I expect a good bit. At first, it will be showing the devastation of Godzilla and with Godzilla attacks yet the camera will show little of the creature. Towards when Godzilla enters San Francisco I expect we will see more though.

Well, I hope INSTINCTIVEGIGAN is right. Hell we all do. But I will say this. If it doesn't happen, we may be witnessing a deliberate ploy by WB to sabotage the take on this movie simply due to the split from legendary...who knows. it will certainly make me wonder. There has to be a bit of resentment on WB's part. Because any sequel would be done by Legendary and Universal...politics .

@GMAN115 - I don\'t like being negative and I hate calling people this but... you\'re kind of stupid.
Your argument reads as follows:
"@True American Godzilla
\"Realistically, Godzilla would need gills to survive in the water.
No he doesn\'t, Godzilla never needed any gills before, so why now? Let\'s not forget that Godzilla is a dinosaur, and if you look back to his ancestors, there are a lot of types of dinosaurs that can breath underwater WITHOUT THE USE OF GILLS!!! The underwater breathing mechanism is probably inside of Godzilla\'s nose, that\'s why he was able to stay down there for so long without any problems. Giving Godzilla gills is pretty much useless.
BTW, those things you call \"gills\" on his neck aren\'t really gills, those are scales that HAPPENS to look like gills.\"
So let\'s break this down shall we?
First off!
\"No he doesn\'t, Godzilla never needed any gills before, so why now?\"
Actually, yes he did. Toho chose not to go into the matter of how Godzilla could breath under the water. Why? We may never know for sure, but the most likely reason is to expand on the mystery that surrounds him.
All animals that have lungs will need a set of gills to live in the sea. The only animals today which fit that category are amphibians (amphibian actually means \"living two lives\", referencing their life on land with their lungs and in the sea with their gills), so if you want to classify Godzilla realistically, he is in fact an amphibian. He\'s reptilian in nature, but if he breathes underwater via the use of gills or any other oxygen or water filtration system he\'s no longer classifiable (scientifically speaking) as a reptile. He is an amphibian.
If he breathes underwater, he needs gills because it\'s obvious he has a pair of lungs to breath air. If he doesn\'t have gills, it\'s impossible to breath underwater, period.
Next!
\"Let\'s not forget that Godzilla is a dinosaur, and if you look back to his ancestors, there are a lot of types of dinosaurs that can breath underwater WITHOUT THE USE OF GILLS!!!\"
This is where your stupidity really shows kid.
First off, Godzilla was classified as an irradiated dinosaur in the movies, but let\'s not forget the fact that this is a theory and not a solid fact.
All dinosaurs had lungs and breathed air. They were reptiles. All sea creatures during the time of the dinosaurs that could survive in water indefinitely without lungs or the need to breath air were classified as fish or some other manner of sea creature such as a crustacean, mollusk, amphibian, etc,.
There is not a single dinosaur species in the fossil record that did not have lungs or breath air, nor a single species that could breath underwater.
Again, I hate being negative and calling people this but you are in fact kind of stupid.
Next!
\"The underwater breathing mechanism is probably inside of Godzilla\'s nose, that\'s why he was able to stay down there for so long without any problems. Giving Godzilla gills is pretty much useless.\"
More stupidity.
First, you acknowledged the fact that Godzilla needs some kind of breathing mechanism to breath underwater. News flash, there is only one breathing mechanism in the world that allows for this to take place: gills.
And quick question: Where is the evidence to support this theory of yours about a \"breathing mechanism\" being inside Godzilla\'s nose? I\'d like to know very much where you came up with this because it was obviously not based on any kind of study or knowledge of animals or biology.
Again, without the use of gills, be they internal or external, breathing underwater is impossible. Toho never said whether he had gills or not, but the fact remains that there had to have been some kind of gill system in place within his being to allow him to breath underwater without drowning him.
And finally, my favorite bit!
\"BTW, those things you call \"gills\" on his neck aren\'t really gills, those are scales that HAPPENS to look like gills.\"
You have obviously never studies animals or animal biology. If you had, those gills would stand out for what they are (gills) like a crimson red devil horned hat in a christian church on Sunday.
Go do some research on gills one of these days. See what they look like across various types of animals which use them and you\'ll begin to see why they are in fact gills and not scales.
If you want to debate someone, do so armed with facts and knowledge instead of fan-boy opinions. You obviously had no idea what you were talking about when you made that argument, and when you come unarmed to debates like this you set yourself up for destruction. That\'s exactly what happened here too. Your arguments have been completely and utterly destroyed.
A mind is a terrible thing to waste GMAN115, so try not to waste yours any further.
ReplyG. H. (Gman)Godzilla 2014 ForumWhat's your idea(s) of a 2014 Godzilla merchandise that you would want?Oct 29, 2013
I think what I want the most out of merchandise is for distribution companies that currently hold rights for home video Godzilla releases to make the leap to Bluray-- especially the later movies that were shot in HD.
More-over I hope Sony re-releases the Heisei Godzilla movies they own with Japanese language tracks and proper english subtitles. I also want proper ending credits as well. The current DVDs (minus vs. MechaGodzilla II and vs. Biollante, which Sony do not own) are awful representations of the movies.
I'd also like those tacky english title cards to be removed from any re-releases of the Millennium Godzilla movies. Those films have some great main title graphics and Sony absolutely ruined them by putting those ugly, white, english title cards over them.
We need proper re-releases of the Heisei and Millennium Godzilla movies. And no dubtitles either.

