Is it just me, or did g14 and g2000 act very similar?

for one both movies were called godzilla, both had him but only had him in the movie for 9-10 mins

both had a new monster, and foucus on it a little more than the big guy, and both had an end fight.

post your replys below and tell me what you think!

The biggest similarity I recall is Godzilla's reaction to the military. He didn't seem to care too much about them in both films-- Although he was about to attack them in Godzilla 2000, but the aircraft came in. It seemed incidental in Godzilla '14 though.

After thinking about it, I do kind of see the 1999 and 2014 portrayals of Godzilla being very similar. Both of them seem to want to avoid conflict with the human military even though they could both easily withstand their attacks. They also fight off an enemy monster that is not inherently evil and only wants to proliferate its kind but still threatens the balance of Earth. Neither version is specifically protecting mankind, but both ultimately end up appearing heroic. The only major difference is that G2000 acts more malevolent to human civilization than G14, who seems to mostly ignore it.

"Love" is a strong word for Godzilla 2000. While I don't think it's as controversial as the 2014 film, it tends to be accepted with rather mixed opinion as well.

But that aside, you also have to consider the ratio of Godzilla's screen time with the movie's length itself. Godzilla's screen time may have been 9-10 minutes in Godzilla 2000 (I don't know for sure yet), but the movie was 107 minutes long. The American version of Godzilla 2000 is 99 minutes long. So going by your own estimates Godzilla is on screen anywhere between 8.9% to 9.6%-- Depending on which version you're watching

Godzilla's screentime in the 2014 film is around 8 minutes. The movie is 123 minutes long, putting his screentime around 6.4-6.5% of the film.

So I don't think it's how long Godzilla's screen time is, but rather how much he occupies the film's length. So far, from the research I've seen, 12% is the average amount. (At least in the Showa series.)

The movie title thing is wrong. The tittle for Godzilla 2000 was, well Godzilla 2000.

I'm not sure I agree with the spaceship and orga taking a bigger role than Godzilla, in comparison to how it seemed the MUTOS were.

HEISEIKING - What an interesting notion you've raised! Hmm, I'd say that I can definately see the similarities between the pair of films you've mentioned; Godzilla does evidence certain personality traits that cross over between both. That being said, I'd almost go so far as to say that Edwards' Godzilla is a much more indifferent being while Godzilla from G-2000 is openly a bit more antagonistic - eagerly looking for a way to shut Mankind down. Regardless, this was a very neat topic! Thank you so much for sharing this with us! :)

Also the fatalities were similar. Orga eating Godzilla and Bug G is all "Haha...no" then BOOM! Explosions and what not.

Similar to the MUTO getting it's head blown off

Wasn't the name of Godzilla 2000 in Japan Godzilla 2000: Millenium or something like that? Either way, I agree, there are quite a few similarities in the two movies, and I'm sure you could find similarities when comparing any two Godzilla movies!

That's one thing I love about the franchise: no matter what movie it is, there's always a sense of familiarity involved.

NerdyBandGeeks,
Yes, the full title was Godzilla 2000: Millennium in Japan. The Japanese version is 8 minutes longer with different music and color correction.
