Dang... I just read the note from Chris... that sucks. I get that they want to be secretive and whatnot, but the fact is it's still out on the internet now, there's no getting that footage back. That being said, I showed that footage to quite a few people over the weekend, some of which weren't that excited for the film, and it got people WAY more excited for the movie!! I understand Chris's hands are tied here... I just feel WB is making a mistake by trying to keep that footage away from people.
A lot of people have been saying it's big G but it's mostly the receding water I was talking about, godzilla wouldn't be able to bring in that much water.
I'm perfectly fine with "Jurassic Park" style action. The Man of Steel destruction was just ridiculous to say the least, the damage caused in that movie would be fine with Godzilla but for human sized characters and one trying to save the city it was just stupid. I asked myself through out the movie what was the point of superman saving it?
think of it like you are swimming in a pool and approaching the edge of the pool, when you get there the water will slightly rise and create waves temporarily because you are dispersing the water with your body, now image a 200 foot (or whatever the size) monster doing this, the effect will be much bigger, plus him actually getting up and out of the water disperses a ton of water as well
this is some good stuff
Holy Godzilla with a side order of fries...... that was in-depth. And now it all makes sense. They weren't simply bombing him because they were scared. They were at war with Godzilla. An entirely nuclear war. If this information is even represented at a fraction of what was covered here..... that would mean Godzilla was the reason for eventual nuclear prohibition across the world.
MUTO certainly looks better in motion then the toys weve been getting (well obviously). I'm liking the gestures and movements it makes, it has a powerful roar, although generic and not very memorable like other monsters, it has a lionistic yet at times very insect like roar.
MikeyNamez beat me to it. Man that was magnificent!
Am I the only one who hopes it'll be like the 1954 breath? Yes? Okay.
I've wondered about that too, despite G's immense size, would that enough to cause a tsunami like that, with the water receding away from the beach? If anything, he 'd cause a "storm surge" of water. Hmmm!
Cool ideas so far. I seriously think some of the kaiju designs here will make a real good advesary for Godzilla. Keep them coming!
I worked in marketing for 20 years for a major studio.
Here are 5 reasons why there is so much advertising for Godzilla 2014:
(1) The X-Men movie is coming out the following week. So the studios need Godzilla to kick but right out of the gate because the competition for dollars will be strong after the first week.
(2) Since the last American version of Godzilla was so bad, the studios need the general public to know that this Godzilla will be a a much better experience. That's why they are showing Godzila in the trailers. They want us to know that this Godzilla is the REAL Godzilla. Don't be surprised to see Godzilla's atomic breath in the final trailer right before the movie's opening.
(3) The studios think they have a blockbuster on their hands. They need us to go out right away in order to generate word of mouth. Because word of mouth will determine if Godzilla grosses $500 million or $1 billion.
(4) The movie came in under budget. So they are using the money saved for advertising.
(5) The studios recognize that there is excitement in the air. They need to keep the buzz going. Anticipation means box-office dollars. If the studios had it to do all over again, i bet they would have premiered Godzilla last week, two weeks after Captain America and two weeks before Spiderman. But they probably surmised that "Transendence" was going to do a lot better than it did.
So don't be concerned about the volume of advertising. My experience (and my gut feeling) tells me that Godzilla 2014 will be worth the wait.
Woah, déjà vu. I feel like I've read this and the comments before. Weird.
Ah well, that aside. I am glad someone decided to make this clear. Good job Junkerde, and thank you very much. I was confused by all the information.
Well, Easter is over, meaning it's once again time to ask me questions.
That's alright, no need to be sorry. Just a simple mistake :)
Thank you guys for the replies. In response though, how would godzila cause the water to recede? Or cause a typhoon? And the spoilers stating that he is forced forward by his ancient enemies could just mean that he would have been fine swimming around after he was released instead he fights them.
The name "Talaghan" is just troll.Official nickname by fans is Vishnu.I heard that the monster died fast in the movie.Godzilla ripped off it`s throat and continuted to attack him with Atomic Breath.
UPDATE #11: Amazon pre-orders / prices for Destroy All Monsters and Godzilla vs. Megalon Blurays added to the original post.
Like Tsuburaya's special effects I doubt there will be much blood or gore involved. The Wondercon footage suggests something of a Spielbergian style where there shots are fairly wide and easy to take in when the director wants to reveal key action. So I doubt we'll see any slow-mo or anything overly gory or gimmicky shots. Edwards seems to be playing this movie fairly old school. So far the Wondercon footage suggests a level of violence/action akin to Jurassic Park.
