Like five seconds before posting this idea came to mind. It wasn't necessarily serious, just something that I thought about, and figured I might as well just post it here, see if it was even a decent idea.

On what basis do you believe Maleficent and Oz may equal or outweigh Godzilla's hype then? Sure not very many people know about it, but you could say the same for the prior mentioned movies. I'd argue that, at present, the buzz surrounding Godzilla is still much larger than those two combined. Take a look: This Site shows how the leaked trailer projected Google search interest in Godzilla. If you do the same research for the Oz flick or Maleficent, they're not even close to the spike Godzilla had earlier this month. Meanwhile if you type in "Maleficent" into the Google News you'll roughly 3 thousand hits. If you type in "Godzilla 2014," over 5 thousand hits. But most people won't be typing that, they'd simply search "Godzilla" in which you get 10 thousand hits. Keep in mind these aren't webpages, their news outlets covering the films. I agree that they're all on vaguely even ground at the moment, but long term that may not be the case. I've already explained my case for Oz and Maleficent on various levels and while I concede that Spider-Man and X-Men may be a so-called "threat" the idea that they'll completely topple Godzilla (especially Spider-Man) is currently unfounded.

Thank you! Really! I don't write stories often but this was fun so it's good to hear good feedback. I'm thinking of posting a few more of other's people that witnessed the same event. I think I want the characters to have all had some form of contact with each other. Like the next one would be the guy who delivered the take out for this character etc...

MilqueChocolateGodzilla 2014 ForumGareth's "Destroy All Monsters"
@BCrockett94 I know it does sound like Final Wars, i am with you on that. Although, the monsters were released off of Monster island and all the kaiju attacked. Godzilla attacked New York City, Rodan attacked Moscow, Mothra lays waste to Beijing, Gorosaurus attacks Paris, and Manda attacks London. I know I should have made the discussion specific, I made this right before I left school! If I make another discussion, I will try to make it better and make sure no one has made the same one already. Sorry for the rush.

and even should Gareth/Legendary produce such a movie they definitely need to make at least 1 or 2 sequels before it just so the series can bring about the appearances of a few more monsters and build up the story to the point of a Destroy All Monsters-esk sequel.

GODZILLA-ABOVE-ALLGodzilla 2014 ForumMy estimation on the 2014 Godzilla size!
This new Godzilla made by the Legendary is confirmed to be the biggest Godzilla at least up to the 2014 movie. So , how BIG will this Godzilla be in this ? What I can see in that trailer is that this new Godzilla will be at least up to ~ well I\\\'m not really sure , but that looks like this New G \\\'s size will be at least over 1000\\\' . And I have a theory that maybe our New G we saw in the trailer has not yet reached his/her full size or maybe he/she is just a preschool age Godzilla , that means our New G will still grow a lot much much more BIGGER.

I don't really feel Godzilla's hype outweighs that of Maleficent, or the OZ movie. Sure it's big here, but a lot of these fans have been following the movie since it was Godzilla 3d to the MAX. To the average person I doubt they know much about the movie if anything at all. The only real people that know are G fans, and comic con attendants. There's been nothing revealed to the public and the teaser that was leaked was taken away in the span of a few days so most people still haven't seen it unless actively looking. In hype alone the only movie that has a teaser out so far is spiderman so they all are on pretty even ground after that.

It might not do as well as everything else on opening weekend, but I feel it's going to do good overall, kind of like Avatar, but probably not as much money (2.7 billion dollars is a pretty tough to beat number), I'd be willing to bet that Godzilla gets at least 400 million opening day, warranting a sequel (as it'd more than double the budget of 150 million dollars), but that's just a prediction. I don't think we're gonna see Godzilla annihilate the box office competition, but we'll get a sequel for sure... Even if the movie is gonna be like Pacific Rim. I don't expect Kaiju films to be the new, big thing in Hollywood until people get bored of Superhero films.

Wraith, it was test footage. They just wanted to get people excited for the movie, but they didn't start filming when they released the test footage at San Diego Comic Con 2012. That footage was edited to display a different looking creature, which people describe as being grey, and looking like one of the bugs from Starship Troopers and the cloverfield monster in one.

BCrockett94Godzilla 2014 ForumGareth's "Destroy All Monsters"
Gareth Edward had only implied that he might consider a Monster Island movie. He never said anything about it being a sure thing, or even something that would be truly taken into consideration. This has been a topic discussion several times, and we've already concluded that it was simply something the director would take into consideration. Also, regarding your list... 1. .... 2. This is beginning to sound like Final Wars. 3. Yep, definitely Final Wars. 4. You do mean antagonists... Right? Right? Are humans and Godzilla the bad guys in your ideal movie? It would be impossible to portray the Monster Island movies with any realism. The 2014 movie's goal of being realistic is already going to be hard enough to suspend our beliefs, asking us to turn off our brain that much for a realistic Monster Island movie is asking for way too much. Ghidorah, any of them (King, Keizer, Des) have not been loaned to Legendary, as such, assuming Ghidorah makes an appearance is a extremely hopeful at best, at this current time. If you want to see a more modern version of Destroy All Monsters, just go watch Final Wars. It was a decent enough film that highly resembled what Destroy All Monsters was, besides a few elements. That being said, the next movie (should one be made) will probably involve one of the monsters (maybe the eight legged smaller muto(s)) from the 2014 movie and a maybe one or two new monsters that are Legendary creations. I don't like the idea of them using any of Toho's monsters in a REBOOT. They asked to use Godzilla, fine, but I like some degree of originality from reboots, but doesn't stray TOO far from the source material (picky picky, us Godzilla fans are).

