KyeroGodzilla Forumthe godzilla vs king ghidorah confusion and spacegodzilla

Also, you guys do know that the Biollante and Mothra theories are still just that right? Theories?

Toho themselves never confirmed which of the two, if it was even either one of them at all, was responsible for SpaceGodzilla's birth. The tusks are cute in reference, but they are not confirmation of any kind beyond the shadow of a doubt that Biollante is the source.

Besides, there's a major issue with the Biollante theory.

If Biollante was the source of the mutation, then Spacegodzilla would have shared more in common with Biollante than Godzilla to begin with due to Biollante being the source material. Godzilla's genes within Biollante's cannot simply be stripped or isolated so that they can conveniently create a Godzilla shaped space monster. Space doesn't work that way because it's not a science laboratory where genetics can be manipulated at will. In a similar fashion as to why radiation doesn't just do what you want it to, space doesn't just do what you want it to.

In fact, Godzilla's flesh attached to Mothra would be the more likely candidate because it is solid 100% Godzilla source matieral. If Godzilla's flesh was attached to Mothra and broke off at any point during her travels for whatever reason and went through the black hole/white hole thing then that would be the perfect source material for Spacegodzilla since it's, again, 100% Godzilla.

Otherwise it would have been Spacebiollante due to Biollante's genes being a much stronger presence than Godzilla's in the genetic mix. If it had been Biollante's genes, then Spacegodzilla would have been Spacebiollante and looked like a strange, warped version of Biollante rather than simply Godzilla.

Besides, the whole Mothra and Biollante debate is rather pointless. We know that Spacegodzilla was a Godzilla inspired creature. Why bother with its true origin which was never confirmed even by its own creators? It's left open to interpretation for a reason, to give you an opinion on the matter to hold close. It's not something that's meant to create pointless debates like this.

But for those who want a more solid answer, the genetics don't lie. Biollante as source material would have created a much more Biollante inspired creature than something that looks near identical to Godzilla only save for a pair of tusks on the corners of his mouth. What else about him looks like biollante? Nothing really. His skin, spines, and even his general movements are all Godzilla inspired. The only thing that's even remotely close is his roar, which was actually Gigan's roar played back at a slower speed. The high pitched screech was similar to Biollante's yell in a small way, but it still isn't enough to confirm in any way that Biollante is the source material for his creation.

If you want the debate to end and a permanent answer found, find a Toho executive who was on board the creative process and ask them which it was. You'll likely get this as an answer: "Which do you think it was?"

This is an interesting debate, but ultimately I don't think it matters what the facts are behind all of this.

The single most important fact is this: Toho acknowledged that the writing of that movie was poorly done and thought out, and that it leaves many open holes in the theories and explanations.

Isn't that enough to put it down and say the idea is cool but could have used a stronger writer?

AkagiGodzilla 2014 ForumPerhaps this should have been the perfect story for a US Godzilla film....

@Kyero

When you make assumptions, you make an ass out of you and me. We don't know exactly WHAT is Godzilla's origin in this new film, he could very well be mildly supernatural.

Besides, realism in design does not equal realism in functin or origin.

So yeah, I'm glad you know exactly what Legendary is going for, must be nice being a know it all.

I don't get fans wanting to tone Godzilla down so its more appealing to other audiences. My opinion is F**K other audiences. I don't like the crap they like, who cares if they like what I like? I'm tired of Godzilla fans wanting something that appeals to everyone-- if it appealed to everyone it wouldn't be Godzilla.

And as far as GMK's 'stupid story'. Every Godzilla movie has an outlandish stupid story, including the first one. If you get to the nitty gritty, the first one has one of the most nonsensical outlandish stories ever, with a special, crazy over powered unrealistic weapon. So lets not split hairs on what is stupid-- because at the end of the day, a movie about anything over 300ft tall not exploding under its own weight is silly and stupid and unrealistic and that is what makes it great.

DihgowGodzilla 2014 ForumThoughts on the ending (just thoughts)

An end with cliffhanger could be good, but if they don't this properly, can ruin the movie... In my opinion, a good ending, will be with Godzilla returning to the ocean, when all efforts to stop him don't work. It would not be a problem for the return of Godzilla in a possible sequel. So, I prefer a definitive ending.

Yes, I agree, An open would be the best. I think, something like the end of Cloverfiel would be great. Just my opinion.

thing is sony could've done it distributed the movies but instead they only release most of the dvds to the american while europe is stuck with their 1998 crap trying to hide the people of europe what the real godzilla is and looks like, even though some godzilla movies were released on vhs at the time of 1998s release.

Anything involving spirits, gods, mythical creatures, or supernatural happenings is going to be related to or grounded in fantasy, simple as that.

Since that's not part of the realism of Legendary's Godzilla design, let alone something that would bring a realistic human reaction, Legendary will never use it. Still, for GMK it was a stupid plot, but it gave us a new look at Godzilla and gave us one of his coolest designs as far as suits are concerned save for the hunchback. Thankfully they fixed it in the toys, but still, the suit looked like a Godzilla version of Quasimodo with that hump on his shoulders.

But yeah, such an idea will NEVER be part of the realism that Legendary is going for.

It's concerning. My guess is that since America is the largest international market for Toho, they focus most of their efforts here. Toho even has their own office in Los Angeles, California.