@durp004
"Story-wise" is a very vague term to point out criticism. What about the stories? Are they good? Are they bad? That's fairly subjective in most circles-- Besides in this particular genre it's not so much about how one perceives the story's merit, but rather how it's executed.
Applying Western criticism to Eastern cinema is like using a car engine to replace an airplane turbine. In all my studies of Japanese cinema there are few places that the two intersect so the comparisons of quality need to be re-adjusted.
That said, GINO's story might have been worthwhile had the characters been remotely likable and capable of delivering decent performances. As it stands, only Jean Reno was the enjoyable character in the film.
The effects were good, but that was expected by 1998. (Other than the monster changing sizes throughout the movie...) I'm not going to compare Western effects to Tokusatsu, because they both aim to do different things.
I think the only thing misunderstood about GINO is not that it's a terrible movie, but why it's a terrible movie. Critically it's offputting, yes, but monster wise? It might've been more acceptable if it weren't called Godzilla, but Devlin and Emmerich missed the mark. They were arrogant enough to believe their interpretation would be superior and the lack of respect for the series insured that nothing but the name would be included.
It goes beyond not including his atomic ray and making him weak. The creature didn't posses any majestic stature-- There was no terror, like in some movies and no awe like in other Godzilla incarnations. The mythology and metaphors were absent and the special effects took center stage. It made no effort to look at what the character stood for during any era of the series. It was a flat imitation of creature features that had come before and an example of Hollywood at its most crude. And perhaps an equal sin, if we look at the bulk of the Godzilla series: It just wasn't a lot of fun.
ReplyBCrockett94Godzilla 2014 ForumWhat do you hope to see if a 2014 Godzilla trailer was shown on 11-3-13?Oct 29, 2013
The WIP trailer was already leaked. It was taken down pretty damn quick, and the quality was terrible. Or at the very least, it looked like an official trailer, but could have been a fake, the reason it'd get taken down is because the 2012 test footage was inter-spliced with it.
I dunno, but I seriously wouldn't put any money down for a trailer to be shown on Nov. 3.
I'd like to see what the people at SDCC 2013 had seen.

On November 3rd, the Godzilla special effects person is gonna be at the Comikaze thing. They might just show the people who show up some of the footage with special effects in it, maybe even show us what the kaiju actually look like. I dunno. But I really doubt that they're going to release a trailer on Nov. 3.
Just because it's Godzilla's "birthday", doesn't mean that they have to do anything on that day. I also don't think that Thor: The Dark World will promote Godzilla. I really only see Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug doing any sort of promotion before 2014. I'm pretty sure we'll see a trailer in 300: Rise of an Empire, as it's a Legendary movie, and it's a couple months earlier than Godzilla.
Like Kaijusaurus has said, I wouldn't get my hopes up for a trailer this early.