It could use some paragraph breaks, but this is actually one of the more interesting fan fiction I've read and definitely the best I've seen here. I love the first person/slice-of-life approach to it: A short and sweet detailed account of someone surviving through one of Godzilla's battles. Well done. Entertaining style.

The Amazing Spider-Man was only #1 at the box office for 1 week. It dropped to #2 the second week with an attendance drop of 43% and The Dark Knight Rises had yet to come out. And because it was the seventh highest grossing movie of the year actually says less about the industry as a whole than it does in favor of the film. (For example, if The Amazing Spider-Man only made one dollar, and was still somehow the seventh best selling movie of the year, is that still a success? Nope. You have to factor in budget and attendance.) I'm not sure where this idea that most movies stay #1 for two weeks or more came from. It's a rare feat these days that's only accomplished by a select few. The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises and Iron Man 3 did it, sure, but they're exceptions not the norm. Rival studios expected this which is why Star Trek into Darkness was released two weeks after Iron Man 3 and not one. Clearly studios aren't too afraid of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 at the moment. If Godzilla is #1 at the box office for one week that would be a massive success and it's all the movie really needs. #1 for two weeks is a pipe dream for most studios. I also think you overestimate the "potential hits." The Oz movie and the Disney movie are nowhere on the hype radar for most media outlets and probably will have very little press in comparison to Godzilla, X-Men and Spider-Man. They sound more like calendar fillers than potential box office "hits".

Yes but even being the lowest grossing spiderman is was still the 7th highest grossing film of 2012, and probably managed to stay #1 at the box office for a few weeks till dark knight rises was released, and this is what is a worrying fact. If they can stay at the top for 2 weeks then Godzilla loses any chance, as another movie comes out right behind it, blocking it again from possibly reaching that #1 spot. Even if it does take the number 1 spot it will still most likely lose it within a week. Coming out between 2 superhero movies is just all around a bad idea on the planning front if this. This month is more packed with potential hits than any month before it, If you include Godzilla that's 5 potential blockbusters in a span of around 4 weeks with godzilla right in the middle, which is arguably the worst spot to be.

Honestly at this point in the game there is still a lot we don't know. We've had glimpses but until we get at least a full trailer I don't think we could know the answer to that question. I know if it does turn out the big G was brought back to his roots as a terrifying force of nature they would probably love it as that was their intention. One thing's for sure. They'd be just as excited as we are to see what Gareth Edwards does with the character and the film as a whole.

The budget for Godzilla, X-Men Days of Future Past and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 haven't officially been released. James MacAvoy said X-Men is the second most expensive movie Fox has ever produced. The first is Avatar which had a budget of $450 million, including promotional expenses. I doubt X-Men's is close to that, but if what McAvoy is saying is true then it's probably around the $300 million mark. The only reports for The Amazing Spider-Man 2's budget are two or three sources claiming it has a budget of "over $100 million". That could mean anything, but it sounds like Sony made the budget smaller than the last one. Hard to tell. As for Godzilla, I've heard rumors of anywhere between $160-$190 million. But there's also a rumor going on that Edwards turned down a good chunk of the production budget and made Godzilla for $90 million. (Which wouldn't be too surprising considering he pulled off Monsters with a budget of only half a million.) The reality is these are all guesses by both myself and media outlets piled with rumors started by fans of all three franchises. We won't know the final budgets until around the time these movies come out.

TheGMan123Godzilla 2014 ForumRealism in 2014 Godzilla Discussion
All us G-fans really want in our Godzilla for this film is for his powerful status to remain like that, perhaps even exceed that of his predecessors. Key things include being impervious to any significant damage from military armaments (that means all those fancy missile strikes too!),an atomic breath that can level entire city blocks without effort (in fact,I think total vaporization would be better in this film),and a knack for never showing any signs of slowing down from anything short of an oxygen destroyer or nuclear meltdown.

@GMAN115 You\'re right, TriStar should have followed "Gojira's" characteristics, but they wanted money. I have a lot of confidence in this movie because I watched Gareth Edward's "Monsters", and I thought it was beautiful for a low-budget film. Now with all of the materials at his disposal, he will be able to make a greater film. He likes realism because he was thinking,(and this is a quote directly from him) "What if someone from ToHo actually saw this creature and ran back to the studio to try to make an exact representation." According to this movie, if Godzilla was an actual creature of mass destruction (we would all be screwed if he was), how would we act or what would our actions be or possibly, how would are military respond to the threat? He also wanted to make Godzilla specifically as realistic as possible.

