MemberMothra LarvaeAug-04-2014 12:38 PMI had a thought, with all the recent kaiju movies announced, I think that this decade (the '10s) will be the decade of the kaiju movies-much like the noughties was the superhero decade, this decade will have a butt ton of new monster movies to enjoy. Not to mention that the older kaiju movies (Gamera, the old Godzillas, Harryhausen's work) will be in much higher demand and would be released in countries that didn't have them before like the UK (it's very hard to get godzilla DVDs in the UK)
This is just a thought I had, don't take it so seriously although I'm fine with critisicsm.

Agreed.
I was thinking about this earlier though-- With Pacific Rim and Godzilla recently released, and Legendary plowing the road with a major "giant creature" release for the next four years, it does feel reminiscent to a psuedo-golden age. Certainly not the same calibar and hype as the real Golden Age of daikaiju, but no doubt this is a revitalized era in the the genre. I'm curious how historians will look at the run of Pacific Rim, Godzilla, Skull Island, Pacific Rim 2 and Godzilla 2 in the future. I'll lump Jurassic World in there too since it has some similar ties with the genre. I wonder if Cloverfield will be credited as well.
