Im glad I got to stir up such a passionate debate though, atleast people care about it enough to want to waterboard me for presenting a theory.
It's hard to tell how well the movie will do based on the trailer. It's hard to form a decent argument for it. Past evidence has been erratic. Some movies have trailers that were watch a whole lot and flopped, others didn't. Some movies had trailers that weren't watched online much but still blew out the box office.
The only real concrete evidence of anything is that Godzilla is getting plenty of exposure from the new trailer. And seeing as I've watched the Snickers commercial every other day on TV, it's far to say it's getting plenty of exposure from that as well.
And gee, look, it never even had a super bowl trailer. ;)
EDIT:
I also want to point out that Legendary must be doing something right. 300: Rise of the Empire just demolished the competition at the box office yesterday by almost $10 million. It should hit close to $40-$50 million domestically by the weekend's end.
It's crazy to me since I feel like I've only seen a handful of marketing from the movie. Good news for the new Godzilla trailer as well. It means it's getting plenty of exposure this weekend.
Guys, this is schewing a little too close to a flamewar. Lets try not taking the information personally. If you disagree, explain why then move on. Flame baiting users or calling each other trolls ends here.
If anyone does it again they will be immediately reported and the topic will be closed. Play nice.
DESTROYAH-X - This is going to sound a bit mean, so I apologize ahead of time but this thread set me off and I have to vent for a few minutes.
Just because there are hints that Godzilla's enemy is aquatic in nature, there is NOTHING that says or even hints at it being a micro-organism. Like so many with the Rodan theory, your are projecting your own opinions into the information and that doesn't work. Why? Because your thoughts and desires are based on just that, thought and desire. Your hopes for a Destoroyah creature are clouding your judgement and you are not actually basing your arguments on facts despite your attempts at logically creating an argument to support your desire.
There are several major problems with your theory: One is that a microrganism is not the only possiblilty. Two is that a microrganism is ungodly small (bacteria) and is not a good source for monster creation. Three is that there was never mention of micro-organisms and the idea that M.U.T.O has been scientifically creating or engineering mosnters has not been confirmed. Four is that Destoroyah didn't feed on Godzilla's radiation, and thus his form and life style serves no purpose in such a radiation leeching theory. Five is that Destoroyah was identified as a type of microcrustacean, of which there never was any such creature.
You are not the first to project your desires onto the information that Legendary has allowed to leak to the net about the movie, but as with all of them you are misinterpreting the information and projecting your own thoughts and desires into it which doesn't work and doesn't make it true or viable as an argument.
I'm as interested as the next guy about the new Muto mosnters, but please, stop trying to force the Destoroyah issue. Just like the Rodan rumor, it's only a rumor that was already proven false by Gareth Edwards directly when he said out loud for an interview that all of the Muto monsters were original creations and drew inspiration from outside movies beyond Toho such as Starship Troopers and other monster movies.
Destoroyah is not in this film, nor will anything that remotely takes after its form/lifestyle. It's just a baseless rumor/wishful thinking, and despite your best efforts it has done you no good. Please drop it and leave it alone. You're not the first to present the Destoroyah theory and just as it always has been before your post, it is nothing but a false hope that will not come to pass. So please just dorp it and leave it alone. This topic has been done to death just as badly as the "How will it end?" debate, and it needs to stop.
Destoroyah is not going to be in this movie, nor will the Muto creatures take after it just because it seems like a few "facts" make it sound possible.
Okay, venting over.
Oh yea Im sorry, I forgot to explain, me and IGN got together and decided to prank the world by releasing videos on their page. You guys are all so gullible, unless you wrote the movie stop telling me that you know for a fact that it's not true. In speculating based on evidence provided, and I'm not claiming it to be fact.
You people are taking the word of a directer who denies the claims because he's PROTECTING THE TWIST.
if you are going to tell me it's not true, you better have some proof you've either:
A. Seen the movie.
B. Wrote the movie.
If you don't meet any of the qualifications listed above, your the Troll.
