I'm sorry to say so but there has to be 2. If you saw the soundtrack and the titles of all the songs, one of them was titled "two against one". Considerind theres the flying MUTO, and we've seen the 6 legged MUTO in some videos, I'm guessing there's most likely 2.

In the extended trailer. it says on the monitor muto 1 and muto 2.

That scene is very early on, before it shows up in Hawaii.  It's why they're still hoping it can be passed off as just an earthquake.  (That line confused me in the old trailers, but makes sense in context).  I don't doubt that they only think there's one at that point, but there will be a second one that emerges and trashes Vegas, one of the trailers showed it in the background.

I do know that Something Real tends to be pretty annoying.

There are two. One from Janjira and one from Nevada Desert I'm assuming since it tears up Vegas and is also massively larger than the winged MUTO when you look at that full pan view of the Vegas strip and you see how massive it is in the backround. The winged muto would never look that big. Sorry, don't mean to be harsh, but there are 2 MUTO's. Even the soundtrack says so. It's not your fault, though. They have been keeping the big MUTO a secret from advertisements up until now.

I just wish they would show more of the 8-Legged Muto, since they only show the Winged Muto.

i dont know. to me it sounds like it formed a cocoon and became airborn. and two vs one could be the military and godzilla vs the muto. just my two cents

Ok, so what is Godilla classified as?  If these are M.U.T.O's, then what is Godzilla's acronym, and don't tell me the military didn't come up with an acronym for him.  Another thing to all of you dissing this theory, explain the cocoon.  And also, what if MUTO 2 is Godzilla?  We can't exactly tell what is on that screen behind Strathairn in that scene.  Also, just because the toys have an 8-legged MUTO and a flying one does not rule out the possibility of it evolving during the film.

let them fight! I'm pretty sure the military will not attack the muto since they already tried and the military nearly got wiped out! Let nature fight nature! I'm pretty sure the Vegas scene is in the beginning, hince the hatching of the egg of the eight legged muto. While the one in hawwie is the flying one which flys away after a battle to California and godzilla probably follows. While eight legged muto is destroying every thing in its path to sanfransisco.

I'm just going to guess that the military was confused about the Mutos, and that they believed it was one creature until both Mutos show up at the same time to fight Goji or them.

I think Kaijugroupie84 makes an interesting point. Depsite all that's been shown and told, we don't know the actual course of events in the movie. I mean, "massive unidentified terrestrial organism" could easily apply to Godzilla (he's massive, they have no idea what he is, and he's terrestrial). Derpy Battra also makes a good point. Nothing can be certain until the actual movie comes out.

People should know their are two of them let me tell you some more. Know the eight legged muto came from an egg" which i stated before. has awaken and started destroying las vegas. he probably escaped the muto research facility, and caused vegas to black out DURING THE DAY, NOT NIGHT, DAY! Which we can see his pure size on the strip of vegas in that trailer. know, godzilla is probaby going to come out of the ocean like always. heading towards Hawwie. one muto is already their creating destruction. godzilla shows up, and confrons the unmature muto creature, as heard in the wondercon clip this muto spreds its wings and kinda roars at godzilla. they fight, realizing that the muto is not strong enough, it flys away to california to regain strength which then godzilla follows. Compare both creatures(Mutos) its right in front of our faces that their are two! not one, but two! The one in vegas dwarfs the one in hawwie, and it dosent make sense that it would start off big, and shrink. Or that  it would go through vegas, and all of california and the ocean to confront godzilla on hawwie, and turn back to SanFran. it dosent make sense. Making the theory of one muto is wrong. The only mistery i have is where did the other muto come from? but i do know their is going to be a run in of possibly 3 monsters (godzilla,muto1,muto2) at one point or godzilla kills the flying one 1st and the big 8 legged muto for last.

i got it! the other muto came from the ground, it had too. since we had three scenes occuring underground. The forest that was destroyed that led to the ocean,but that couldeve been godzilla too. any way the dead remains of a creature that the scientest are studying/seeing, and when they discover that hole that leads to the outside which is probably linked to the carcuss underground. Well i had my share of post for tonight. time to shut my eyes,and go too sleep. i hope i dident really spoil any thing for anybody i dont want to do that, but its my theory why their are two, and not one. YOU STAY CLAASY SAN DEIAGO, IM RON BURGENDY.

Opening of the film, The first Muto awakens and causes the collapse of the Plant and goes dormant. It awakens and wreaks havoc heading towards Hawaii. Another awakens in Nevada also heading towards the Pacific. Serizawa comes in to explain how they awakened a titan... Godzilla.  And he suggests awakening it again to hunt the Mutos. The lesser of evils. He's the "alpha predator." I'd be more open to a third Muto than I would be just one.

Those aren't SPOILERS. Just my guessing based on all we've seen. But very plausible.

@Wolfguy - With all due respect, I do not see anything Something Real has done or said that should be considered 'Annoying', from the fact that she, like everyone else here is entitled the right to express their thoughts and comments about Godzilla 2014, which is the purpose of having a forum like this. 

Just because someone says something that does not meet your liking, does not mean you can use labels on people when you yourself do not expect to be labeled by others for the things you say here. Nobody calls you crazy or crap for the things you say, likewise, you should accord the same respect for others.

You have your opinions, others have their own. To start calling someone annoying for their comments is uncalled for and is considered a personal attack, which has no place in a forum like this. Thank you. 

there actually are two MUTO"S,  I saw the picture someone posted of the muto tracking screens blown up in size, and you can clearly see that one is the flying one , and the other is a MUCH MUCH larger , non winged one.  I think it's cool they're keeping the second one hidden from the ads.  But yeah, no ifs, ands, or buts about it, there are DEFINATELY two MUTO's
