It's probably accurate, I think a lot of kids like those Vampire movies and TV shows. Not sure but I think it is marketed to young teenage girls just like Twilight and there are a few television shows about vampires aimed at the young adult demographic too (I actually thought this was a TV show).
It's not my cup of tea, but then again I get looks and giggles from people when they hear I like Star Trek so, to each their own I suppose.
Lets do this after the films release and besides it has a rating of 7.3 on IMDB were people concentrate on the rating the most.
and Plus lets not be Dou**bags and rate the film down, just saying.
not that youre and any other g fan is responsible for it, just worried that some G fans might go do that.
(Update):By the films release I meant Godzilla not VA.
Mechagodzilla vs. Dragonzord ;)
Linkman,
You're free to examine it how you want, but I can claim you're equally guilty, if not more so, of "cherry picking." Here's some to further support my claim:
You're right that some (but not all) trailers aired condensed versions of what was later shown on youtube, but that didn't help matters. Trandformers: Age of Extinction had no extended trailer and still beat out Captain America 2 by 2-3 million views at the 6 day mark.
Need for Speed had an extended trailer as well as a 30 second Super Bowl spot, but was still beaten out by Maleficant (which was a trailer released over the weekend) and A Million Ways to Die in the West, which was a recently released red band trailer.
Most promoted channels had The Amazing Spider-Man 2 trailers in the thousands, marking it to around $3 million at the 5-6 day mark.
You already mentioned Noah, but in the tradition of "cherry picking" as you call it, you omitted it to support your argument. (Despite the fact it's a high profile film by an acclaimed director and A-list cast.)
I'm not saying a Super Bowl spot would not have raised awareness to Godzilla, but I am saying there's not much evidence to support it. Especially when a 30 second Transformers spot out paces the advertised extended trailers.
But lets not forget the Super Bowl ads that do not showcase films. The "Villian Jaguar" spot, featuring Mark Strong, Tom Hiddleston and Ben Kingsley, had 8 million views Sunday night before midnight. Transformers: Age of Extinction, had not yet broke 1 million views before midnight Sunday night. (And that's the movie spot that's done the best.) You can check the Hollywood Reporter to back me up as well.
The fact is these longer, non-film ads are more bankable and more popular. Sports shows, before and after the Super Bowl, would talk about Super Bowl ads and typically condemn the movie spots. One in particular said, and I quote, "It's not a super bowl spot. It's a movie trailer." And dismissed them from being included as a favorite.
It still could've been done yes. And you're right it still could have helped the film, but that's still admitting it as a possibility and not a fact. Which it is not.
As for Paramount and Star Trek. It does not outright say they lost money from the Super Bowl spot, but to make such a claim suggests analysts and other executives didn't think it was worth the money either. Notice Paramount didn't have an ad in the Super Bowl this year.
Meanwhile, winning the MTV competition would not have hurt Godzilla, but recongnition and free help only matters if its productive. The MTV poll was not. It had no bearing on helping Vampire Academy and likely made less of an impact than other superfluous internet polls such as Crave Online's trailer polls from last December. The Lego Movie had almost no presense in that poll and tore Vampire Academy to shreds at the boxoffice.
Shit I just did a discussion about Vampire Acedemy's rating but didnt see this one, sorry about that lol
Its possible that the roar changed due to the advances in technology my favorite roar is the burning godzilla and the 84 roars respectively.
i think the GMK Suit was the worst because of the posture of it but i also think it was the most sinister that bad boy was mean just like Godzilla 98.
I think your reasoning is a bit flawed here and since this is basically coming across as your way of saying "see I was right?" I'm goina tear into it.
With the Vampire Academy thing what more people were fighting for was merely a to make a statement. People wanted Godzilla to win. That's what it came down to.
As for the Super Bowl, you're cherry picking examples here. Let's look at the broader trends.
