Lets be subjective about this.
Everyone likes something stupid. The average public view of Godzilla or monsters in general is that its silly kids stuff-- the average person is a slimey adult who has tossed aside their childhood as if it were a horrible stage in their lives they'd like to forget.
The average person might make fun of you for liking Godzilla but the average person also will geek out about stupid stuff like sporting events, celeb marriages, or some band they love. A perfect example of how everyone is a geeky nerd about something is this-- go to a sporting event, you're going to see some goofball half naked and painted up there, how is that any cooler than liking giant monsters?
Am I embarrassed for liking Godzilla-- hell no. The moment I shed that fear of what society thinks of about the silly shit I like, the happier I got. Sure people make fun of me for it, but I honestly don't give two shits what people think about me. Its not like I can't pick apart every dumb thing everyone else likes-- I just choose to be the better person and not practice that same sick game with them.
Lord knows we live in a weird era in which being a nerd is considered socially acceptable, when i was in school, liking anything but sports or god was pretty much grounds for getting picked on.
Now its dumb popular to like nerdy stuff like comic books and video games.
He looks pretty beast. He seems to only be flinching a bit.... and if anyone complains about that it's better then him dying from it.
Honestly I KNEW this movie was gonna be an obviously common sense pg 13, but yes you all had listed out the great reasons above already why this movie shouldnt be rated r.
And I also agree; the rated r crap can finally be "cased closed".
I remember reading an article saying there will be only 2 other monsters in the movie besides Godzilla.
The 2 MUTOs we will be seeing in the film will be working together to fight Godzilla, if alone though, they're weak.
It's good that Godzilla (2014) is being rated PG-13, for several of the reasons listed above. The wider audience will bring in so many more people, generate hundreds, if not thousands of more fans and bring the world to its knees with the message behind what Godzilla is.
Plus, we need this movie to be successful! We need more Godzilla movies, and if Legendary (and hopefully Gareth Edwards) are at the forefront of that with Toho being them, we will experience the greatest series of movies to ever grace cinema with their atomic radiation!
Why did I have a link here? That was weird.
Oops, my apologies! Hard to tell that it was a joke :3
Oh man...... my body was NOT ready for all of this! Luckily, I am a totally-not-an-immortal-kaiju-in-human-disguise person who deals with this like any other meatsack-- I mean human!
I have no shame in my fandom and I don't care what people say to be honest. I plan on getting some G tats.
Good, that means this movie has even more potential to be successful
Talk about emotional, this is freaking heart-renching! :'(
Worth the ten year wait. So worth it
So no giant lizard sex? How disappointing. I really can't think of a reason to have an R-rated Godzilla movies. It would only limit the audience and the potential box office and the series has never been pre-disposed to lots of gore or bad language (though I suspect that most of Godzilla's dialoge would be curse words if it were translated).
How much for you to repaint mine? Seriously, this is awesome, I want to learn how to do this. Could you direct me to some online resources about the techniques you used for this? You may just have inspired me to bring out all the details in my otherwise drab, monochrome Godzilla.
@SPACEGODZILLA2,
When I saw that I burst out laughing. Thanks for that. ;)
Biollante is my number one. I will admit, the film has its flaws:
1) Some of the Western actors are suspect
2) The score isn't terrible, though confusing and disjointed at times
3) The human drama lags in areas.
However, it's strong in a lot of catergories and that's way I find myself reaching for it on the shelf so often.
1) Some of the best FX in the whole series.
2) Best G design in my opinion and the animatronic used in conjunction with the suit gave G more personality than ever.
3) Unique and beautiful monster design in Biollante herself.
4) Addressing gene theropy and cloning long before Hollywood made it a staple of monster movies with Jurassic Park, etc.
I went ahead and got myself a half-sleeve tattoo of Big G on my right arm. No hiding my fandom nor should there be. Be true to yourself and do what you love. Only way to live.
vs. Biollante. So underrated in my opinion.
@spacegodzilla2:
you have to warn folk of what they are getting into. I darn near choked on my drink when the video started! Lol
New godzilla tv spot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KLZzxZh_hY
mabey I'm beating a dead horse here.. but I still think that there are 2 G's one 350 tall.. the other waaay taller and bigger... noting the spinal plates in the above pic. I'm sure I'll get flack for this comment. but hey.. it still would be cool.
Am I the only one who thinks the third one wasn't suppost to come out till tommorrow? The godzilla channel on youtube still doesn't have the third one on there.
probably more of a rival
It's taking every ounce of energy in me to not watch these! From what I'm reading though this sounds so bad ass!
Know it's the run time of the movie is next. Hopefully it won't Disappoint.
Your not alone Akagi, I quite like the MUTO monsters too.
The design looks alien and creepy.
I would do it if I had my editing program.
In the original trailer - there were "claws" in the last scene that matched neither Godzilla or flying Muto. They would match a mean caterpillar though.
I'm not saying I'm right. Just throwing the possibility out there.
@cspyro - good answers. Not sure I agree with them. But I definitely understand the overstating of the monsters size on the posters. HOWEVER - the monster whose spines break the water at the atoll - in scale to the island itself - lends itself to the scale of the original "monster behind transamerica building poster" more then anything else.
Conversely - the scenes in Hawaaii - Honolulu or where ever, he's again small statured. The latest poster of him behind a building with the soldiers on it - lend to a smaller size. But in the trailer - they shoot flares at something enormous.
With everything thats unbelieveably cool about thios marketing campaign - the seemingly shifting size scale continues to catch my, probably over critical, eye.
You know, I keep hoping to see his foot come crashing down on something, that is all I'm waiting to see in these trailers and they keep denying me.
I feel like i'm the only one that loves Muto.
If there were going to be more monsters in this film, we'd already have seen toys.
No they would not embargo the a super secret squirrel third enemy monster when they could be making money off selling it.
Monsters that will appear in the film are the ones we've seen toys of.
If I'm wrong, I'll be the first to admit it.
But the movie can't be dark without vast amounts of carnage, cursing, and potential nudity!:Every1 who wanted an R-rated movie.
I didn't need this confirmation, I would have been willing to bet anyone 500 bucks on the spot the film was going to be PG13.
Regardless, the brass that seemed to think the movie was going to be rated R... I'm curious to hear their commentary on this...
I wish the centipede beast was in the film. It looked much more interesting than the mutos, in this poster's humble opinion.
