I just noticed that you're new here so welcome to the forum!
Oh shoot, I forgot that song even exist. Anyway, I like the voice acting it suits the main character alright.
My philosophy is if the dub does a good job representing the characters and sounds good, I'll watch it. If the dub is awful and the voices don't match the characters then I watch the sub. I like to be able to enjoy both sub and dub.
Shin Godzilla maybe, but other than that... Any Kaiju that does NOT tie him into the Japanese backstory for Godzilla. Let's be honest with ourselves here, the movie was disappointing at points. There was only about 20 minutes of KAIJU actually in it. If we add any main series Kaiju from the more famous Godzilla backstory, for example... Destroyah in my case... They would butcher how incredible these Kaijus really were/are. Your favorite Kaiju story could get ruined by how they make the movie. It's America film making vs. Japanese film making afterall, keep that in mind. Anyway, my choice would be Shin Godzilla. It would define them as being different and also give us a great Godzilla vs. Godzilla fight we all want already.
I've gotten so used to hearing the original Japanese dubs in anime lately that I just can't really get into the English dubs.
There are certain tics to the way the animation is synced that simply makes it flow better in the original language it was intended for.
This one doesn't seem to be any different.
This actually looks really good.
English dubs sometimes ruin the movies portrayal of the emotions.. that the characters are putting forth.. imo.. subs would be better.. but then you have a distraction.. but at least you can know what is going on without it sounding so artificial.. as you get with some dubbed versions.
That's incredible, a G fan for life
This is by far the best reaction to the dub. Had me laughing for a bit.
I personally would rather see obscure monsters make an appearance.
Not bad. I probably going to watch the sub more often though since the all the voice actors are from famous anime, many of which I enjoy.
I think it would be cool if they could have either Gorosaurus or Fire Rodan in the Monsterverse.
You're probably going to be waiting a very long time.
I'm just going to wait for the dub, I'm not going to read the subs the entire movie(Don't ask why).
looks like a mix between of Rodan and an actual pteranodon, I like it.
I'm glad they decided not to go with the more gorilla-like design.
The Monsterverse's Kong is distinct yet still fits the character and the kind of cinematic universe he's in.
These look ok. However it does look a bit to much like Bigfoot to me.
I'm fine with no english dub, I've never liked the dubbing.
Well Michael Dougherty did post a picture with a box saying Rodan maquette, so hopefully Rodan will be the first we see of. I'm hoping they go for the Kong Skull Island style of marketing, where they show us the monsters, rather than the Godzilla marketing.
Wow, was not expecting it this soon. A very pleasant surprise.
I suspect we would be waiting a bit longer if there was an English dub--So I'm fine with it. I'd never watch an English dub if it were an option anyway. The Japanese voice actors are too good.
Well, English dubs haven't exactly been well-received/done over the franchise's history.
When it comes to Japanese productions, it's usually better just to get subtitles. There are exceptions, but this trend is pretty consistent.
No English dub? well, that's a bit of a disappointment.
Wow Netflix is distributing the movie way faster than Funimation with Shin Godzilla, lucky my Monster Planet figurines came in the mail before the worldwide release
I can wait 10 days. I'm so excited!
Dear Godzilla, JUST COME OUT ALREADY!!!
My body is ready! Sooner than I was expecting, but I'm not complaining.
That was definitely a Millennium era roar, so will this film use a mix of roars from the entire series and not go in sequential order like Shin did?
The one with Mick Garris, https://www.podcastone.com/episode/Mike-Dougherty-Dario-Argento
It should be in the middle of the podcast but he confirmed it when he was talking about designing the monsters, and while we are in the news of Godzilla 2. Some of the cast have confirmed roles Millie is playing as "Madison Russel", Kyle Chandler is playing as "Mark Russel", and Vera Farmiga is playing as "Dr. Emma Russel", Randy Havens playing as "Randall P. Havens", Van Marten as "Dr. Chens Assistant" and a whole bunch more here's the link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3741700/fullcredits?ref_=tt_cl_sm#cast
I would love an R rated Godzilla movie lol Nice edit though!
Which podcast did Dougherty mention there would be more monsters beyond the main 4?
^True. But mostly I think it has a lot to do with how the Baby Boomers recall it thanks to the NBC primetime showing in 1976. (The one with John Belushi hosting in a Godzilla costume.) The film got the widest audience in North America for a Godzilla movie and left viewers believing every Godzilla film was like this one.
So while people like my parents and their peers think back to this movie when they think of Godzilla, there are also some post-MST3K folks who either recall or look up legendary schlock to embrace as a cult phenomenon. Godzilla vs. Megalon is unfortunately one of those films.
I suspect the dropkick is one of the more apparent reasons why it has a cult following.
I mean, current Godzilla iterations are big, and strong, and do different things, bu have any of them had the power to defy physics so beautifully, so gracefully? :P
Godzilla vs. Megalon (1973), directed by Jun Fukuda. Generally considered one of the worst entries in the series, but is also one of the most seen Godzilla films in North America. It has a pretty big cult following.
In all honesty, I found it way more enjoyable not knowing what was going on. Since it was made to sell toy to little children, I always found the stories simple enough to understand without knowing the language.
^I'm not a Japanese speaker either, but I did a tremendous amount of research on this show 8 or so years ago to try to build up some western knowledge on this little gem of a footnote in Godzilla's history, including an in depth episode guide. I never did much with the info (some of it ended up on the super old, now long gone version of Wikizilla), but if you'd like clarification on anything as the series progresses, I'd be glad to fill anyone in on what I know about the various story arcs, characters, and evil alien plots!
Now I feel really dumb. haha! a slot machine!? really!? I would go broke playing that money grabber. I cant believe they went through all that trouble to provide something for a slot machine! They should have made a mini-series out of it! It does look so much better than some of the other effects footage kawakita did. damn!
I really wish I could understand Japanese. I only know a few words besides the names of the monsters.
I bought this around a year ago, I'm really glad I did, it was such a fun series. I really hope more fans watch this because it was ridiculously fun. I'll probably rewatch it on Youtube now!
