Another topic mentioned Godzilla being attracted by bright lights similar to the Tyrannosaurus from Jurassic Park. I think all this happens near the end of the movie where theres little to no hope of actually stopping Godzilla with conventional or nuclear methods. There only hope now is to save what people they can or lure Godzilla into the path of the other monster(s) so they can finish each other off.

MadisonGodzilla 2014 ForumNew Godzilla (2014) SNICKERS Commercial! (UPDATE: Snicker\'s Facebook Posts Godzilla!)

Hahaha, yeah dude, they should really get to work penning some dark nuclear holocaust commercials.

"Eat a Snickers NOW or Godzilla will eat your family!!!!" Great angle to grab the children's market :-)

"When all your loved ones are gone, and your home is a radioactive wasteland...there is one thing you can still count on.....Twinkies: Surviving Godzilla and pretty much everything else since 1647"

Being more serious for a minute...I do wish the commercial had SOMETHING to let people know that the movie isn't a rubber suit Godzilla movie. Like, they could have kept it the exact same, but at the end, put in even just a 1-2 second clip from the trailer....like Godzilla roaring while the doors are being closed on him....or something.

I understand the commercial was primarily harmless fun, but if you haven't seen the trailer, and your first knowledge of this movie came from that Snicker's commercial (which WILL be the case for some people) I think it's a weak first impression.

In any case, it's not a huge deal no matter how you slice it. It's important to keep perspective and not blow things out of proportion.

this is hilarious but also good for the marketing and to get people more intrested in seeing the new movie.

GrimnirGodzilla 2014 Forumdiscussion about the whole godzilla has gills thing

There are a hell of a lot of assumptions being made. Why does this Godzilla have to be a reptile, or an amphibian, or a dinosaur? I find it unlikely he's any of these in Edwards' version, but rather an ancient form of life we've never encountered before.

I think it's highly likely that trying to blow him up with nukes DID have an effect on him, but... come on folks, it's 2014 - being hit with large doses of radiation doesn't mutate you into a super-monster - it gives you cancer and kills you. With Edwards pushing for a more realistic take on the property I find it highly unlikely that Godzilla is essentially a lizard Hulk.

PulsariumGodzilla 2014 ForumMy educated guess as to what Godzilla is in this film

Danzilla93:

You're right. I personally shook my head with a deadpan expression on my face when I read the first sentence of the OP. Godzilla from the Precambrian? No. If anything, the only lifeforms that existed during the Precambrian Era were extremely simple bacteria and unicellular organisms. If I remember correctly, the original film said he was an "amphibious" dinosaur from the late Cretaceous Era (subtitles read "Jurassic", but they referred to a mass-extinction event which ended the "Jurassic"). I'm pretty sure we all know what did come from the Cambrian Era, though. A small, hard-shelled proto-arthropod which evolved and thrived in an anaerobic environment? I wonder what that might be...

Guys, there are no Toho monsters, now if the Muto monters have Toho monster design influences that'd be different.

@godzillafan.        I understand that, however. ***spoiler*** the reason I say that is the IGN rewind theatre that is referenced in the video talks a lot about Rodan. The say in this new video that they more or less hit the nail on the head with one of their biggest predictions. I'm not saying I'm right, I'm just saying that it's a possibility. With the press asked not to talk about it, they would clearly want to stick with denying any classic monsters. ***end spoiler** again, I could be wrong, but what if it is true.

It's not a direct sequel, it only pays tribute to the original film. Godzilla and the Mutos are unknown to the public in the new film and no way in hell is anybody forgetting about a monster rampaging across Japan.

@ErwinGFan91^

Agreed. I'd like to see another series with uprgraded suitmation and miniatures in the future. But for now I'll enjoy this new take as it looks promising.

@Gojira2014

As I've mentioned before, it's not about making Godzilla look real, but an appreciation for the style that is suitmation and miniatures. Godzilla moved on to the new age with new techniques in that style. Now he's just simply being Hollywood-ized. I for one hope to see Godzilla return to Toku one day in the future.