Ghidorah has only came close to killing Godzilla once, that I'm aware of, and that was in Final Wars. MechaGodzilla has came close to, or has, killed him in every one of his appearances. Even in the 90's movie, Godzilla versus King Ghidorah, Godzilla didn't have too much of a problem with King Ghidorah, rather it was Mecha King Ghidorah.
My only reason I think MechaGodzilla, or a giant machine in general, should be the endgame is that man created some weapons that they're positive will kill Godzilla, but tanks and airplanes wouldn't be considered reliable anymore because of how easily destroyed they are.. and nuclear missile launch sites (as far as I'm aware) can't hit a moving target.
Ghidorah seems more like a final monster to use, again on the assumption Legendary uses Toho monsters, but not the necessarily the endgame. I'd put MechaGodzilla and Ghidorah in the same movie. Godzilla is defending his stomping grounds that Ghidorah has invaded, while MechaGodzilla defends the planet from both.
I see a sort of loose alliance between MechaGodzilla and Godzilla to destroy Ghidorah (so that it makes Ghidorah look even more powerful), but quickly after that, MechaGodzilla and Godzilla are at each others throats again, with MechaG coming out on top in the end, and maybe a post credit scene that suggests that Godzilla may or may not be alive (to avoid fanboys from getting upset at Godzilla being killed).

Anchorman 2 is a rated R comedy and the 300 prequel will be a rated R gore fest. Those movies will never in hell be advertised at a Marvel movie. Robocop, yes. That's 5 trailer slots, the only other movie left is Godzilla. The one thing that begs the question is, will there be a 6th.
ReplyDurp004Godzilla 2014 ForumGodzilla 2014 - Hopes and Concerns + Thor 2: Expect a Trailer!Oct 29, 2013
Even if going for the same demographic a Robocop remake, the sequel to 300, and Anchorman 2 are all coming out and all have earlier release dates than Godzilla.
There are plenty of movies who would more than likely take the spot in the preview section for a big movie like Thor 2, and trust me all those companies want a big movie to release trailers on I would be highly surprised to see Godzilla take it over the others.
ReplyInstinctiveGiganGodzilla 2014 ForumGodzilla 2014 - Hopes and Concerns + Thor 2: Expect a Trailer!Oct 29, 2013
Well if there's around 3 other previews then Godzilla is one of them. At big hit movies you wanna show about the same demographic at your movie, thus the superhero movies being advertised at a superhero movie. The only movie besides Marvel ones I can think of that Thor will advertise is the 2nd Hobbit. I still say expect Godzilla, releasing him at Thor would get people interested enough for them to start showing the trailer at other movies like Enders Game and the Hobbit.

Godzilla`s Revenge. Yeah, alot of people have already mentioned it, but i wanna give my own statement. This was one i had a hard time finding and first here in 2013 i manage to get it and watch it. I had expected to litteraly HATE the movie. And you know what? I loved it. Heck, even the kid character was great, and i usually hate them. The turmoil of his shyness and his everyday life seems legit. This was a great idea, the problem is most people saw it as a traditionel Godzilla movie, and as that it sucks. But it isnt. Its an interestinmg look into the mind of a little kid, a very imaginative kid which just makes these ideas so great.
And to everyone who sees the 98 movie as misunderstood, dont worry, it isnt. We understand it. We understand that its 100 % crap.
ReplyDurp004Godzilla ForumMost misunderstood Godzilla movie??Oct 29, 2013
To be fair the same could be said for most Godzilla movies if you looked at them as a critic rather than as a fan.
Story wise was the 98 version worse than some of the toho 1s? God no; effects wise it was fine for the time. Characters weren't any more memorable or forgettable than most.
I mean stacking it up against the best Godzilla movies it crumbles, but against the worst it holds it ground better than most fan would like to admit.

No teens. Oh god, no teens. Kids are okay, but no teens. They find their way to ruin so much.
Godzilla shouldnt be some idiots pet like a certain other giant monster cartoon did it. A team of people who simply follow and study him, like the team from Godzilla 2000 would be great.
If they could follow these rules and look past what i stated above then a cartoon MIGHT work, its not certain. We have yet to see a good Godzilla animated series.