During the Super Bowl not all the trailers were full length. Several studios did something VERY smart and premiered a 30 second spot for a full trailer that could be visited at a website that was included in the commercial, so they paid less in advertising AND were able to give people a new look at the film. What has this resulted in? Captain America's trailer is now up to over 12 million views on youtube on one video. the Spiderman 2 trailer is a little harder to analyze since Sony doesn' seem to have an official video... the Super Bowl spot itself has 200,000 views, while the longer trailer itself has several postings, including quite a few with over 200,000 respectively. Transformers is up to over 2 million views on one video. Noah isn't doing so hot but let's face it not many people are paying attention to that film to begin with plus it's trailer was during the first commercial break before the coin flip even happened when not many people were paying attention. Same for the muppets. Now while you are right in saying that the Godzilla trailer got more views in three days than most of these did, since then the official youtube view count is only up to 13 million views, which means only a 3-5 million view increase in the two months since it's release.
Now I'm not trying to put down Godzilla don't take this as me saying that. However, you can't honestly say that a Superbowl spot, especially one showcasing Godzilla himself and/or a Muto, wouldn't have lead to a significant amount of increased attention.
Now, part of everything said above can partially be chocked up to when the footage aired obviously. The trailers that didn't do as well were, in general, aired in the second half of a football game that, as we all know, sucked. You can't honestly say though that having a Superbowl trailer wouldn't have helped the film, nor can you say that having one would have hurt it because we don't know. However, considering how many people are already excited for this film, it probably would have drawn more views, not to mention it woud have still gotten the movie out to about a 100 million more people had it been aired in the first half of the game.
Point is, it still could have been done and it still could have helped the film. Just because Star Trek regretted doing it doesn't constitute evidence that a Super Bowl trailer is a waste of money, especially since JJ Abrams has said recently that his biggest regret about the film wasn't making it apparent that the villain was Kahn, which promoting could have actually increased ticket sales simply for the name recognition.
As for Vampire Academy, winning a competition couldn't have hurt Godzilla, especially since how hard we fought for it got it's name out there more, so who cares if VA only has made a million or two bucks... any sales help and any increase in name recognition helps, especially when it's free.
Well, that is not the only source. According to a fellow member named Joshua Hopkins, another source is saying the same thing. Here is the link to the thread:
This seems too well thought out for a message board post... I agree with all the above, well said.
i agree with you 100%, there was no need for everyone to get angry over 'no godzilla superbowl teaser', really i don't care if there isn't a trailer next week or even this month, all i want is a new poster or something new like updating the MUTO website.
I have my doubts about this theory, but it is an interesting one to contemplate.
The likelihood of this Serizawa bearing any actual relation to the one from the original Gojira is astronomically low. The casting and the name was more likely to have been a simple nod of respect to the original to include at least one original character. No doubt Legendary had to pay out the ass to Toho to get the right to use that character's name in usch a fashion, or at least let them know ahead of time that they had it planned out.
Still, I doubt very much that this Serizawa will hold relations to the 1954 character.
You know...
If I'm being perfectly honest, I don't ever recall anyone ever giving half a rat's ass about what happened before the trailer's release once the trailer came out. Once the first trailer came online, everyone instantly focused 100% of their attention on the trailer and completely ignored everything which came before.
I have no reason to believe the same won't happen here. People are complaining and arguing back and forth about the trailer's release date, who's got the best sources, the legitimacy of leaked images, and more. Yet once the trailer hits the web/theaters, everyone's going to forget all of this and start doing exactly what they did last time.
They'll focus 100% of their attention on the trailer.
So is this thread truly relevant anymore, let alone the very topic of whether or not the trailer dates are legitimate? Once it hits the web it's not going to matter anymore anyway because we'll all be able to watch it and enjoy it and nobody's going to care about any of this bickering once it's here.
Honestly...
(double posted for some reason)
I'm fairly certain Hawaii is being portrayed as hawaii... I'm fairly certain they filmed extras that actually live there in Hawaii... with ya know... the modern buildings and all the caucasian extras.
