I see it like this.

After the pulse, Godzilla dorsal plates need to take time to heal. So when he faces against Kong, they're fragile. He can't use the atomic breath too much, for he fears they'll break. Mecha-Godzilla then fight him and breaks the dorsal plates,making the atomic cloud coming out of his back we seen in Aftershock.

So the armor on his back in this case for me is to replace and protect the dorsal plates. Which might give him the Spiral Heat Ray.

macumbalove Hi. Little wake-up call here. Just because some people are rooting for Kong doesn't make them "socially deviant, overweight mouth breathers". It just means they have a different opinion. This isn't some big moral/ethical debate, it's a movie about a big gorilla fighting a radioactive dinosaur. People have the right to prefer one monster over the other if one works better for them.

And that's coming from a guy who's thoroughly #TeamGodzilla. I want to see my boy Goji win. But if he doesn't, I'm not gonna flip my lid over it. Because at the end of the day, it isn't anything to get seriously worked up over.

It is a good point- Godzilla is the established KOTM right now. If he loses, the other creatures might feel emboldened to challenge the new King. I don't think Kong could handle that.

LMAO! This site is getting just as dumb as Toho Kingdom. They have one shot to get this right,(They won't, But that's a different discussion) and if you piss off the Godzilla fans to "do something different" and cater to the 9 Kong fan boys, The monsterverse will end, And it will end badly. This is the only G forum I'm somewhat active on, And when I read the utter stupidity on here and other forums I can understand why the smart people say the fandom is garbage. While I don't want either to die (Seems like the general consensus) I still agree with you. Kong should win.

And if there's one thing that's almost a staple of Kong, it's tragedy. The tragedy of his home being soiled by outside invaders, and how he fell fighting against those same invaders.

I don't think the final battle will take place on or over Skull Island. We know that there will be a battle in Hong Kong at some point, presumably later in the film.

Oh, the end battle will probably most deffinately be in Hong Kong. The first battle will probably be on Skull Island.

Calling it now, Skull Island gets destroyed or something like that, and it takes Godzilla and Kong's rivalry to new levels.

I think that's going to be his motivation too.

Also, we must consider the stakes of the fight. What will the outcome be if one of them wins? Godzilla's the current Alpha Titan, so what will that mean if Kong bests him?

I was going to put something on that in here, but I kind of felt like it belonged in a different discussion (oh well). 

I probably should have clarified that I don't want Kong to kill off Godzilla. Kong's motives might not be to become the new alpha titan of the earth. We haven't seen enough marketing to be sure, but Kong is very protective over his island, and he may see Godzilla as a threat to it. Kong is the alpha on Skull Island, and Godzilla very well could change that, as it seems the skull crawlers and other creatures on the island will bow down to him now, not Kong. 

Like you said, Kong and Godzilla could see eye-to-eye and respect each other, but in order for that to happen, Kong might have to beat Godzilla to show him that the island is his home, and it belongs to him. If Kong killed him, the earth would be overrun by monsters, so I don't think it's likely that will happen.

...I see your point. But I still kinda want Godzilla to win this one. On a franchise-wide level, Kong already beat Godzilla back in 1962. I mean, I'm not going to go insane of Kong beats him, but I'd still prefer it if Goji won.

But at the end of the day, I think I just want to see the two of them come to respect each other as worthy opponents and fellow Alphas, no matter who wins. Like if Godzilla wins, Kong still put up a good fight and Godzilla is impressed, and if Kong wins, Godzilla is still impressed and leaves Kong alone out of respect. Something like that.

It just doesn't bother me at all. I prefer an all Godzilla line of this caliber and am grateful for it. If I want Titanosaurus or King Ghidorah, I'll just look for another line to grab'em.

True, and I am very grateful that there's and affordable line of well-articulated, fairly accurate Godzilla figures in the first place, that's a childhood dream come true.

