Can't wait to see her in this. She's amazing in "Stranger Things".
That was pretty good, SFK.
New chapter. The titular character shows up.
Godzilla 2 will be a much larger film yes and I suspect one with a larger budget to match.
As for her payday, damn. Not a bad paycheck for 13 haha.
Something tells me that this movie is gonna be huge. Just watched Pacific Rim last night.. which makes it the 6th time I've seen it.. to include the theater.. and as I watched it.. I could not help but notice.. the amount of battle scenes.. destruction.. and overall action... and I thought.. since King of the Monsters is a sequel to Edwards film.. and since there was an effort to keep the movie as low budget (Edwards G)as possible.. I wonder if now .. they are going to pull out the big money and roll the dice on KOM? Because.. even though the first one was good.. I think everyone can agree.. it could have been better.
And when you compare Pac Rim with Edwards Godzilla... Pac Rim wins hands down.. and that is why I think Mary Parent and Thomas Tull.. will be going all out on the KOM film. I mean.. look at what they're doing to Pac Rim 2.. it looks to be an awesome flick.. so in my opinion.. I think the gloves are coming off for the Godzilla sequel.
Looking promising.
Cool. A little disappointing that we still have to wait another 2 months but I can wait.
Very cool, looking forward to the next chapter.
SCI-FI KING25 - This was an extremely neat and compelling set of chapters! I very much like the character interactions you presented within your work - along with the slow buildup of anticipation! Excellent work! Thank you ever so much for taking the time to create this and share it with us! :)
It took me a second to realize that the monster was Manda.
Second chapter is up.
Yeah but I'm sure they can't be more Toho monsters. Maybe more Muto's? Or different Muto monsters? But I don't think it's referenced to Destroy All Monsters. I hope your on to something however. I hope I'm wrong.
Mike Dougherty mentioned during a podcast about designing the monsters beyond their four (Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan and Kin Ghidorah). Meaning more monsters are on the way, this could be a new one or an old one but this monster may have been responsible for the sinking of the sub
Not bad, SFK.
i know but its worth mentioning
^I like the use of classic monster movies your doing! I will consider these.
everyday I will post what I watched the night before and try to give a review of why and how it meshed nicely or disjointed.
Pair up the original Gojira with Beasts from 20,000 fathoms. Originators. No other reason needed.
Godzilla Raids again and It Came from Beneath The Sea. Just a story of a radioactive monster wanting to each some fish.
Hedorah and Gamera vs. Zigra for that "WE ARE DESTROYING THE PLANET WITH POLLUTION" social commentary.
Rodan and THEM!. I know neither is a Godzilla film, but Rodan is in the Godzilla universe so it counts for me. That would feed the "I WANT TO SEE GIANT INSECTS ALL THE TIME" people.
Godzilla and Godzilla 2000. You get to see what American producers think of Godzilla, and then see what Japanese producers think of American producers.
Godzilla Final Wars and Big Man Japan. A review in extreme ideas and perspectives. You get to see the Godzilla Franchise try to go all out and then question what the very idea of having to battle giant monsters really means.
Shin Godzilla and Colossal. One story is about how many people work through their problems to solve an issue and defeat a giant monster, and the other is about how one person works through their problems to solve an issue and defeat a giant monster.
hmmm.... I don't know if that is what USS Scorpion refers to.
1968 eh?
"COUGH![]()
COUGH"
@ The King of the Monsters, I liked how you put together some good monster movies by their themes. I will consider the lot of them as I go along.
^I can see that. I have not watched that movie in 20 sum odd years. I love all those movies with Dynamation. I think I spelled that right haha. What Godzilla film would you recommend that go well with like Peanut butter and jelly, dk?
looking for more suggestions. keep them coming!
I know I requested proper order of watching but it didn't happen. That said, I watched a couple more and offer some opinions.
Mecha 1- I liked it more than Mecha 2 since it offered how Mecha came to be and why. It was the first Zilla movie I saw that I wanted the actual Godzilla to lose since he just seemed to be a destructive dick in this movie.
Final Wars- Purists may disagree and that is ok. Oh my! This was a shameless and glorious mishmash battle of several creatures! It felt like The Matrix for almost half the movie but I actually cared about the characters. Acting was quite good and they spared almost no expense to find actors to stand in for Reeves, Fishburne or Jessie Ventura lol! The story was pretty good and ended well. I thoroughly enjoyed and will probably watch again.
Maybe go old school with Sinbad?

Well I can make acceptions dk, King Kong would be a great double feature with King Kong vs Godzilla or King Kong Escapes. I'll except any giant monster movie. For example Dogra, Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, Trantula, Gamera, Them, doesn't matter. Just try and find a fun fit to any Godzilla film.
Thank you for the recommendations! Tomorrow is Godzilla Raids Again. So I'll announce what I watch along with the film. Keep them coming!
Hmmm... I love the idea but am drawing a blank for your rules. I will make a stretch and say Planet of the Apes series, old and new since they are giant creatures from an ant's POV?
The only other creature I can think of is King Kong.
I look forward to see what G. H. (Gman) comes up with!
Well there's an incredibly large and diverse library of kaiju films outside of the Godzilla series, both from Toho and other companies. Here's just a few that I feel coincide nicely with Godzilla films.
Godzilla Raids Again (1955) and Gamera vs. Barugon (1966): Both the second films of their respective franchises, and both set the tone for the films that followed. The similarities don't end there: the star monster from the first film returns to battle a new, quadrupedal reptilian enemy monster in the city of Osaka. Personally, I think Gamera vs. Barugon is the far superior film of the two, but I find the similarities between them interesting.