An amphibian is any creature that can live a life on two or more distinct environments such as frogs, certain species of lizards, snakes, even some mammals lead dual lives and can be considered amphibians.
Amphibian, contrary to popular belief and 'understanding', is not automatically a reptile or a frog or anything of the kind. The term amphibian can be applied to any creature that is capable of living a life in two or more environment types such as land/air or land/water.
Technically, a human being could be considered an amphibian if they were to do things right. If they spent about a 50/50 ratio of time in and out of water every day of their lives, they'd be considered amphibians. Right now we're considered mammals because we spend nearly 99% of our lives on land. The other 1% is spent in the water (swimming pools or diving in the ocean), or in the air (inside of airplanes).
comparing those two pics it doesn't really look that similar...I mean look at the way the arms bend, and the head again
I just updated it. I fixed some typos and added a section about his dorsal plates, their function and why they glow.
ANTHONY.1432 - You are doing the same thing that a few other people have done.
You are projecting your own desires and hopes for the movie into a jumble of information that never once even mentioned your own theory.
That doesn't work ANTHONY.1432.
Rodan is not in this movie. He never was, and he never will be. It has been confirmed by Gareth Edwards himself that all the monsters aside from Godzilla are original and brand new because he wanted to bring something new to the table.
By continuing to support the false rumor that Rodan is in this film, I translate that as you being a troll. Nobody likes a troll ANTHONY.1432. Please don't try and argue or spread this false rumor any further.
It's been 100% confirmed by Gareth Edwards directly, as well as Legendary as a whole, that there are no Toho Kaiju in this film aside from Godzilla himself. Please do not continue to troll with this false rumor about Rodan. It's not funny, it doesn't help anyone, it starts arguments and unnecessarily heated debates, and it's entirely untrue.
Thank you.
EBIRAH, please don't troll with that Rodan shtick anymore. It's not funny, and everyone knows that there is 100% confirmation that no other Toho kaijus are in this film.
When it's been 100% confirmed to be untrue, a rumor ceases to be a rumor and becomes something else instead: baseless misinformation. By posting it again, I see it as a troll. Please don't do that anymore. Nobody likes a troll.
IT'S VOLTRON!
there is another classic monster in the new film. godzilla always call for help if there's more than two monsters against godzilla. there'll be a lot of mutos, they're like ants crawling everywhere and coming out of giant holes. also the director says he'll like to do destory all monsters in the sequel so we will see another classic monsters in the film leading up to the sequel.
I still think it's Rodan.
you know, i would rather watch that trailer than most movies!lol
Ya definitely, good point GODZILLA HIMSELF.

i guess they look a little bit alike, but pretty much just in the shape of the limbs, everything else looks different to me. besides, i wouldn't be to worried about people complaining, because most people probably don't even remember that movie, and of those who do, even fewer know what the clover creature actually looks like.
@ daikaiju
OMG, Imagine; the return of the simeons. (the ape aliens inhabiting the third planet from a blackhole.)
@garyzilla
godzilla mating with a female godzilla?....
gawd.. that would ruin the movie for me completely. actually, having a second godzilla in the first place would kinda ruin it for me.. there is only ONE king of the monsters!
hearing all these theories, it sounds like they are going for a more animalistic godzilla (a dumb raging animal, who exists just to feed and breed).. kinda like zilla in the 98 movie. something i dont like at all. hopefully they are just terrible bullsh1t theories
edit: aah gawd! you got my brain thinking.. what if godzillas roar is not a roar at all?, BUT A MATING CALL!!
PLZ, SAY IM WRONG!
i really hope you are wrong aswell gary..
Ugh....can't wait for that surprise. I haven't a notion of what it could be though and I don't want to spoil it either. Feel free to speculate though, that's all we can do after all haha.
That's a good theory, but Idk the article I read said fans of godzilla will be super exited for the surprise.
Ofcourse he would say there is no other Toho monsters, that's why they call it a secret... people are so gullible.
Why can't we all just kick back and wait for Gareth to surpirise us?