I have no idea if Toho has the same physical presence in any European country, but my guess is that there's been a lack of effort on both sides: Toho for not focusing more on the European countries and distributors in Europe that aren't convinced there's a market for liscensing Godzilla movies and merchandise.

I know most European collectors out there tend to import from America and buy region-free DVD and Bluray players to play our discs-- which sucks and I sympathize with, but I have no way of knowing how to get European distributors attention. Or American distributors for that matter.

I don't think I'm looking too closely at all. Even if you took this level of criticism to every Godzilla movie and found holes there are at least things to overlook those holes for. Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla has no such luxery. I think it was Norman Englund who reviewed the movie back in the early 2000s and phrased it, "it's a movie that fails on almost every level of production." I can't disagree because there's so little to walk away with except new toy sales.

I'm intrigued about the blood bullet however. When did Yuki use it on SpaceGodzilla? I don't recall that at all. I'm willing to give a pass to an important plot point in this movie that actually did return. But I know for fact the Project-T Godzilla conroller plot device was pretty much dropped by the middle of the film with no real payoff or point.

And giving a monster an origin is fine, but overexplaining that when there are so many holes in other things that deserve attention is not. It's wasted energy that screenwriters could've given to things that needed expanding. These are still professional filmmakers we're talking about and to show a level of incompetence of this magnitude, for any movie, is unacceptable.

The MUTOs are not a specific group of monsters; MUTO will most likely be a codename for the monsters. Thus, the MUTOs do not "look like" mantises, only one of them does.

And there probably will only be two monsters that Godzilla will fight.

Well, I'm certainly not denying that a nuke could be effctive against Godzilla. The heat and radiation aren't the problem, but the concussive force is. I doubt any monster could survive it unscathed. Yep, Godzilla would probably "die" from such an attack. Just like how the original creature that existed before becoming Godzilla "died" from prehistoric radiation.

The same radiation which resurrected it into a walking fossil that replaced the key components of its underlying genetic structure with stronger elements that allowed sturdier and denser body structures like bones and skin to withstand impossibly large amounts of pressure and trauma and be able to stay accurate to the Square Cube Law without faltering under its own weight and produce exotic effects like the atomic breath.

Yep, Godzilla could definitely "die" by a nuke.

undasabi1Godzilla Video Games ForumLet's Design a Godzilla Game!

Now for the most part I agree with the general concept of the game.  I do think that as opposed to a plot driven game, it should play like a giant version of the game infamous or grand theft auto.  What I mean is there should be goals but nothing necessary or super pressing like health drop throughout without power replenishment, but a more gradual drop would be fine so long as the player is willing to player at say 80% power capacity.  The war of the monsters idea is great for the fighting portion!  theres no reason it has to go into hyper lumbering realism with no jumping or the 70s godzilla mobility.  Perhaps you could even had DLC of some sort with alternate playable characters like anguiras, baragon, or even jet jaguar/ultraman.  I love the underwater idea, maybe even have the whales and sharks as edible items if they're big enough?  and HOLY CRAP please after so many years of monster games lets add a character creation mode or something!.. along with an alternate arcade style fighting mode along the lines of destroy all monsters melee just for the folks not satisfied with a monster fight in a fully built up city...

sorry that was longer than i expected lol

Durp004Godzilla ForumWhat would've made G vs SpaceG better

I feel you're really looking too closely at the movie. Some of the things you addressed did turn out. for instance Yuki's blood bullet was used at the end on Space Godzilla along with everything else that was thrown around, so there was at least a point to that, and Godzilla's armpit being weak is just a theory as every movie likes to come up with some sort of theory on how to beat him when he's not portrayed as a protagonist. As for spaceGodzilla's origin I know you have a preference behind the monsters having some mystery, but I'm sure some people like back stories so that's really opinion based. While I found the whole cells subjected to star explosions and thrown into black holes ridiculous too, it was a Godzilla movie so that fact the title included a Godzilla of some sorts from space had me throw my disbelief out the door before the movie began. I don't have a problem with his origin including mothra or Biollante as when the scientists were theorizing where he came from they simply named 2 times Godzilla cells went into outer space. When you are looking for an answer to something and there are multiple ways it could happen of course you'd address both, so I don't see it being a big deal that they talked about both Biollante and Mothra, even if it is clear it was Biollante that spawned SpaceGodzilla just a way to hammer in the continuity of the heisei era.

I really like this idea. The mystical origin of Godzilla, who is created by the souls of the killed soldiers is great, but in my opinion doesen't macht the realism of the movie.

I thought Godzilla vs Spacegodzilla was the worst movie of the heisei era, however I still think it was a pretty good movie. Spacegodzilla's powers are all based off energy so it didn't really bother me that there wasn't much hand to hand fighting as that's never been a strong point of any godzilla movie. The only movie to do that well in my opinion was Godzilla Raids Again, once beams, lasers and energy attacks came into play that went out the window.

I think the director was going for a showa feel hence why baby Godzilla looked like minilla, and space godzilla was a throwback to the old alien monsters.

Godzilla was created from a nuke. He also feeds on energy, the intial blast will hurt him, but when he absorbs all the energy around him it won't even matter.

and @AMARTIN35... WHAT? Godzilla was killed by a Oxygen Destroyer created by Dr.  Serizawa, not a nuke.