Unfortunately, Gareth isn't the person who will be "throwing" any trailer our way. That job belongs to WB. And if history has taught us anything when it comes to WB, they are the worst at marketing these kind of movies. Just look at Pacific Rim. And I will stick to my theory . We won't see a trailer until March.

G. H. (Gman)Godzilla 2014 ForumWho here besides me misses Akira Ifukube??
As much as I respect Ifukube and enjoy his themes, I think it's time to let them go and move on. We have 50 years of Ifukube's music in the series. It dominated the 1960s and nearly beat Godzilla's theme into the ground. Then that same theme (including Godzilla's march from the first film) was used in almost every Heisei movie and the first three Millennium flicks. The most annoying part is it would often play without variation or deviation from how it was arranged 50-60 years ago... No, let Alexandre Desplat do his own thing. I'm looking forward to a new theme for a new generation of Godzilla. I can't wait to hear what Desplat has come up with.

He's right, the comic book superhero genre is the boxoffice gold these days. But history likes to repeat itself and I see The Amazing Spider-Man 2 emulating what the last four have done: Bring in the cash, but with lower attendance. I think X-Men: Days of Future Past has potential to do a lot better than the last two, but even Fox has to understand it's a risk. The last two X-Men films didn't dominate the box office. Like The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Fox was hesitant to go forward with a sequel to First Class. Furthermore, James McAvoy recently said that X-Men: Days of Future Past was perhaps the second most expensive movie Fox ever made. (First would be Avatar.) With that kind of money on the line, and the popularity of X-Men waning, it actually has as much to live up to, if not more, than Godzilla. Even if Godzilla did about as well as Star Trek into Darkness, that's still a domestic take of $120 million more than Pacific Rim and almost half a billion worldwide. I'd be celebrating if it did that.

\"Comic Book Movies are THE Genre nowadays\" Not really when you consider the last few X-men films didn\'t meat up to box office standards as well as the last Spiderman film, as someone pointed out earlier. I think you mean the Marvel Avengers phase 2 films (or anything involving Batman or Superman) are the genre nowadays and none of them are coming out during May.

Hmm not so much as the whole movie but events in them. The two biggest i always see are from Godzilla vs Gigan and Godzilla vs Biolantte Saying Gigan is one of Godzilla\'s most powerful foes. And they always point to the scene where Gigan cuts Godzilla in Godzilla vs Gigan. Lets look at that for minute. Does anyone else remember that Godzilla could barely walk in that movie due to some kind of machine that the aliens were using to lower his combat effectness? Same with Angiusis. And once that machine was blown up Godzilla toke out Gigan no sweat. Saying: Bionallte beat Godzilla into a coma. Yes he did go into hibernate after the fight but it was more due to the anti radiation bacteria then Bionallte. I am sure there are others but i can't think of them atm. Plus those are the two biggest.

@ INSTINCTIVEGIGAN " The dude can use his nuclear abilities for atomic breath and nuclear pulses but he can't get rid of excess radiation that's unheatlhy for him? Nah, don't buy it. I'm not saying he's unkillable but defeating him with the very thing that created him? That's like trying to kill Superman by throwing him into the sun," All star superman had that plot he toke in to much rad from the sun and stuff he didn't die but evolved or something. My guess is it would depend on the power of the nuke and the version of Godzilla and his location to the blast. But most likely he would get hurt to seriously hurt but he would heal and come back stronger.

Godzilla might be the Star Trek Into Darkness of 2014 in terms of box office, except its on a much worse situation. Whereas Star Trek Into Darkness was sandwiched between Iron Man 3 on one side and Fast & Furious 6 and Epic (also The Hangover 3) on the other, this film has 2 compete against and is sandwiched between 2 Superhero films. I'm sorry, but this is the truth: Comic Book Movies are THE Genre nowadays and the MAIN attractions, and its worse when you have the mega film that is X-Men: Days Of The Future Past coming the week after this film. This is why Warner should swap this film for Edge Of Tomorrow, leave this film to the start of June in June 6.

lets see how realistic did they do thor or spider man, let me see how many other comic book characters they have made realistic, STOP WITH THIS DAMN REALISM AS FAR AS GODZILLA GOES, he is a fantasy character a fiction, portray him as such and stop trying to make him a dinosaur, hell even as that he was in mutation already and his full potential or powers or mutation were not documented, the radiation did to him what gamma radiation did to David banner (hulk) but without the ability to revert back to a weaker state, GODZILLA is mans death and should be focused on and realized as just that. he is what he is. I AM THE DESTROYER, I AM THE DEATH OF MY CREATOR.