I don't think there will be a trailer at Thor. If anything the Marvel movies take away that chance.
At the average movie I go to see there are roughly 5 trailers, and with marvel movies occupying 3 of these spots it makes it even less likely for Godzilla to appear. Sure in terms of release date he's close to those movies, but marvel Movies ALWAYS show marvel movies before every1 else, and that leaves roughly 2 to 3 spots after them up for grabs.
Unfortunately there are plenty of big name movies coming out between Thor and Godzilla who are likely to take these spots over the big guy.
Could we see the trailer? Sure but i think the Marvel movies previews are just a much evidence we won't as we will.

On a fan boy level, I want the sequel to have Mecha G, King Ghidorah, and several other Toho Kaiju, but from a more realistic standpoint, I'd guess Mecha G could only appear in a sequel if enough time passes between movies, or if the first one isn't as "dark and realistic" as we're being led to believe. That being said, I wouldn't mind if they make another original kaiju for a sequel, but I would be extremely disappointed if there isn't a Toho one in it as well. Obviously redesigned to fit the theme and style of the movie, but still recognizable. And no, I don't think it would come across as Legendary/ WB/ Gareth/ whoever shamelessly trying to copy what Toho has done, but rather be more like honoring them. Also, you can't tell me that if you were in the theaters opening night and you see your favorite villain show up that you wouldn't be super excited. Heck, I get teary-eyed just thinking of the possibility of Destroyah happening

I definitely think that your idea seems possible, and i do like it, i have to disagree with the Mecha Godzilla as the end game/last movie enemy. I would have to assume that Ghidorah would be the last enemy Godzilla faces, assuming that Legendary wants to use Toho monsters. He's basically Godzilla's arch enemy, and almost always takes more than just Godzilla to take him down. I mean, Mecha Godzilla is almost, if not more iconic than Ghidorah, but I just feel like Ghidorah is more of a final villain. But that's just my opinion.

The 98 Godzilla of course. I mean by monster movie standards to leagues ahead of most, and even as a godzilla movie it wasn't bad. The only problems were how weak they made godzilla, and not giving him his nuclear breath.
I mean the babies were kind of bad, but it was just a fun scene, and I enjoyed that part of the movie more than I ever enjoyed any scene with Minilla in it from the original showa scene.
Who knows, if toho wouldn't have gotten greedy and let tristar come up with their own monster instead of telling them no they had to buy rights to another toho monster the movie could've been even better.

Hmm, while I'm okay with a monster island idea, and think it could work I can't see it working with the same dark gritty realistic approach they're going for with the upcoming movie.
However if they're willing to change the tone(or hopefully realise this shouldn't even be tried to portrayed as realistic) the it could work, and probably be pretty good.
A monster island idea could go a lot of directions, it could be as simple as them filling an island with pheromones that attract all the monsters to it and have a huge brawl, without going in too much of a b movie direction.

I really don't see Mechagodzilla being a second movie sort of thing, or any mech for that matter, original or Toho. If anything, third or fourth movie, and that's only if Legendary decides to use any Toho creations.
Simply because I see Mechagodzilla as the endgame. In each of the machine's appearances, it has come pretty damn close to killing Godzilla, and once it succeeded, if you consider the ending of Tokyo: SOS as Godzilla dying.
There are only three instances, that I remember, where Godzilla actually dies. Gojira, Godzilla v. Destoroyah, and Tokyo: SOS. (four if you count the TriStar movie).
In Gojira, Godzilla is killed by the oxygen destroyer, a manmade weapon that would never really happen in the real world. Godzilla v. Destoroyah, he dies via meltdown. Tokyo: SOS has Godzilla's ultimate fate up for debate, although it is more than implied that Godzilla died as a result of Kiryu (MG3), making Mechagodzilla the only "monster" that succeeded in killing Godzilla (again, if you consider the ending of that movie as Godzilla dying). Most people don't count Godzilla dying at the end of King Kong v. Godzilla as a real death, although he is defeated.
So that's why I believe that IF they bring Mecha G into the Legendary movies, then it would be more of an endgame for a third or fourth movie. However, I will still see if I can find a good enough reason for them to put MechaGodzilla in the movies, because MechaG is my favorite Godzilla enemy and I would absolutely LOVE to see Legendary's take on Godzilla's metal doppelganger.

In which the movie then somewhat follows the original movie of Godzilla destroying cities, and capturing the dark atmosphere of the original. Either way, I cannot wait
