Will the Mutos become part of Toho's roster of monsters?

Hello everyone. I have not read/heard anything about this. I was just wondering since Toho added Zilla to their monsters if the same would happen to the Mutos. Anyone have any insight on this topic?

Long time visitor, first time poster here. If this has been covered before, my apologies. Still figuring things out here.

Technically, if it's in a Godzilla movie, it's already part of Toho's line-up.

I'd love to see a traditional Godzilla movie in the future where they use him though, not unlike GINO in Final Wars.

Otherwise, I'd probably look forward to seeing Muto in future comic series.

Yeah, since Zilla was added, they will be added no matter what and that includes Godzilla (2014).

A Muto would be interesting to see. It'd have to be done entirely with puppet work though, or they'd have to dramatically alter its physiology.

^They'd probably do a mixture of puppetry and CG. Sort of like Kamacuras from Final Wars.

I have wondered if they were even designed with that in mind, the hind legs of the Mutos even look human.  I think you could make a 4 legged stilt walking costume which closely resembles the Mutos.

While they could make a Muto look fantastic with a stilt costume, they tend to be insanely tall. They'd need a seven and a half foot tall Godzilla suit to match....which would be pretty awesome, actually.

^The GMK suit was over 7ft tall.

You'd probably put a small actor or child actor in there if you wanted it up against Godzilla.  But we haven't seen a good comparison of 8 legged Muto's size next to Big G yet.

If nothing else it should make a good Halloween costume.

^Then you clearly haven't done your research:

http://godzilla.wikia.com/wiki/SokogekiGoji

You can find multiple sources detailing the GMK suit was over 7 ft tall. It is constantly cited as the biggest Godzilla suit of the Toho films and the 7 ft measurment was announced in 2001 during the production of the film. The suit included platform "stilts" in the feet to add to Godzilla's height.

The picture you posted is the suit next to director Shusuke Kaneko. There is no actor in it in that picture and it's hanging slumped over on its hangar.

I'm curious, if Toho was to go back to making Godzilla films, would they model a suit after the Legendary Godzilla design, and would they shoot for a similar realistic approach?

^Depends if the new Godzilla is both liked and considered a success I would imagine. Lets say Toho started prodction of a more traditional Godzilla next year:

If the Legendary Godzilla is a success, they would probably use that design as a template for a new design. Just make some tweaks to it.

If it not, it will be like Godzilla 2000 after GINO. The Godzilla 2000 design was about as far away from GINO as you can get... although it did model itself a little more after the recent Gamera suits. The Gamera trilogy was fairly successful and Toho most likely took note.

First of all lets stop calling him GINO. Lets call him by his official,TOHO given name, Zilla. No on to the point. I do think that the Mutos will be real monsters but probably won't come back for a while since Toho might wantt o bring their original monsters back first. Also what do you guys think the Mutos names will be? I have no idea and I would like a different name for each monster. Mabye one can be Muto but the other should be called something else. Unless it's the same monster before and after a horrible mutation, But this is highly unlikely.

Good point GMAN2887.

I think the appearance and size of Godzilla is also related to the storyline. The Heisei era had a certain consistency in terms of Godzilla's look and size. Yeah, they made changes to him, but they were relatively minor since those films existed in the same universe. In contrast, for the millenium era there were alot more varieties in how Godzilla looked since there wasn't much in the way of continuity between the films.

I am agree with Mecha ROdan that the Mutos won´t be used for a while after this movie; but I think Toho ALREADY owns the copyrigths for the Mutos if they proceeded as in Godzilla Unleashed games.  Pipeworks wanted to include two brand new monsters on the rostor. The first was already developed by them and was called Krystalak, the second would be taken from a poll of four concept art  pics of different creatures, and the winner was Obsidious. If we read the legal info in the wii version of the game (the version including them both), it enlist every monster on game INCLUIDING Krystalak and Obsidious as property of Toho. I supposed the deal  was this with Toho representatives stating the following condition: "Yes, you can include the monsters you want, but they will be for US"

@MechaRodan

I will never stop calling him GINO. That's what I grew up calling him, that's the result of his genesis and there isn't a soul on this planet that will stop me otherwise. So you might as well put "Zilla" blinders on when I talk about GINO. (That and I utterly hate the Toho rebranding "Zilla". It's not a very good official name either.)

@GodzillaTheKing123

You bring up something that few rarely put on the table about suit designs and varying costumes. What design will work best for the story? You certainly wouldn't have the GMK design for Godzilla vs. Megalon, and you wouldn't exactly want the heavier, less mobile 90s suits for Godzilla Final Wars. I think crew members and design teams take into consideration what kind of suits and designs work for the movie their trying to create and that's something else to factor in to the whole mess: What will the story be and how will Godzilla's design fit into it?

Yes, precisely GMAN.

It would have been mighty weird (not to mention killing the mood/atomsphere of the movie) if we had the G suit from Godzilla vs Gigan in Godzilla vs Destroyah, for example.

The suit has to serve the purpose of the story. GMK, for instance, removed the pupils from G's eyes to make him look more fierce and scary, as Godzilla was very much the bad guy in that movie. Whereas in many of the Showa era films, Godzilla had large eyes to make him look a little bit cute as he was the good guy (or the lesser of two evils anyway) and gear more to kids.

DESTROYALLSWAG - I certainly hope the MUTO become a part of Toho's regularly displayed creatures. They're such a faacinating design! :)