I'm not a huge fan of any these monsters tbh. I mean I wouldn't be upset if I saw them in a Godzilla movie, but 9 times out of 10 I would prefer one of the already established TOHO monsters or a cool original design.
After those had been fairly exhausted, and there wasn't much left to pick up, and these were our options....well....
Probably Bagan. Just because he LOOKS the coolest to me, entirely from an appearance standpoint. It wouldn't matter too much if they changed his overall strength or powers so long as it fit what they were trying to do with the film.
Well said MADISON, i know we always spoil films for ourselves haha....
Two Godzilla's is an interesting notion. It has the potential to be BADASS. Kinda like Predators, where they have two of them brawl. Not saying that movie on the whole was good or anything, but that scene was totally awesome. After establishing what a BEAST the Predator is in the first two films, you get a major adrenaline rush when you realize they are about to go head to head. Godzilla could easily achieve a similar effect.....
....but I feel that might be running into the Spiderman 3 syndrome for this particular movie, where they try to cram too much into a single film.
Like, first you have Godzilla, then you have Muto's, then a second Godzilla? AND we got human characters to focus on?
That seems like a tall order if they are going to do each of those elements justice.
I'm not opposed to the idea of two Godzilla's in principle, but it needs to be done right. Right now the movie just looks a little crowded to do it right. But who knows. Maybe in a sequel?
As far as the "surprise" speculation everyone has been doing for the HALO jump and train scene.....I really do feel like those are just regular old MUTO scenes.
You've got to keep mind that while we Godzilla fans already KNOW there are going to be multiple monsters in the movie.....the general public is JUST NOW catching HINTS that it might be a thing. So for those who are only casually following this film's development, who only think Godzilla will be in it, the appearance of a MUTO at any time at all, would the make the movie "400% more awesome" as it's being put.
We've just got to keep in mind, we already know WAY MORE about this film than the average movie goer. So something that would make it 400% more awesome for us at this point would have to be pretty over the top. What's 400% more awesome for general audiences is PROBABLY something we know about already and isn't going to surprise us.
Sad but true. Such are the consequences of following a film's development so closely.
I don't know much about these monsters, except for what I've read about them online. I'd have to go with Bagan since he seems to be the most powerful of the three and the most awesome.
people are just butthurt its not destroyah/another giant lizard.
There is also still the possibility of more godzillas. I'm stil in two minds about this however as they could take away from the king himself but make for a more stunning visual in the movie?
Bagan, definitely. He deserves a movie, because he was turned down so many times (even though he appeared in Super Godzilla). :(
From what we've seen, I see no resemblence to an insect in these creatures. :O They look more like deep sea beasts or aliens. :O
Oh ya, we have definitely been eating up all this leaks stuff me included at times, I was just saying that if that eight legged and winged species is the only type in the movie many are going to complain that they were lazy in design and ripped off cloverfeild blah, blah. I actually like the designs but you know there will be people just itching to put the film down.
Is that vinyl? It looks like vinyl to me.
Well, you're comaparing a piece of plastic to a computer animated visual

Okay guys, I'm locking this topic. I don't want anyone arguing here.
So I'm definitely of the opinion that there will be more than two types of MUTO in the movie.
However, I do think on the whole, we are getting generally entitled and upset over promises Edwards and Legendary NEVER made.
We got ourselves worked up about the "two Muto" theory, "Winged Muto" and "8-Legged Muto" and other 'multiple monster' stuff from leaks and toys that we were never supposed to see.
Legendary NEVER promised us multiple kinds of Muto. Maybe there will be only ONE type of Muto, just multiple individuals of the same type. Somtimes it flies, sometimes it doesn't.
People criticizing the vision, design, or blandness seem to be forgetting that it's only bland if Legendary said they would be designing two different types of original monsters and that's what they came up with. Except they NEVER promised that. Those are words we've shoved into their mouths with leaks, and are now getting upset with them over false promises we made to ourselves on their behalf.
I dunno, regardless of how many monsters are in the movie, I think many of our perspectives about the similarity between the monsters thus far is skewed.
