MemberMothra LarvaeJul-17-2015 5:55 AMA new Creature, Mechagodzilla or if Gidorah is going to be an alien in origin, Gigan!

MemberBaragonJul-17-2015 6:16 AMThe most common suggestions I see are Mechagodzilla or Destoroyah

The King of the Monsters
MemberMothra LarvaeJul-17-2015 12:00 PMI think that Legendary could create a new monster for the final installment of the trilogy, but if they choose to have Godzilla's final opponent be another Toho kaiju, I think (like most other fans) that Mechagodzilla or Destoroyah would work.

Something Real
MemberGodzillaJul-17-2015 12:22 PMRAZG - I am of the opinion that Legendary will utilize a preexisting monster from the Toho pantheon as the final nemisis in their third Godzilla film. It is possible that Biollante, Gigan or Orga might be poised to make an appearance! If that were the case, I would be extremely delighted! :)

AdminGodzillaJul-17-2015 1:03 PMLargely due to the box office reciepts I doubt we'll ever see Biollante or Orga in a future Legendary or Toho movie. Hardcore fans tend to enjoy them, but they don't really have the marquee value that Legendary is likely looking for to sell the movies.

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-17-2015 2:17 PMSeriously, please no Destroyah. Ugh. What a waste of a film that would be.

Something Real
MemberGodzillaJul-17-2015 2:22 PMGMAN2887 - Oh, I know. Just a little wishful thinking. However, in the process of completely and utterly dashing and dancing upon my fragile, glass-like, poorly-conceived dreams [;)], you have raised a very good point. Indeed, which monsters would have the selling value Toho and Legendary require to sell tickets? If we can answer that question, we very well might be able to zero-in on a likely candidate for Godzilla's final foe! Definately something to consider! :)

Something Real
MemberGodzillaJul-17-2015 2:24 PMWOLFGUY - We probably do not have much to fear with regards to Destoroyah showing up as the Oxygen Destroyer is not present in Legendary's continuity - for the time being, at any rate. All things being equal, however, I agree with your sentiment. :)

MemberBaragonJul-17-2015 3:42 PMWow! I'm surprised everyone thinks there may be a more powerful monster for Godzilla 3. What do we have to prove that king Ghidorah will die in Godzilla 2? Who are we to say that king Ghidorah won't live? Technically speaking in realistic terms, who is more powerful than king Ghidorah? In Tohos series, mechagodzilla and Destroyah. Legendary? If they are going with that realistic approach, I highly doubt mechagodzilla or Destroyah will appear. Gareth did say that he wanted to make a film in which what if this actually happened? He also said that he wanted to create a destroy all monsters like film. Meaning, king Ghidorah would have to survive.

MemberBaragonJul-17-2015 5:52 PMBen I don't think Gareth is going with the Destroy all Monsters concept in terms of the kaju roster as much as the concept of humans living beside and dealing with multiple giant monsters that are near indestructible. Any bad monster could fit Ghidorah's role in Destroy All Monsters at this point, he was used because at the time he was the only available space monster.
With Legendary using Ghidorah I don't think we can count any monster out in terms of being axed for being unrealistic. While I lean more towards the idea of them not using the mechs simply because of how totally out of the box that is, any other monster is pretty much up for grabs, of course the big names come first as since the four biggest are going in the next movie, the next most notable monsters would definitely be MechaG being in the same class as the ones to appear in the upcoming Godzilla 2, then following him the monsters that come to mind first are Anguirus, Destoroyah, and maybe Gigan.

MemberBaragonJul-17-2015 6:06 PMGareth said that if his movie was successful, he would like to make a destroy all monsters like film. He said that on Facebook. Okay, so, any monster could take his role? Alright, Hedorah is the one. No, wait, Megalon. Gigan a cyborg/alien mix is going to fit realistically? The only rooster of monsters that have a realistic and realism approach are Rodan, Mothra, kumonga, kamakiras, Gorosaurus, ebirah, and maybe Megalon. Mechagodzilla, not so much. Destroyah, well, he was a precambrian animal so maybe.
Again, we don't know what direction they are going with Godzilla 2 just yet. I personally think Ghidorah will survive. We do know that the big 4 will be in Godzilla 2 but, for all we know, Godzilla could just fight Rodan and Mothra throughout the movie until Ghidorah magically appears.

MemberBaragonJul-17-2015 6:17 PMWhen he says destroy all monsters movie I interpretted that as him wanting to show humans dealing with living and containing multiple monsters. If you really think about it Ghidorah himself was a very small part of the actual story in DAM. He was just brought in at the end to be the alien's guard. Had other space monsters existed at the time there's no telling how different that final fight may have played out.
If you can fit a giant Moth goddess and a 3 headed space monster into your realistic approach you can pretty much fit anything. There's also a whole movie between this supposed 3rd movie to establish things and start a buildup for something bigger, it's established in the first movie that nukes aren't the correct way to go with confronting these monsters, so a new bioweapon could easily be introduced to try to stop all the new monsters that are approaching leading the way to Destoroyah, Biollante, Orga possibly. The monsters don't have to share the same origins they had in toho, just reminiscent enough to make the connection.

MemberBaragonJul-17-2015 6:25 PMHmmmm..since you put it that way, I guess you're right. Guess we'll have to wait and see though right?

The King of the Monsters
MemberMothra LarvaeJul-17-2015 8:52 PMIt's really unfair to just shoot down every suggestion for a monster by saying it's "too unrealistic." Hello, EVERY monster is unrealistic. You could apply that logic to every single monster in the series. If Legendary thought that way, they never would have even bought the rights to Godzilla. Giant monsters will never be realistic, ever. However, the films featuring them can be serious and grounded, and that's the key. Even monsters like Mechagodzilla and Destoroyah can be fit into Legendary's series. They'd obviously need to be changed slightly in order to fit the tone and logic of Legendary's series, but the same thing was done with Godzilla, and it worked. Legendary is confident that they can fit Rodan, Mothra, and King Ghidorah into their films, so we shouldn't count any monster out.
I believe Max Borenstein (or it might have been someone else from Legendary) once said that they could fit any monster into the series without compromising that monster's legacy. He referenced Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, which incorporated several iconic Batman villains, and despite changing them to fit the grounded tone of the films, it still kept them true to their legacy. I'm confident that Legendary will do the same for Mothra, Rodan and Ghidorah, and for any other Toho monsters they may choose to use in the future.

MemberTitanosaurusJul-18-2015 1:40 PMThis is something that I've thought about ever since the anouncment of Rodan, Mothra, and King Ghidorah in "Godzilla 2". On one hand I would like to see Mecha Godzilla be in the 3rd movie if only just because he Rodan, Mothra, and Ghidorah were in the previous Godzilla series so it would be fitting to have the four of them appear in the new series. But on the other hand I would also like to see some new monsters be created for the legendary series so they can try and keep things new and interesting.
Godzilla... Truly a God incarnate.