GMan2887
I can understand that logic, like trying to explain that the Fantastic Four movie isn't set in the same universe as The Avengers, or that the new Spiderman movie wasn't a prequel to Sam Raimi's spiderman, or trying to explain to my uncle that the new star wars movies were prequels and not sequels (something he still doesn't understand).
No, Hannibal is from another forum. He also emotes more than Kyero.
Ambiguous might be too big of a word for some people here to understand, Akagi. But you're dead on about everything so I hope your voice is heard.
Five bucks says Hannibal is Kyero-- but then again, hes not posting giant walls of text so maybe not.
Both Godzilla 2000 and Final Wars were originally planned to be continuations of the Heisei series but the concepts were both scrapped.
Kitamura said he liked the idea except that the Heisei Godzilla series represented everything he hated about Godzilla (over emphasis on politics, little action or as he stated "I don't want to watch two men sitting around smoking a cigarettes discussing how to kill Godzilla"-- thus why he avoided the concept all together.
If we are basing Final Wars on its opening scene, then technically every Godzilla movie happened and was some how linked into the continuity-- which isn't the case.
There were a lot of odd ideas were thrown back and forth for Godzilla 2000, including Godzilla being Jr and fighting Showa monsters like Anguirus-- these were scrapped as well.
But Godzilla 2000 was made purposely ambiguous, as the producers thought if they had low emphasis on Godzilla's origins it'd be more marketable, and for that reason alone I believe all the fan speculation of Godzilla 2000's origins sprung forth. There are even non Godzilla fans who thought Godzilla 2000 is a sequel to Godzilla 98.
On the same page, Final Wars is also very ambiguous as well for the same marketing reasons.
^Hannibal,
I guarantee everything you said has gone right over their heads. Another member named Kyero has tried the same thing time and time again. Save your energy. You'll live longer. And prosper.
^Toho simply wanted to go in a different direction. The Heisei storyline was over and there wasn't much more that could've been done with it. No point in dragging it out further, especially since the Millennium series proved to be more fruitful for overseas markets.
You mean aside from the fact that there's no hard evidence besides a bunch of people with super-sekret sources, shoddy photoshops, and an extensive groupthink mentality that SURELY THERE MUST BE A TRAILER NEXT WEEK?
imagine how much it would cost
Okay HannibalBarca, what proof do you have that nothing will happen. I also see that this is your first post on the Godzilla forums, so I am wondering how reliable you are.
Haha, you guys are gonna be so disappointed when nothing happens next week.
i think the 1954 scens will include the bikini atoll hydrogen bomb which leads to the Lucky Dragon incident, i also belive that this new serizawa has no link to the original, it maybe just a homage/reference to the original, the 1954 scnes maybe like serizaw's childhood flashbacks or it is some of godzilla's or the MUTOs origins.
hey... yeah i didnt think of that either 96 days and counting down still my friend
maybe a fictional hawaii tribe/clan belive in a god of destruction called gojira/godzilla, i'd prefer that than to odo island
i agree with godzillafan1995 on his comment but lets not forget that radiation is still a very strong threat to the world even today just imagine all nuclear missles firing at the same time hitting every island, town, and country at the same time the world ends and godzilla rises lol
yeah but lets not forget here godzillafan1995 that this godzilla in this film is suppose to be the original thats what got me thinking that they could do that with hawaii
i feel like i am seeing the original,1984/85, and probably a little of the 1991
this isn't a remake of the original, it is a completly different godzilla story i'm pretty sure hawaii will most likely still be hawaii. the dr serizawa may only be a reference/homage to the original serizawa, it will not be a remake, a reboot is different and is a better option.
Well...
I dont really read Godzilla comics, but i hav read a few, including the first issue of Rulers of earth. And out of those i have read, its probably the one that seems least interesting
(In case anyone cares about which i have read, its the first issue of half-century war, and a few issues of Kingdom of Monsters, and i have the paperback of Legends)
yeah you make a good point there godzilla3580
Actually, it may be possible that it is going to be an island like Odo island. That would be pretty cool, but I doubt it. They can't make this movie exactly like the original, but something like what happened on Odo island might happen in this movie.
