Now I know why people told me not to use this site because People act like they have seen the movie and someone said it has been confirmed Godzilla has gills I smell bullshit because I keep up with everything and just because Gareth is making the movie realistic doesn't mean Godzilla has to have gills because Garth already said how the movie will be realistic and actually it's not a fact that he has gills because you don't know what those things are nobody does but the interviewr in tohokingdom mentioned then flaps of skin
Yeah, I agree with Madison. I have had many reptiles and they do have slow movements, but when threatened or startled, they have quick reactions.
40 mph? Nah. He takes huge steps and this one right here seems to be more agile and faster than the previous Godzilla's(excluding 1998). I'd say at least 150 or more who knows. His walking speed might be around 50-70
For me it's the buildup for the scene and that makes it. Now I know all the precursors for how this happened. I see scene for scene basically of him having to be the 1 to trap her in there( a scene that would have been been left out) Knowing that she was going to die didn't really matter but actually showing it was him closing the door in a preview was just too much for me. That would have been a surprising moment at the theaters, but now I feel it's ruined and sure I have their dialogue but 1 can roughly guess how that's going to go now that we've seen so much. Basically him saying he's sorry and he loves her and her something along that line of take care of the kids ect. Just a little less of the scene would have been so much better.
Of course this is all my preference but I feel the trailer crossed some lines in that particular case.

Like maybe not fast steps, but they would still cover significant distance, which is all that matters when measuring speed: distance/time.......not how many steps it took to get there.
A person, even an Olympic althlete in a dead sprint likely couldn't cover the distance of a single Godzilla step in the time it would take Godzilla to take one. Meaning Godzilla probably plods along in the 30-40 MPH ballpark when he's just walking.
When he's running (if we see him run/charge) he probably would be in the 100+ MPH range.
According to the Trendmasters trading cards back in '94, largely based on the Heisei Godzilla stats, he can move at 40 mph and swim at a speed of 40 knots.
But when Trendmasters decided to re-release the Godzilla toy in a more accurate gray coloring, they sold the repaint under the moniker "Supercharged Godzilla". Those trading cards stated he could move 100 mph...
Neither are probably legitimate, but who knows. It's a place to start...
That submarine shot is indeed amazing. It makes you wonder how it got there.
Tako... Interesting choice. It's been so many years since I've watched King Kong vs. Godzilla... it's probably about time I replace my long, decimated copy...
It's hard to tell. Many of the shots so far convey the slow and lumbering Heisei style of movement.
But others have made him look a little more nimble and/or capable of quick bursts or strikes, like a lizard or a snake chasing prey.
I HOPE they make him flexible and fast to a certain degree. Stiff and slow limits the range of fighting techniques Godzilla can use. It also eliminates some of the potential scary elements if Godzilla can't sneak or leap or anything like that.
He doesn't need to be as nimble as the MUTO or anything, but I do hope it's a little less Heiseish than what I'm afraid it might be right now.
I think specifically what will make the scene touching will be the specific dialogue that they share.
The fact that they die in and of itself isn't moving. There are meaningless character deaths (even of main characters) that lack emotional weight all the time. And this particular trailer didn't even spoil the fact that she was going to die. We already knew that, because as you mentioned, most people figured that out in the very first trailer in December.
Seeing as the death wasn't a surprise, and how the emotional level of a scene is largely dependent on how the scene is crafted, rather than the fact that the scene merely exists, I really don't think this most recent trailer spoiled or ruined the scene any more than it already was by previous trailers.
On the other hand, letting people know that there will be some emotional depth by teasing this scene is a great way to let people know that this movie isn't just Pacific Rim 2. It's a great scene to show to entice non-Godzilla fans to see the film.
For example, my roommate (who hates Godzilla, but likes Breaking Bad and Juliette Binoche) watched this trailer, and afterwards said: "Well this movie doesn't look like it's going to be as bad as it could be"....which is a HIGH compliment coming from them given their previous disposition, and means they probably will actually see it. This change of heart definitely didn't come from seeing Godzilla roar or seeing the MUTO's claw. I'm 95% sure it came from seeing that scene in the trailer.
Besides, I feel like there will still be weight to this scene to be experienced in theaters that the trailers haven't gotten to yet.
That all being said, I do hope that other than POSSIBLY the 2013 Comic-Con trailer, that they stop releasing new footage. I'm more than satisfied with what they've released so far. They've put together a great package to pitch to people with what they've already shown. The key now, I think is shift gears from showing off new stuff, to showing that stuff to more people. Awareness, rather than content spoiling needs to be the key for the remainder of the marketing. The content will do a great job selling itself, it just needs to be seen!!!
I feel like you guys are missing the point. I'm not saying it's a big part of the film, but it could have been a very tearjerking moment had I not seen the whole thing prior to the movie's release due to a trailer.
It's been well established since nearly the beginning in 2012 when the first teaser came out that Godzilla would have his atomic breath.
It's a fact that he has it. It just hasn't been shown on screen, and for good reason. They want us to be in awe when it shows up so they can't spoil it now.
But he has it.
No doubts. No worries.
He has it.
It's no assumption.
They are gills.
It's plain for you to see every time you get a clear shot of Godzilla. After all, to breath underwater, he has to have them.
Not a single creature in the history of the world has been capable of respirating underwater without the use of gills. Anyone who says that dinosaurs could do it is an idiot who has obviously never studied dinosaurs nor animal biology in any way, shape or form.
In order to breath underwater, he must have gills. It's a law of nature that even Godzilla can't ignore. If he didn't have gills, he'd drown. Simple as that. This is non negotiable and undeniable. And it fits the whole "realistic" thing Gareth is going for and it doesn't really detract from Godzilla anyway.
They are gills dude. Just accept it already. It's no assumption, it's a fact.
It is possible. Gareth didn't mention them by name, but their mouth shape is fairly Muto esque.
However, I'd say that Starship Trooper bugs were a larger inspiration, evidenced by the sharp curves rather than the slightly smoother droop of the Graboids mouths.
Given the shape of his legs, torso, and the girth of him, I'd expect him to move at around Heisei Godzilla speeds. AKA, lumbering and slow. Further evidence of this is in the footage of Godzilla Smash 3 when Godzilla walks through the city. Slow moving, hunched forward, but capable of delivering some fairly rapid swipes with his hands and perhaps a stomp or two with his foot if absolutely necessary.
But yes, I'd say that lumbering Heisei speed is about where it's going to be for the vast majority of the film.
I've been having dreams about this movie for years! Unfortunately, in the last one I had, the movie was worse than I expected. I hope that wasn't a prophetic dream!
Believe me, when we see Godzilla fighting the Mutos, this scene will be quickly forgotten.
There's more to the movie than her tragic death, and it's probably going to focus mainly on the father/son relationship as well as their fight to survive and save the world, this is my guess. If it was a part of the plot that's meant to be hidden, they wouldn't have thrown it out there so blatantly, IMO.

