I agree. Godzilla's '54 design and sound defined the character. Much like a comic book, there's room for different artist interpretations, but there are some core things to capture. The '54 Godzilla conveys mass and power through his look and sound, and that got lost from '55 to through '75. IN '84, they wanted to reach back to his origins and I think they did so very well and the suit blended the finer attributes of all the suits before it. Wisely, they returned to his original roars. If you see the Japanese cut of Gojira, the main '84 roar actually was created back then, they only used it once, but it's there. The '89 Godzilla was a big revamp of Godzilla's look, but it still had that presence to it, and I really like that they took the '84 main roar, kept it, but also added to it giving the end of it a bit of an animal quality that was lacking in Ifukube's strings roar from '54. For me, '54 Godzilla is the standard, that's what he was envisioned to be when he was created, and I feel you shouldn't deviate far from that. I really hope Godzilla 2014 embodies those qualities and adheres to his origins. It'd be awesome if they used those same roars too. I know it won't happen, but I really wish we could get a movie using Stan Winston's Godzilla, I thought he did a perfect job of Americanizing the design, still has the look and feel of Toho Godzilla but presents it with the American need to give a more realistic look borrowing textures and designs from real lizards.

I just dont think the Godzilla in Godzilla 2000 are right, yes because it doesnt look appropiate, even the Dorsal Fins arent right for me, thats why i like the Heisei more better, plus, the 89 and 91 have that "AWSOME ROAR" which makes me stand out.

The '54 is without question my favorite, I love the overall shape to his body, the design of his head, the eyes, the asymetrical spike designs, just a really great look. After that, I'd say '64 is 2nd best, it's the classic 60's design with a wonderfully evil face. Even though '65 was mostly the same as '64, it did start the transition towards a more kid-frienly look so it's like '64 lite, but I still love it because it was the only suit used for multiple films in the 60s. I will never understand the large fandom for '62, to me it one of the weakest designs ever, the suits went downhill from '54 to '62 and then back up in '64. It's still better than some other G suits, but I just would never list it in a top 10 by any means, yet it seems to get a lot of favor, Yuji Sakai seems to like it most of all.

Since I only have a Wii version, I'll go with the Wii.

Kiryu is my favorite. Mechagodzilla 2 and Mecha-King Ghidorah are my honorable mentions, even though MKG is only part robot.

My favorite would be King Kong vs. Godzilla's design of Godzilla.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Legendary pictures only has the rights to the Godzilla character, not any other Toho monsters. So whatever monster(s) he does fight, if he fights any at all, will be completely new.

I would like to see a mix of the '54 and "89 versions but FRIGHTENING and huge!!! I pray they keep his iconic "roar". I like both the "54" and "89" versions!! I am hoping to be "wowed" when I see the film! You don't get to see Godzilla on the big screen too often!!! Please don't give the fans anything that looks like an iguana mixed with a T-Rex because it is NOT Godzilla!!! Let's hope WB and Legendary Pictures get this right!!!

Honestly, NO!! I am hoping this is the beginning of a New "SERIES" of films. If the first film does well at the box office (which I am sure it will), Toho Co., Ltd. will allow more films to be made. I hope they leave the end of the film as a "cliffhanger" (showing his "eye" opening or something to that effect) to let the audience know he will return for a sequel. The fans have been waiting too long for his return and to let him "die" at the end would not be wise!

It all started when i seen zilla (the american godzilla) i loved it but when i went to video store to rent it one time i was confused i seen a different monster on the front and i was only about 4 or 5 so I didn't know better but it said godzilla on it so i got and i fell in love after that i knew this was the real deal and i said that american godzilla dosen't even deserve the title GODZILLA so after that i found out zilla was a remake so iv been watching godzilla ever since i was 4 or 5.

i love the older style Godzilla as much as the next fan but i think Big G has looked the same for a bit to long i would like to see something new. i enjoy the newer style of Godzilla like the 2000 Godzilla. i think because the the nuclear radioactive mutation since he can harness the nuclear energy and focus it into a beam he needs some sort of ability to harmoniously control the radiation and therefor needs the crystal structure of the spines to control the immense amounts of radioactive energy. i mean if you remember the movie when Godzilla fights Orga you can remember that they found some samples to test and they discovered that Godzilla had an incredible healing ability, and why not the ability to evolve many times quicker than any other creature to be able to adapt to his new found powers given to him from the Radiation.

either way i am very excited for what is to come and can not wait for the movie! i feel my childhood coming back!

I'm torn between Gojira (1954) and Godzilla (1984). Gojira is easily a better made film in every way, the suit's great, the cinmeatography and the black and white work wonderfully, the score is amazing. For me though, I just love the '84 film so much, it's my most favorite Godzilla look ever, and despite a lot of flaws it has, there are some great things to it for me. I love the way Godzilla is shot, the camera angles and such, the sets he's in, the roar is my most favorite, the music even has it's moments. All of hte music in '84 from the point where he starts leaving for Mount Mihara to the credits is some of my most favorite music in the franchise. For as much as the score falls short of Ifukube's mastery for the whole film up to that point, the last fiew pieces are worthy. One thing I find common for both is I hate the puppet/cybot shots, they look so different from the suit and not very good in both cases. The only time I'm ok with them is the first shot of the '54 puppet on Odo island, it's so classic and it doesn't look so bad there, but in the end sequences it looks so different from the suit.

For me, the suits to imitate overall are '54, '84 or '89. For me what's important in a Godzilla design is a sense of size to feel his destructive force. For me, those 3 films are the only times the suit has really looked and felt like it had a mass. It's also key to have a quality roar too, which I feel each of those films had, plus they used SFX for his footsteps which is also key. I like Godzilla to look massive, nothing sleek. While some of the heads of the Showa era looked really good, the bodies always looked to skin and too man in suit, and some of the things they did after '91 just didn't work. I also like more organic looking spines, not such a fan of what they did from 2000 on, I like the idea that because Godzilla's a mutation, the spines are a bone growth. The crystal looking spines just feel too fake, they look cool, but just don't seem appropriate. I also think a long tail is important, and the 2 dominant fangs.

The original 1954 Gojira is still the best even if it had a different look between the full size guy in a suit and the had puppet. As a kid growing up with the Raymond Burr version I never caught on that a puppet was used but as I got older I took notice that that the arms and shoulders and neck were so much smaller in some shots. I liked the one in King Kong vs Godzilla. But of the more resent films I have to say I like the one with white eyes, that one looked mean, scary and dangerious. I never cared for the ones with the large spike like dorsal plates, they looked silly.

Oh hell no, no guys in a suit please. If thats the way to go then why bother doing a realistic American film, might as well let Toho do it. I'm sorry but except for the original Gorjira every other Godzilla film looks like a guy in a suit on a toy set. And half the Godzilla shots in the 1954 film was a hand puppet. I want to see a film that looks like a creature that you believe is real and breathing. I know most hard core fans hated the 1998 film but the effects for Godzilla were pretty dang good. I'm sorry but a guy in a rubber suit looks silly, it would be a waisted effort to go that way.

I agree with yours. I love it when Godzilla and Anguirus fought together like a tag team. Another one of my favorite team ups was Godzilla and Rodan against King Ghidorah in Monster Zero. I also enjoyed the brief team up of Godzilla and Mothra against Gigan and Monster X in Final Wars.
