Hello, I finally watched Godzilla 2014 and I really liked it. Although...there were some aspects I was a little disappointed in. So this is just a little review I am going to share with you. *Warning: there are some spoilers in this review so if you haven't watched it yet, stop reading now*. Well, the main problem I had with this movie is; it focused too much on the enemy MUTOs. It didn't feel like a Godzilla film in some areas. Godzilla just didn't feel like the main character and I feel like there wasn't enough of him in it. Another thing I was a bit disappointed with is; (again, heavy spoiler here) Bryan Cranston's early death. The trailer made him out to be like the main character and he was only in it for like the first 25 minutes. There just wasn't enough character development in my opinion. But anyway, apart from the flaws this movie was amazing! The battle scenes were just absolutely outstanding! The CGI was very very well done! The acting performance from all the actors in this film, especially Bryan Cranston (even though he wasn't in it for long) was great! I really think Aaron Taylor Johnson executed his role as Ford perfectly. I hear some people complain about how he didn't suit the role and how he misinterperated the character but I thought he was great. Anyway, this movie a amazing and I will definitely watch it again at the cinema! I give it a solid 8/10. :D

DEADITE KAIJU - I'm so very pleased you enjoyed the film! I knew it was a safe bet you'd have a blast! Your review is compelling to read, and I agree a great deal with what you've said. An 8 out of 10 is a sterling review! Thank you for sharing this with us! :)

I think the reason why it was more focused on the MUTO than Godzilla is because the MUTO's are new monsters, while Godzilla is known for more than 60 years and most people know his origin. If there is a sequel and if the MUTO's appear in the sequel, Godzilla will be the main focus because on this film they already say their history and/or origin. :)

I saw it last night and thought it was very good. I especially liked all the subtle references to other monster movies throughout the film. The only real problem I had (minor spoiler warning) was that Godzilla wasn't featured enough; he gets about 30 minutes of screen time in a movie that's just over 2 hours long.

@King Godzilla24.7 - Yeah I only saw 1 easter egg which was the King Ghidorah easter egg. Apparently there was a Mothra easter egg but I didn't see. I might watch it again.

I really enjoyed the intro sequence of it. Its like they used the idea of 98 but remastered it with godzilla cameos.  Also the fact that dr serizawa and his assistant were so focused on godzilla and his origins it felt like he was an incarnation of both the old serizawa and yamane.

Agree with your main points.  I understand why they wanted to "pass on" the main storyline to the younger Brody--sort of in line with the new blood of the film itself, but...c'mon, Cranston's acting lent a whole level of humanity and depth that pretty much disappeared when he did.  I was a bit surprised, and admittedly disappointed when he died.

Agree, we could have seen more of G...think they wanted to build up his appearance. After the GG Bridge scene, I'd say he had his fair share of screen time though.

Have to wonder about a sequel...clearly Edwards is more cautious than to go silly and start having goofy alien monsters or Godzilla sliding on his tail...but the next "thing" can't just be some destructive animal either, cuz we just did that.

My one other small beef with the film would be a continuation of the whole Starship Troopers paradigm--fighting giant, armored beasts primarily with small arms.  Makes sense if you're talking about dwarves fighting dragons, but not the miltary that owns 30,000 lb guided bombs fighting monsters with mostly pistols and rifles. Yeah, there were some M1A2s in there, but just a smattering. Military certainly didn't look incompetent, but...trust me, we wouldn't even be wasting our time firing M4s at something that big.  It would be loads and loads of penetrator bombs, guided MLRS, Tomahawk missiles, etc--all things we can fire right in the middle of cities BTW.  And we'd do it in the hundreds, believe me...that was totally unrealistic.

My point is, since these creatures are pretty much impossible to kill (Godzilla at least), you could portray the actions I just said (it would look incredible BTW), and it would just make them appear that much more omnipotent and fearsome...next time Gareth, pleeeeeeease.

@Something Real - When Aaron Taylor is pouring the the gasoline all over the floor to destroy the MUTO's eggs. You see a little dragon statue on the ground which I think is a Ghidorah reference. I didn't think much of it when I first saw it and I wasn't really paying full attention so I vaguely remember it but someone mentioned the King Ghidorah statue on the ground and I was like "ooooh is that what that dragon thing was". So yeah, it was an easy thing to miss. I didn't even know it was meant to be King Ghidorah. I just thought it was a regular dragon. I gotta watch it again.
