TheDudeGodzilla 2014 ForumSo why did Gareth Edwards chose San Francisco instead of Tokyo Japan?Jun 10, 2013
Robert Scott Field told us at G-fest last year that the Japanese view of saving face tends to get in the way when making a Godzilla film when the crew scout locations for the movies. Some owners don't like it to see their business crushed by a kaiju. I mean the store or building is remade as a tiny model, but still the owner says no. He or she sees it as bad luck for the business.
Over here it's not the case. America, you have people who love to have their place put in a movie for any reason and you earn more money via tourists.
I'm sure the Wako dept. store in Tokyo's Ginza district gets that after it was featured in the original 1954 Godzilla movie when Godzilla rips off the clock tower. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPO5UBSoHBc

Godzilla 1991 was my favorite, more specific the GhidoGoji suit B design. It's seen in this article. http://www.scifijapan.com/articles/2013/06/09/godzilla-night-2-in-san-leandro-ca-on-june-22nd/

Godzilla takes place in both Japan and America. The set photos reveal this as well as the various leaks we've reported. So no need to be disappointed! Godzilla will seatmate both countries! Haha
ReplyNotMacklemoreGodzilla 2014 ForumSo why did Gareth Edwards chose San Francisco instead of Tokyo Japan?Jun 9, 2013
FIRST!!! Directors/Authors usually like to decimate the places they are most familiar with or popular within their birth country. This is the same reason why H.G. Wells had London destroyed in his classic book, "War of the Worlds." It could have easily been set in U.S.A because the aliens in that book are a symbol for Communism anyways. Plus, since the Japanese love Godzilla, and since movies about towns/cities in America getting invaded, destroyed, or controlled by some enemy appeals to American audiences, then the movie will favor both sides, thus satisfying both sets of audiences.
As for suitimation, I just hope the director and producers make the best choices for the movie.
Reply ALI3NGodzilla 2014 Forumfishing villageJun 9, 2013
I wouldn't be scared. If anything, Edwards knows what the fans want, so I supposed he hated the dumb idea of Godzilla eating fish as much as I did. I think the use of the fishing village is to show when Godzilla appears, and begins wrecking havoc! I guess Edwards wanted to have Japanese influence in his film so the use of the village coexists nicely.
What is your opinion on Godzilla terrorizing San Francisco? I was kinda sad it wasn't terrorizing Tokyo, I would have hoped Edwards would have maybe brought the tradition back, but I guess he went all american to some extent on this one. But I just hope they do use some suitmation!

I love The Return of Godzilla/Godzilla 1985. That was actually the first one I ever saw and I think that version of Godzilla looked the best. To me if you wanted to make Godzilla a horror movie that one looked like it would have been the scariest of them all, but I like most of the Godzilla movies and hard to decide if not that one.

In response to gvstalyor - the name of the maneuver is the nuclear pulse. It was introduced in the Heisei era series and used by Godzilla in several films including Godzilla vs. Biollante and Godzilla vs. King Ghidora.

if they do do it with lets say the oxigen destroyer not shitty missles (98 incident still having nightmares XD) also in the middle of the film they should have the audience think they "killed" him but then near the end battle have him reappear and fight the other monster(s) because after his "death" the other monsters appear cool right he'll have the anti-hero attitud like in Godzilla 2000 in the end he burned the entire city even though he saved the world cool huh ;)

I think in terms of Godzilla fighting another monster we must remember that this is, #1, a reboot, not a continuation of old stuff. #2 Any monster he fights won't be the whole movie. It will be a 'part' of the movie but all indications show this to be way more like the original Gojira. Gareth Edwards has said that. Any thoughts of having an old style Godzilla vs whoever, well, it 's more than likely not gonna happen. At least not now. Toho may make their own old style movie, according to sources ,which will give us die-hards something to talk about but this is purely about what a force of nature Godzilla is. How destructive of a force he is. More than likely any other monster contact will be 'incidental'. Perhaps a nod to us die-hards but it has been much stated that this movie is monster vs human. Maybe Toho will continue the VS line of thinking! Who knows? I guess I'm just saying that they aren't thinking like us. There probably will be easter eggs in the movie and a few nods but we can't be looking for what was.

