With less than a month before Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle opens in Japanese theaters, Toho has finally released the first trailer for the Planet of the Monsters sequel.
The trailer features a pretty obvious nod to the Shobijin (Mothra twins), new, improved flight mech and a blossoming relationship between Haruo and his old friend. Godzilla also seems to showcase some new abilities while sporting an embered glow, ala, Godzilla vs. Destoroyah (1995) and Shin Godzilla (2016).Take a look:
Like the first film, the theme song titled "The Sky Falls" is by XAI.
The lack of theatrical promotion seems to indicate that City on the Edge of Battle will also see a smaller theatrical release and that Toho intends to put most of its focus on the pending Netflix release.
Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle stars the voice talents of Mamoru Miyano (Mobile Suit Gundam 00, Ultraman Zero: The Movie), Takahiro Sakurai (Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans), Kana Hanazawa (.hack//Quantum), Yuki Kaji (Attack on Titan), Tomokazu Sugita (Attack on Titan), Junichi Suwabe (Space Dandy), Kenta Miyake (Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn), Kenyu Horiuchi (Bleach, One Piece), Kazuhiro Yamaji (Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children), Kazuya Nakai (Dragon Ball Super) and Ari Ozawa (Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun). The film is directed by Kobun Shizuno (Detective Conan: The Darkest Nightmare) & Hiroyuki Seshita (Knights of Sidonia) from a screenplay by Gen Urobuchi (Kamen Rider Gaim).
The film will hit Japanese theaters May 18th, 2018.
The first film in the Godzilla anime trilogy, Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters is currently streaming on Netflix.