@Valkorin

Way too overboard of reaction. If anything I think the tongue and cheekiness of this commercial grabs a different audience for the movie.

It shows Legendary isn't so uptight and dead-pan serious (like you're being). If you can't poke fun at yourself there's not much point in gaining an audience. That's exactly what's happening here. Although the movie itself is a "serious and dark" product, this ad works to acknowledge a broader side to Godzilla that could attract other people. Or at least get them interested.

Plus I'm not sure what you expect from Snickers commercial. Does anyone really think Snickers, Subway or some other company is going to do a dark, gritty, evil, nuclear holocaust Godzilla ad for their FOOD product? Hell no. That would just confuse audiences looking at the product.

Face it guys. The movie itself is dark and serious, but Godzilla gives off a much broader vibe than that. Embracing other facets of the franchise and playing them up seems like a wise idea to me.

drlovefistGodzilla 2014 ForumExplain This S#!t

So late in the game, but watching the trailer and using the almighty google maps.  The angle, facing of the BoA building and where G-man is, he's walking through St. Mary's Square(that area) and the building in the background at an angle is the Fairmont Building which is listed as about 300 feet so if you continued the drop where it was cut off, perspective would put Godzilla about half of the Boa Building and a bit taller than the Fairmont.   There I'm officially bored at work and a geek....

This two points are the most important from my point of view:

1. Godzilla himself is 350 feet (107 m) high, making him the biggest Godzilla yet seen onscreen. That size was chosen so that the monster would be tall enough to be seen from wherever you are in a city, and small enough that he can still be obscured.

2. We also learned a plot point that makes the film 400% more awesome, but Gareth swore us all to secrecy so we’re not going to spoil it here. But trust us, when this information comes out, you’re going to be impressed.

Wooooowww!!! about this las paragraph. On the size issue, now it is writen in stone.

This will be something for @Chris Picard to answer and I shot him the link to this post. Speaking as a moderator point of view. If we happened to start a forum on here dedicated to RPG, like @Madison stated, all it takes is a few people to undermine it. I see that being the home to the trolls to be quite honest, and I see a lot of arguments arising. I like the idea of a chatroom though, a lot. Granted the same risks somewhat apply, but it'll be much easier to manage.

When I read the comments from the trailer on Youtube, I mostly see people that are excited and can't wait for the movie (and a lot of Breaking Bad jokes), but then there's also quite a bit of people criticizing the movie and saying things along the lines of:

it's unrealistic

it's just another typical hollywood remake

the cgi is bad

Godzilla should be in Japan not in America

they stole the music from 2001: A Space Odyssey

it's gonna be Cloverfield all over again

it's unoriginal

another boring cgi fest

typical 'Murica movie

I don't die inside, but it does kind of piss me off seeing those kinds of comments. What does make me die inside is when people think this is a sequel or that it's related to the 98 Godzilla or that the 98 Godzilla was better because it was more realistic.

TheGMan123Godzilla 2014 Forumdiscussion about the whole godzilla has gills thing

Again, a creature that size can be that large and have those proportions without faltering under their own weight, have an atomic breath or any other abilities similarly exotic, and can functionally live forever due to non-decaying/dying cell structure and repair system, but in this scenario, air becomes redundant in normal biology. If anything, I see air as a mere catalyst for some the things going on in a nuclear creature's systems like Godzilla.

It helps, and gathering as much as you can by way of lungs, nostrils, and gills is certainly beneficial, aiding in a few reactions and cooling down of the nuclear organs, but it's likely not vital to Godzilla in general. How does this sound? A compromise between needing it or not, being explained by nuclear mutation-based self-induced-over-time evolution, whereby it's not a matter of urgency of taking it in, rather to simply aid in bodily functions.

To sum it up even more: Godzilla doesn't NEED air, but air HELPS, and that's why he has nostrils, lungs, AND gills
