I want to see Hedorah in GvK as a third monster for weird reason(Probably because GvsTSM happens to be in Adams's top 5 Godzilla films).
Well, the Oxygen Destroyer isn't confirmed to be in the film for anything concrete yet. It could be an Easter Egg, a throwaway line, a foreshadowing of things to come, or a major plot element.
However, its inclusion doesn't necessarily invalidate Toho's stipulation that Godzilla not die in the MonsterVerse. In fact, its inclusion may be a blessing in disguise, as it could potentially serve as a gateway for the gradual easing in of other outlandish sci-fi concepts and ideas.
As for the OP itself, I'd say that King Ghidorah could potentially survive his encounter with Godzilla in King of the Monsters. Optimistically speaking, I think it'd be a pretty great idea to have him return in Godzilla VS. Kong. You have a ready-made threat that requires multiple monsters to beat, AND create a threat that'll require a team-up.
Love the fan plot, but I don't think Godzilla will die.
Don't think Godzilla will die at all.