Hi everyone - new here. Could not believe there were other Godzilla geeks out there like me. :)
I have been a Godzilla fan since I was a kid and there were Creature Features on Saturday afternoons (showing my age....this was BC - before cable!). Then my kids got into Godzilla when they were young and here we are. Our family vacation is to GFest in Chicago every July.
ReplyGodzilla GirlGodzilla 2014 ForumShould Godzilla 2014 use Suitmation?Jun 6, 2013
Before attending GFEST, I would have said CGI. After seeing the work, effort and results of tokusatsu, I'd definitely say suitmation. There is a realism there that is missing from CGI. CG has its place of course, but I sincerely hope they will use suitmation. We've come so far with this that it would look awesome.

@agodzillafreak
Those bug things were Meganula and Meganulon. They're what mutated into Megaguirus. Godzilla already fought them.
As to thoughts for the monster, with a centipede they could be revisiting the old "Gigamoth" idea that became Battra. Could be a cool introduction to a new series. Finalize an old concept that they never quite managed to get out there originally. The Gryphon idea would be cool, but Gryphon was planned to be in the American Godzilla. It could also be one of the many other unmade Godzilla monsters, potentially Deathla since Godzilla 2014 took the place of the IMax that was scheduled for 2007.
ReplyjagenGodzilla 2014 ForumNew Monsters in Godzilla 2014Jun 5, 2013
I agree notmacklemore. I believe this is more like Man Of Steel where the question arises of how we would truly react to a super-being. Here Godzilla will still be Godzilla, atomic breath and all, but how we humans would react in reality to such a creature can be shown in a very realistic way. Especially capturing our fear and confusion. I especially agree with the showing of the trailer, which I have made no secret about being disappointed in Legendary for not releasing it. Yes, I know the business aspect of it, but I still disagree with holding it back. In the end it is us hardcores that drive the biz, baby. Again, I also hope that the makers of the movie remember that for the most part, if we die-hards are honest, our sympathies and cheers go to the monster all day long! Let the humans get crunched! lol
ReplyCapt352Godzilla ForumOrga vs. Biollante - Who Would Win?Jun 5, 2013
Biollante hands down! She is one with the earth and has the intelligence of a human. All Biollante has to do is go under the earth and create earthquakes, tenticals, and her acid attack.

You guys have to understand that as a writer, the story depends on the human interaction, and since the main star of the movie is a giant rampaging monster whose only dialogue is "roar," there have to be a lot of supporting actors/actresses to give the movie direction. Another role of the humans is to either contrast humanity and monsters, which they did best in the original "Gojira" and "Godzilla 2000," or their goal is to sympathize with the monster and understand that they must find a way to co-exist with it. You must remember that Godzilla is and always will be a parable for nuclear weapons.
Gareth Edwards said that he was going to make the movie more realistic, and at first I thought that meant only making Godzilla do things that could exist in the realm of reality, which would mean taking away his fire-breath! But then I started thinking, "Maybe what he means is he'll make the human reaction to a giant monster more realistic, with MASCAS and bringing scientists wearing hazmat suits into heavily irradiated areas." From what I've seen so far, this seems to be the case.
All of that aside, I am really excited for this new movie, and think I speak for everyone when I say: "SHOW US THE FUCKING TEASER TRAILER FROM COMIC-CON!"

It's a very tough choice. But of I had to pick just one movie it would be Terror of MechaGodzilla. It was the very first Godzilla movie I ever saw and it will always hold a place in my heart. It has one of Godzilla's most epic entrance in any film and seeing him win solo against two other monsters while saving his planet just feels right. The music was epic and the human characters were possibly the most well written characters in any G movie. I also love Titanosaurus and the Showa MechaGodzilla. It's a must see Godzilla movie.
But if I can't choose it for any dumb reason, then I would also choose any film with King Ghidorah. From 1964-2004. But Terror of MechaGodzilla is and will always be my number 1 choice.