Thanks Danzilla, and with that, no more Wondercon thread repeats.
Sparkzilla's assessment is correct for some movies, but not all. There's a difference between strong ad campaigns, and panicking ad campaigns.
Iron Man? Batman Begins? Godzilla '14? Those are strong ad campaigns trying to launch franchises.
Green Lantern? GINO? Those are panicking ad campaigns. Examples of studios throwing money at ads because they know they have a train wreck on their hands. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is looking awfully close to that as well...
I think the advertising for Godzilla has been fine so far. Strong. Not underwhelming and nothing to suggest the studio is panicking.
As for Captain America: Winter Soldier, I liked the movie. I thought it was good, but nothing spectacular. That said, I don't think it's the best example of less advertising equals better movie. First, Winter Soldier is good, but that good. Second, like Something Real said, the Marvel Studios films are riding on the very successful coatails and universe of The Avengers. Some of the best advertising for Winter Soldier happened in 2012.
Totally agree with Valkorin.
Godzilla is a Nuclear Bomb and Godzilla can absorb nuclear energy and transmute it.
If Muto is Red and Godzilla is Blue then the story will be setup with the classic Hollywood motif seen in so many other SciFi films.
Godzilla and all Muto's are created by nuclear energy.
Man's arrogant attempts at harnessing the power of the atom pale in comparison to natures ability to do what comes... naturally.
Double Smash is the Nintendo DS version, right? Never played it, but the graphics alone were a major turn off. I heard it was fairly redundant as well which a trait that kills most games.
A man made natural prison eh?...Sounds very Final Warsish. A cool proposal no doubt, but I can't say for certain if that fits. Very interesting talk DYNAMICPEANUT. That username lol. You're the best, really. I guess we will witness the truth come may 16th.
This is totally different then what this article is about but I'm wondering if they used the mysterious "Bloop Sound" in the pacific ocean to explain something weird or something of the unknown for godzilla. You know pretend it's godzilla making that noise not some iceberg.
@JUNKERDE - Fair enough, however the difference between the two of you is that she did not attempt to counter my "uncivil" response with another uncivil response. In doing that you've successfully accomplished nothing. Honestly, I understand what happened here. You truly have my apologies. On a side note, if I dropped more lolz in that first response of mine we probably wouldn't be having this discussion right now :)
This is easy.
Godzilla would be immune to any atomic plasma.
Godzilla cannot be harmed or killed by the very thing that created it.
In fact, it makes total sense that this would be Godzilla's natural weapon.
Godzilla is killed at the end of the original 1954 movie by an oxygen destoying weapon
IMO Godzilla's Nuclear Breath should be a blinding flash like a nuclear bomb ignition and a ray of pure energy destroying everything it touches.
No Nulcear Breath?
Then its not Godzilla.
@kage342
that's right. even SomethingReal interpreted your response the same as me. Yes I failed to interpret the response because obviously it's SO easy to tell someone's motivation behind just text on a screen alone.
@SOMETHING REAL - No worries. This actually happens to me quiet often topside. Some people understand me but I should spend my time understanding you guys. I just get too excited at times for lack of a better word
The control is just bad in my opinion. The idea sounded awsome the monster of your chose recating to you sounds epic giving the player a true sences of power, the idea is epic on paper. The execution however was another story, the control was just so poor that it just killed it for me. If GU came out on ps3 or xbox 360 thing might have been different but can't change the past.
And I really don't think its angles. After all I've seen I find that a bit silly, and I mean no offense by that lol. But hell, if it is then more power to you guys for sticking with your points. But If the Muto are leeching Roidzilla, I think its entirely realistic in the universe that Gareth has established for his spines to show the physical effects of such a drain. And I do respect you guys, honestly, your my G family, even the trigger happy ones like Junkerde. So I apologize again. I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. I'll pay attention so that I choose my words more carefully.
I guess finding something funny is a crime on this site. I didn't know that responding with firm and honest conviction with a hint of personal humor was the equivalent of uncivil behavior. Or maybe you should pipe down a bit and refrain from attacking people after failing to interpret their responses JUNKERDE. I do apologize if I came off as rude, that was not the intent behind my response. I don't take it back either. I was really amused with the "Godzilla shrinking is crazy" train of thought. That's my opinion and like I said before, I AGREE with you all on the point that it might just be a cgi error in some instances.