It's funny; I think if the internet was this accessable in 98 we would have had exactly the same reactions. Not saying this one will be as bad as the 98 one but no doubt people would be posting about how it willl have the best characters, and be the greatest movie in the series.

i had a weird dream about godzilla
i was in my house playin video games then nyan cat came into my room flying around then i heard a loud noise that sounded like an explosion and when i turned around nyan cat was gone(nyan cat noooooo!!!!). i went outside to see it then it turned completely dark even though it was still morning and next my own monster i created in my dream awakened. i don't have a name for it though but when i was awake i decided to call it horror skull. horror skull was red, had four long spider like hands and a tail similar to destoroyah's and its face...... its face was an evil skull with mysteriously sharp teeth with cracks along the forehead think red from the godzilla nes creepypasta but give him sharp teeth and glowing red lights comin from his eye holes then ZILLA came yes the godzilla reject then soon the thing died when it died i saw the tristar horse and nyan cat out of nowhere then they flew up into space(weird...) Zilla died not from horror skull but godzilla's atomic breath then zilla's innards turned into popcorn (i am not eating that!!!) though it looked like it was cheese then godzilla was there fighting horror skull all his might and his weird attack from godzilla vs megalon (that was awesome) but horros skull unleashed his powerful mega breath but before he did godzilla was all bloody and he was on his nuclear meltdown(i don't know how that happened) then horror skull unleashes..........his nyan cat breath attack while godzilla unleashes his ultimate atomic breath attack nearly destroying everything when the energy merged everything stopped and turned white when i was gonna see what happens next i woke up. can yo tell me what my dream was about!!!! (im tired)