Mothra (1961) and Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964): I think this double feature makes a lot of sense, because Mothra vs. Godzilla is actually a sequel to Mothra, which introduces the character of Mothra as well as the Shobijin, her two twin fairies. I also think both are absolutely stellar entries entries in the Showa era kaiju library, and two of Ishiro Honda's finest efforts.
Rodan (1956) and Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster (1964): Rodan crossed over into the Godzilla series with Ghidorah, but made his debut in Rodan, which is another standout film of the Showa series.
The Mysterians (1957) and Invasion of Astro-Monster (1965): The Mysterians was Toho's first alien invasion movie and was where Ishiro Honda arguably found his true niche, while Invasion of Astro-Monster was the first film to bring the alien invasion concept to the Godzilla series. Beyond this connection, they also feature the late great Yoshio Tsuchiya in a memorable villain role.
Gamera vs. Zigra (1971) and Godzilla vs. Hedorah (1971): Both films were released in 1971, and both attempt to address the issue of Earth's oceans being polluted by mankind, with their titular monster heroes doing battle with a malevolent alien monster that emerges from the ocean.
Gamera: Guardian of the Universe (1995) and Godzilla vs. Destoroyah (1995): While the Godzilla series was coming to its (temporary) end, the Gamera series was revived in 1995. I think these films merit being compared against each other because while Godzilla vs. Destoroyah was highly publicized and had a seemingly ambitious concept, Gamera was a lower-budget film that resurrected a long-dead franchise, and is considered by many to be a superior film. You could also pair Guardian of the Universe with Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla (1994) instead, which shows exactly what was wrong with the Heisei Godzilla series and part of the reason it came to an end: Daiei made a far superior film on a fraction of the budget.
Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris (1999) and Godzilla 2000: Millennium (1999): In a sort of inverse of what happened in 1995, the epic Gamera Trilogy came to a close in 1999 while the Godzilla series began again with the first entry of the Millennium series. I think watching these two films back to back really presents the sharp divide in quality between the two series: Gamera was largely quality over quantity, with Godzilla the polar opposite. Both films came out in the same year, but in my opinion G3 is miles ahead of G2K, which I by no means consider a bad film.
Godzilla: Final Wars (2004) and Gamera the Brave (2006): These two films are arguably what "killed" kaiju eiga, at least until its current revival. Both films were probably more expensive than they had any reason to be, leading both to be box office disappointments and the last entries in their respective franchises for a decade. But they are both incredibly different films; Final Wars an overstuffed borderline parody of the franchise, and The Brave a heartfelt tribute to the Gamera films of old that tried to appeal both to younger and older fans. I know my bias toward one of these films is probably obvious, but I still think it is an interesting contrast to watch these two films back to back.
Those are just some of my recommendations. I know a lot of them involved Gamera films, but I feel there is often a very fascinating parallel dynamic between the Godzilla and Gamera series, and Gamera films are typically easier to come by than some of Toho's non-Godzilla library.
Hmm... This is a fun idea. I'll have to mull over this a bit, but I'll get back to you soon. I definitely think Godzilla Raids Again and Rodan is the right route to go for tomorrow.
I don't find Godzilla being 250 million+ years old that much harder to believe than Godzilla existing at all. I don't understand why people have a problem accepting it. He was alive 250 million years ago, and after the Permian extinction simply entered a long state of hibernation and suspended animation deep underwater, only becoming active for very brief periods over the ensuing eons. A 250 million-year old giant prehistoric radioactive reptile is no less realistic than a 2 million-year old giant prehistoric radioactive reptile.
Hopefully, Its hard for me to stretch my suspend of disbelief for a single individual Godzilla could live through all those millions of years. I would say Monsterverse Godzilla is 2 million years old at most (would be a nice reference to Gojira 1954) if not younger.
then you would love Rifftrax taking a shot at it! I saw them do it live and it was stellar!
OH YEAH! it also happens to be my birthday-month. as a present to myself I watch all of the Godzilla/monster movies in chronological order from nov 1st to the 30th. my wife and daughter join me in a month long monster-thon!
thank you gman for this months inquiries. im working on Novembers and ill have something on novemeber 3rd! you know what I mean.
That pretty much wraps October. Looking forward to November--Which includes the big date.
Godzilla movie or not I think the 1998 film is only excellent at utilizing every bad cliche that killed 1990s blockbusters. As a Godzilla movie (which is what it's suppose to be) it's contemptuous and insulting. As a monster movie it's barely par for the course. As a blockbuster film, it's the proverbial nail in the coffin for the 1990s--Just a wretched movie through and through.
1998 was a fun monster movie. Just not a good Godzilla movie. if they named "Zilla" something else, it would be still a great monster movie! I do enjoy it, it has a place alongside my other Godzilla and giant monster movies.
But other than that dk, you are all over the board and I don't think that takes away from the over all experience of the films. I watched them all out of order as a kid and I still had fun.
Godzilla: Awakening shows that he survived the Permian extinction over 250 million years ago, so he's probably well over 250 million years old. Granted many people, including myself, dispute the canon status of Awakening, but so far there's been nothing to contradict that origin for Godzilla and it's the best idea we have of his age at the moment. It's always possible Godzilla's origin could be retconned or examined in further depth in the next two films.
Godzilla 2014 is soo much bigger and stronger than Godzilla 2000. It would be like a grown adult fighting a toddler.
Beam to Beam yes Godzilla 2000 packs a punch. But against 2014, it probably wouldn't matter. Godzilla 2014 could simply step on him and that is it. Game over