The problem is that there aren't other lines of this caliber. Aside from SHMA, the only representation for the majority of my favorite kaiju are either immobile statues or barely poseable vinyl figures. NECA is pretty much my only avenue for the type of figures I like, and them refusing to branch out, especially after we got a taste of what that could be like with KOTM, is what frustrates me.

I forgot some so I guess this is round 2.

Legendary Godzilla's design isn't anything special

Ghidorah, Mothra, MechaGodzilla and to some degree Rodan should go on a long hiatus from appearing in a G movie again.

Kong Skull Island is the best movie in the Monsterverse so far

Godzilla vs Mothra 92 is an underrated Heisei movie.

Godzilla Save The Earth is the best Godzilla game we've gotten.

I don't mind the monsterverse ending with Godzilla vs Kong

The anime trilogy was probably the biggest wasted potential I've seen in the series.

-James Bannon's 1989 Godzilla 2 draft, featuring Godzilla facing an army of machines run by an advanced supercomputer, actually sounds like a really cool idea.

-Speaking of machines, Berserk should have been the Heisei Mechagodzilla. He would've been a lot more interesting than what we got...

It's funny. For the longest time, I never really liked it when people applied the term "cringe" to movies. I just like the term was never truly felt like it was applicable to cinematic entertainment (outside of maybe something really gory), and that it was just the product of an extremely passionate movie culture.

Then I actually saw 1998, and I suddenly got it.

Which I'm fine with. I love having a long line of Godzillas on my shelf evolving from the original to the present and I hope we get even more. This has never really happened before and I'm glad there's at least one line with this kind of dedication to it.

There's plenty of other lines with other monsters, taking away from the possibility of other Godzilla designs. So I'm more than content with this--In fact I'm grateful it's happening.

Might as well. Though I figure I rattle these these off all the time:

- There's only been 2-3 truly good Godzilla movies since 1989.

- All Monsters Attack is better than all of the 1990s movies.

- The Monsterverse has evolved into a by-the-numbers missed opportunity that does nothing new with the franchise.

- King of the Monsters '19 is a bottom 10 Godzilla flick.

- Monsterverse Godzilla makes a better Gamera than Godzilla.

- G'98 is a cringe inducing example of bad 1990s filmmaking tossed in a blender, "Godzilla" in the title or not.

- Outside of Honda, Fukuda was the best and, more directly, most resourceful director of the franchise.

- Rodan is a fine film, but overrated.

- On the flip side, Giant Monster Varan is incredibly underrated.

- No kaiju film has been as good as Gamera 3: The Revenge of Iris since it was released.

- Scientific accuracy has no place in this genre.

- The Anime Trilogy isn't too shabby and is easier to rewatch than the Monsterverse or the 1990s flicks.

- Pacific Rim is the best giant monster movie Legendary has released.

- Tsuburaya Productions, and their Ultraman output, is the most creative example of the genre this era. ("Era" being a fairly broad term, so we'll say over the last decade.)

G. H. (Gman): Really? Don't get me wrong, I love getting lots of different Godzillas, but it's driving me nuts that they won't branch out into other TOHO kaiju. I can only put so many Godzilla figures on my shelf before the lack of variety gets to me. I'd kill for an articulated Titanosaurus or Anguirus of this quality and price range, but the likelihood of that is sadly extremely low.

I think Godzilla vs King Ghidorah is the worse Godzilla movie ever: Time Traveling plot that makes no sense, the weird Steven Spielberg reference, and that stupid flamboyant android-thingy

Shin Godzilla makes a better Mock-Godzilla villain in vein of Space Godzilla, Biollante, Orga, and Mechagodzilla than a bonafide Godzilla

G98/Zilla could have been a good scientifically accurate Godzilla if they would have kept the traditional godzilla atomic breath and personality

From what I've gathered from other sites, this seems to be based off the suit from this film that they used for the water scenes, which was then retooled for GvKG, so the similarities make sense.
